So Monday was actually surprisingly less painful than I had anticipated and I hope it was the same for all you cats as well. Luckily it looks like Tuesday’s shaping up to be pretty decent too. I know it’s still fairly early in the week, but there’s always a party going on somewhere so get it together and get out there to see such shows as Jesus Cactus at Blue, Alex Roy at Champions, Haze & Dacey at Andy’s Old Port Pub, another open mic with Uke n’ Smile at Sea Dog Brewing Company and more.
Local pop-rock artist Alex Roy will be performing a set of original tunes and cover songs at Champions. Tonight’s event is free and sure to be a good time so swing through if you’re in the area as the music starts up at 9.
Local singer-songwriter Kate Schrock will be at Blue this evening with special guest and saxophonist Glen DaCosta. Schrock has shared the stage with artists such as Taj Mahal, Mick Taylor of the Rolling Stones, Wayne Kramer of MC5, The Bodeans, Stephen Stills, and more. Check out Schrock alongside original saxophonist for Bob Marley and the Wailers, Glen DaCosta, as things get underway at 6 tonight.
The Woodshed Mystics will be performing a free show up on the rooftop deck of Bayside Bowl as part of their Sunset Music on the Roof series. Beginning at 6 you can check out the band’s upbeat roots and acoustic tunes that span such genres as folk, soft rock and adult alternative. Anticipate lots of harmonies, a hint of reggae, some calypso and maybe even a bit of bluegrass during this fun, outdoor shindig.
The Porthole welcomes back Dan Merrill to the deck this evening for a set that’ll feature a variety of acoustic rock, pop and folk covers and originals. Tonight’s show is free and starts up at 6 o’clock.
The Still, which features local musician Ryan Halliburton and a few of his talented friends, will be playing live out on the deck of the Portland Lobster Company in downtown Portland this Tuesday evening. Starting at 6:30pm enjoy some great music out on the deck overlooking the beautiful Atlantic. Tonight’s show is absolutely free, so don’t miss out on some summer fun.
Virginia-based act Haze & Dacey bring some sweet sounds to the stage of Andy’s Old Port Pub tonight. The duo skips nimbly from folk-pop to alt-country to roots-rock, creating a homegrown organic sound with upright bass, acoustic guitar, piano, shaker, tambourine, and mouth-horn. Things get underway at this free and all-ages show starting at 7 o’clock.
Globe-trotting, Maine-bred drummer RJ Miller leads Jesus Cactus, an electronic, psych, and jazz-infused trio with Portland multi-instrumentalists Dave Noyes and Pat Corrigan, at Blue on Congress Street tonight. This Tuesday evening performance begins at 8pm.
Another open mic night specifically designed for DJs happens down at Flask Lounge on Spring Street in Portland this Tuesday. The event allows up-and-coming DJs and producers to take a chance and get up on the tables alongside local veterans. All you need to bring are records, CDs and a controller. All formats of music are welcome as the fun gets started at 9.
Roots rocker Travis James Humphrey returns to Gritty’s this evening for another free, solo set that’ll start up right around 9 o’clock.
Ben Kilcollins is back at Easy Day tonight for some sweet, acoustic sounds. You know Ben from his time spent fronting local pop-rock act, Kilcollins, but this evening he goes solo for some fun cover tunes and original songs starting right around 6 during this free and family-friendly event.
Local acoustic act Uke n’ Smile is back at Sea Dog Brewing Company in South Portland for another free, all-ages open mic event. All genres of music, musicians of varying skills, capabilities, and ages are welcome to join in on the fun as the music starts at 8pm.
Aside from here on this blog, she can be found around town taking in local shows, performing with any variety of musical acts (basically anyone who will give her a microphone and a tambourine), and talking up local music on WCSH 6 on Friday mornings around 6:20am. She is also the Promotions Director for WFNK, WTHT and WHXR in Portland as well as an On Air Personality at 107.5 Frank FM.
