Built To Last returns to Portland House of Music and Events tonight

Slam some gummy vitamins, eat your Wheaties, do some stretches, and remember to hydrate because tonight marks the beginning of the end…of 2016, silly. Lots and lots of fun to be had this week, so let’s see what’s in store for this Wednesday, shall we? Don’t miss such shindigs as String Tide at Frontier, Double Entendre at TJ’s Pizzeria, Sammy Adams & Huey Mack at the State Theatre, Tim Mercer & Ben Kilcollins at Flask Lounge, Pete Witham at The Frog and Turtle and more!


Check out a free show down at Champions tonight as roots rocker Travis James Humphrey plays a free show starting up at 10pm.


Local act String Tide brings their fusion of traditional American folk music and popular tunes with a bluegrass flair to Frontier tonight for another installment of the venue’s Live in the Lounge music series. String Tide’s sound features versatile vocal harmonies, smoking fiddle and mandolin leads, and clawhammer banjo. Their repertoire also includes fiddle tunes and originals with covers by the Beatles, Gillian Welch, John Prine, Wilco, and more. Check them out as things get underway at 7:30 tonight.


Acoustic Americana act Double Entendre will be serving up some great tunes this Wednesday over at TJ’s Pizzeria in North Monmouth. Join in on the musical revelry as things get underway at 5:30pm during this free and all-ages show.


The Working Dead are back to bring the good vibes to Portland House of Music and Events this evening. This trio of talented, local musicians will be serving up some Happy Hour, Grateful Dead jams during a free show that starts at 5pm.

Three talented singer-songwriters from right here in Portland will be teaming up once again for another evening of songs and stories over at Blue. Starting at 6 check out another In The Round Event featuring Max Garcia Conover, Griffin Sherry and Max Davis as they come together on stage to share their own original roots, Americana, and folk compositions.

David Beam & Friends will be serving up some down home, acoustic roots tunes to wind down your Wednesday with over at Andy’s Old Port Pub. The local act will get things rolling along right around 7 o’clock.

Blue welcomes back the Kelly Laurence Quartet for another Tuesday evening of jazz tunes. This show gets underway at 8 o’clock.

Local folk musician Dave Rowe will be playing another free show over at Bull Feeney’s in the Old Port tonight. Join Rowe for some good times and good tunes as things start up right around 8 o’clock.

Boston-based rapper Sammy Adams brings his mix of pop hooks and suburban party rap to the stage of the State Theatre tonight. This all ages show gets shakin’ right around 8 with an opening set by West Virginia-bred rapper Huey Mack.

There’s more in the way of Grateful Dead jams tonight as Portland House of Music and Events welcomes back Built To Last, a Grateful Dead experience featuring members of The Working Dead, Maine Dead Project, and Smoked Salmon. The band promises to bring some good tunes and good vibes to the stage as things get underway right around 9 o’clock.

The first of two fundraisers to raise some money for all-around nice dude Brandon York, who is experiencing some tough times, will happen tonight at Flask Lounge with local rock and rollers Tim Mercer and Ben Kilcollins providing some tunes. Things get underway at 9 so be sure to make some plans to swing by and show some support.

Local folk-pop act the Dapper Gents Duo return to RiRa for their regular Wednesday night gig. Join these fun fellas as this free show starts at 9 o’clock.


Pete Witham returns to The Frog and Turtle for some Americana and rockabilly music this Wednesday. Pete will be joined by a rotating cast of characters as they bring the good times and good tunes to the stage for this free show, which starts up at 7:30pm.


Up and coming singer-songwriter Lena Rich will be performing at Gather in Yarmouth this evening. Join Lena for some acoustic, dinnertime tunes as this free and all ages gathering begins at 6:30pm.

Holly “The Nunz” Nunan is a musician from Portland, Maine with an unabashed love for the city as well as its thriving Maine music scene. This is her scene report.

Aside from here on this blog, she can be found around town taking in local shows, performing with any variety of musical acts (basically anyone who will give her a microphone and a tambourine), and talking up local music on WCSH 6 on Friday mornings around 6:20am. She is also the Promotions Director for WFNK, WTHT and WHXR in Portland as well as an On Air Personality at 107.5 Frank FM.
