What up, Wednesday? You’ve really gotta bring it tonight because even though we’re half way through the week, I still feel like I’m not gonna make it to Friday. Thankfully it does look like you’re packing some heat, so I’ll give it my best shot tonight and take in some tuneage. It’s time to hurdle the hump so let’s do this thing, shall we? Check out fun shows such as LQH at Frontier, an open mic with Rippleton Cross at Cole Farms, Caroline Cotter and The Swing Set at Congress Square Park, The Maine Dead Project at Portland House of Music and Events, Never Been To Tennessee at Lenny’s at Hawkes Plaza, and more!


Take in some roots rock tunes during a free show at Champions tonight. Starting at 9 local musician Travis James Humphrey will be playing a solo set of songs.


Jazz up your midweek with LQH as the return to Frontier as part of the venue’s Live in the Lounge music series tonight. The immensely talented cats of LQH (Chas Lester, Tyler Quist, and Evan Haines) will be bringing their melting pot of sound — everything from soul, jazz, funk, and rock — to life during this free show that’ll get underway at 7:30.


Folk-rock duo Rippleton Cross will be back at Cole Farms this Wednesday to host another free open mic event. The pair will be performing some songs as well as encouraging other musicians to get up on the mic and have some fun. This all-ages gathering will get underway at 7pm.


Congress Square Park welcomes Caroline Cotter and The Swing Set to the stage for a fun, free, family-friendly, outdoor performance this evening. Caroline is an award-winning songwriter with a captivating soprano voice who’ll be joined by members of Portland’s own bluegrass band, Tricky Britches, to form the Swing Set. The act will serve up some enjoyable classical jazz and swing tunes at this event, which gets swinging (see what I did there?) right around 5:30 this evening.

Local rock band OC and the Offbeats bring their new brand of blues and soul to a super fun and super free outdoor show at Portland Lobster Company this Wednesday evening. Join this band of musical merrymakers for a night of awesome tunes and guaranteed dancing as things start up right at 6:30pm.

Local indie pop singer-songwriter Lucas Roy will be live at Andy’s Old Port Pub this Monday evening. Roy draws his influences from such artists as John Mayer, Ed Sheeran, Jason Mraz, and James Bay. This free, all-ages show will start at 7pm

A free and fun show filled with indie rock and roll takes over Flask Lounge tonight. Beginning at 8pm you can check out performances by Laurie Jones, Tim Mercer, Ben Kilcollins, Moves, Annie & The Guns, Peter Risano, and Kyle Christenson.

Blue’s Irish Night rolls on this Wednesday with a featured performance by Banjo Read. Banjo Read sings and plays the 5-string banjo and guitar with tunes that range from yearning waltzes to gut-wrenching barn-burners. Check things out as the music starts up at 8 o’clock.

Local folk musician Dave Rowe will be playing another free show over at Bull Feeney’s in the Old Port tonight. Join Rowe for some good times and good tunes as things start up right around 8 o’clock.

Mellow your mind with some midweek tuneage over at Portland House of Music and Events as The Maine Dead Project continues their summer residency tonight. These talented musicians will be performing songs from the Grateful Dead and other beloved jam bands as things get underway at 9pm.

Local folk-pop act the Dapper Gents Duo return to the stage of RiRa tonight for their regular Wednesday night gig. Join these fellas for some musical revelry as this free show starts up around 9pm.

Crooners & Cocktails welcomes back local duo Hello Clarice as these pair of talented fellas bring some fun tunes to your Wednesday. Hello Clarice features the vocal stylings of Clarence “Jim” Roberts of Hello Newman and the musical mastery of pianist Mike Maurice as they play everything from Frank Sinatra to Billy Ocean. The pair prepares to perform beginning at 9:30pm.


If you’re looking to check out some open mic action this evening make plans to head out to BeBe’s Burritos and Cantina in Saco as they host another free an all ages gathering. This musical event features a full PA system for musicians to use as well as the opportunity for musicians to establish future gigs at the venue. There will be great food and drink available while you participate in an open mic that always features a welcoming audience in a fun atmosphere. This evening’s open mic starts up at 6:30pm.


 Local country act Never Been To Tennessee will be singing some songs at Lenny’s at Hawkes Plaza tonight. Starting at 7 Scott Girouard and Kevin Ward will be serving up classic country covers from such artists as Willie Nelson, Johnny Cash, Hank Williams and a whole lot more during this free, all ages show.

Pete Witham returns to The Frog and Turtle for some more fun Americana and rockabilly music this Wednesday. Pete will be joined by a rotating cast of characters as they bring the good times and tunes to the stage during this free show, that’ll start up at 7:30pm.

Holly “The Nunz” Nunan is a musician from Portland, Maine with an unabashed love for the city as well as its thriving Maine music scene. This is her scene report.

Aside from here on this blog, she can be found around town taking in local shows, performing with any variety of musical acts (basically anyone who will give her a microphone and a tambourine), and talking up local music on WCSH 6 on Friday mornings around 6:20am. She is also the Promotions Director for WFNK, WTHT and WHXR in Portland as well as an On Air Personality at 107.5 Frank FM.
