It seems appropriate to preface today’s post with a WOWEEE! Perhaps I sound like a broken record, but there is so much freakin’ cool stuff going on musically tonight that it’s even a bit overwhelming for a gal about town such as myself! But have no fear; I have taken the time to put everything into order for you so that you can properly decide where and when you’ll bust out some epic Party-Pants-dance-moves this evening. Let’s give tonight a good old look-see, yuh? Yuh. Check out such shindigs as Pete Witham at Easy Day, Stesha Cano in Pickering Square, The Crown Vics at Bar Harbor Beer Works, The Cormack McCarthy Band in Winslow Park, American Ride at The Brunswick, Royal Hammer at Fort Allen Park, Little River Band with Xander Nelson at Aura, G.Love & Special Sauce with The Hackensaw Boys at Port City Music Hall, Muddy Ruckus at Robinhood Free Meetinghouse and so much more!


Peter Finkle will be playing an acoustic set at Gritty’s Auburn location this Thirsty Thursday. Join in on the musical revelry as this free show starts up at 8.


Stesha Cano and her talented band mates will be performing at Pickering Square this evening as part of the Cool Sounds summer concert series. Beginning at 6pm you can check out this free and family-friendly show that’ll feature Stesha’s original blues and jazz jams.


The Crown Vics prepare to throw down with a non-stop rockabilly dance party at Bar Harbor Beer Works this evening. If you’re looking to bust a move, have some fun, and enjoy some local brews then check out this free show as things get underway at 6pm.


Acoustic act Uke n’ Smile will be hosting another open mic event over at The Local Buzz. All musicians of varying skills and genres are welcome to get up on the microphone and perform as things get underway right around 7:30pm.


The Cormack McCarthy Band will be performing at Winslow Park as part of the Summer Concert Series. Led by an amazing singer songwriter combining an acoustic mix of folk, country, blues and Americana, tonight’s all-ages show should be a good time so be sure to check it out as things get started right around 6:30pm.


Maine locals, Muddy Ruckus will be providing an evening of fiery, foot-stomping blues-folk for you to enjoy at the Robinhood Free Meetinghouse in Georgetown. Things get underway right around 7:30pm.


The Scolded Dogs will be bringing the party to The Liberal Cup tonight. These fellas will be making some noise playing some original tunes as well as covers of Johnny Cash, Parliament, Snoop Dogg and more as things get swinging at 8.


Portland trio, Bread & Circus will be bringing some soul and blues classics to Alisson’s Restaurant in Kennebunkport tonight. Join these three talented musical merrymakers as things get underway at 9:30.


Local musician Ron Bergeron will be playing another free show at the Rails in Lewiston tonight. Ron will be getting things kicked into gear right around 7 o’clock with tons great covers from The Beatles, Stones, Queen, Elvis, The Boss, Tom Petty, Paul Simon and many more.


Pop-rock and roller Alex Roy will be performing a set of original tunes and cover songs at Jimmy The Greek’s this Thirsty Thursday. Tonight’s event is free and sure to be a good time so swing through if you’re in the area as the music starts up at 7.

American Ride will be busting out a bunch of modern country covers for you to boogie down to this evening as they play a free show at The Brunswick beginning at 8pm.

Local party band The GE3ks are bringing some of the best 80’s pop, dance, New Wave, hard rock, rap and one hit wonder tunes to The Pier Patio Pub tonight. Shake your groove thing out on the dance floor as this free show gets swinging at 9.


Local four-piece rock n’ roll band, Riot Act, goes quiet tonight for another acoustic set at The Porthole. Tonight’s free show gets started right around 6.

Party out on the deck of Portland Lobster Company this evening with Massachusetts-based band Freevolt. Freevolt will be bringing some roots rock, Americana, reggae, funk and pop sounds to your Thursday as this free and all-ages shindig gets swinging at 6:30pm.

Don’t miss some free reggae music on the Eastern Prom tonight as local reggae act Royal Hammer will be bringing some joyous sounds to your Thursday with an a free and all-ages performance at the Fort Allen Park bandstand. Things get started up right around 6:30pm.

Maine musician Justin Walton will be playing some acoustic tunes during a free show at Andy’s Old Port Pub this evening. Enjoy some great music, local brews, and delicious pub fare as things get underway at 7.

Blue welcomes the Hattie Simon Quartet for an acoustic jazz set this evening. Jazz singer and pianist Hattie Simon and her trio perform standards from the Great American Songbook, contemporary jazz and music of alternative artists like Regina Spektor, Ben Folds and Norah Jones beginning at 7.

Aura in Portland presents Little River Band tonight. One of Australia’s prominent musical exports of the 1970s, Little River Band shot to fame on the strength of their glowing harmonies and mellow country-pop sound. Tonight’s show starts at 8pm with an opening set by Portland rock n’ roller, Xander Nelson, and his band.

Philadelphia singer-songwriter and crew, G.Love & Special Sauce, are back in Portland tonight with their seamless blend of old-school blues and jazz fused with a bit of modern-alternative-hip-hop. They’ll be bringing the party to Port City Music Hall tonight for an 18+ show that starts up at 8 with an opening set by The Hackensaw Boys, a Virginia-based acoustic band that fuses the sound of bluegrass and folk with a bit of rock and roll.

The Portland Jazz Orchestra returns to One Longfellow Square tonight. This 18-piece jazz ensemble performs a variety of traditional and contemporary big band literature. The PJO plays works written by members such as Craig Skeffington, Willie Johnson, Chris Humphrey and Terry White in addition to literature composed by a variety of jazz artists including Tom Kubis, Matt Harris, Bob Mintzer, Bill Holman and Maria Schneider. Music starts up at 8pm.

Local cover act The Depths will be bringing the party to the Oasis patio this evening. The band will be playing all kinds of songs from all kinds of genres during this free show, which starts up at 9.

Tonight Blue on Congress Street welcomes local act Zapion as they present some classic belly dance music from the Turkish, Arab and Armenian traditions. Tonight Zapion will be joined by Nasreen, a dancer from New England’s thriving belly dance community, as things get underway at 9pm.

Lots of good tunes and good vibes happening at a party upstairs at Empire tonight. This evening North Carolina-based band Of Good Nature brings their rich blend of musical styles, which include bits of rock, reggae, progressive, funk and rock and roll, to the stage alongside Providence alternative reggae act, Oogee Wawa and the soul, funk, rock, Afrobeat, Latin, and hip-hop influenced songs of Portland’s own Akela Moon for a party that’ll get swinging right around 9 o’clock.

Check out some fun pop-rock tunes courtesy of local act The Grumps as they play a free show on the Amigos patio tonight. These talented fellas will get the good times rollin’ right around 9:30.

Ben Kilcollins & The Vargas Twins will be hanging out at RiRa this evening for another fun-filled show. You know Ben from his time spent pop-rockin’ as the frontman of the band Kilcollins, but tonight he teams up with the talented Vargas Twins for some cover tunes and originals starting right around 9.

Mellow your mind with some stellar jams at Gritty’s during another fun night with the one and only A Band Beyond Description. Far more than just your typical Grateful Dead cover band, these fellas jam out on everything from Phish, the Allman Brothers, The Band and more. Anticipate good times, good tunes and good people starting right around 9.


Pete Witham returns to Easy Day in South Portland for some fun Americana and rockabilly music this Thursday. Pete will be joined by a rotating cast of characters as they bring the good times and good tunes to the stage for this free show, which will start at 6pm.


Award-winning folk artist Anni Clark returns to Lenny’s at Hawkes Plaza this Thursday evening. Clark will be bringing her acoustic 12-string up to the stage for some original tunes starting at 7.


Holly Nunan

Holly “The Nunz” Nunan is a musician from Portland, Maine with an unabashed love for the city as well as its thriving Maine music scene. This is her scene report.

Aside from here on this blog, she can be found around town taking in local shows, performing with any variety of musical acts (basically anyone who will give her a microphone and a tambourine), and talking up local music on WCSH 6 on Friday mornings around 6:20am. She is also the Promotions Director for WFNK, WTHT and WHXR in Portland as well as an On Air Personality at 107.5 Frank FM.
