That being said, it’s time for me to suck it up and get on out there this evening. Organ-based trio Micromasse will be playing a free show at Frontier this evening as part of the venue’s Live in the Lounge music series. If you’re in the area tonight be sure to stop by and check out the melodic and mesmerizing sounds of musicians Chris Sweet, Max Cantlin and Pete Dugas as the three combine guitar, drums and organ to pump out some superior instrumental jams starting at 7:30pm.
Yo, fall doesn’t officially commence until the 22nd so we should savor the opportunities to take in some outdoor music while we still can. Start tonight out on the deck of the Portland Lobster Company on Commercial Street where local folk-rocker Eric Bettencourt and a couple of his talented pals will be doing their thing starting right around 6. Join Bettencourt and his buds for some good times overlooking the Atlantic at this free and fun gig.
Fat Knuckle Freddy is back at Blue tonight to celebrate the release of his new instrumental record Sweet Requiems On A Summer Night. Freddy is a local composer, instrumentalist and a songwriter who plays and writes American Primitive Music on cigar box, resonator, Weissenborn, acoustic, and fretless guitars. Check out this fun night of tunes featuring special guest appearances by such local artists as Samuel James, D. Gross and Frank Fotusky as things get started up right around 7pm.

A super fun and free show to take in tonight happens over at Flask Lounge as they host an Acoustic Punk Night featuring tunes from Pete of Rays Occult, Scott of Port City Saints, Jim and Kris of Spillers, Matt of Gant, Tim of Time Out Timmy and more. Minneapolis-based indie rapper Astronautalis makes a triumphant return to Portland this Wednesday as he and a few pals team up to throw one helluva party on stage at Port City Music Hall. Joining Astronautalis to round out tonight’s bill and pop off the party will be alternative hip-hop act OXYMORRONS and party blues band Adam and the Flood. Things get crankin’ right around 9 so don’t sleep on this midweek must-see.
Acoustic duo Stealing North, which features Neal Jandreau and Tom Doucette, will be playing all kinds of fun covers out on the Oasis patio tonight. Join these fellas from some midweek music as things get underway at 9.
Catch some great tunes happening over at Portland House of Music as The Maine Dead Project continues their summer residency on tonight. These talented musicians will be performing songs from the Grateful Dead and more as things get underway at 9pm.
Rap Night is back tonight with a phenomenal line-up of hip-hop heavies including Ock Cousteau, Lady Essence, Rapper Ashley and ill by instinct.
