Rippin’ rock n’ roll band Riot Act will be supplying some party tunes for your finally Friday with a show at the Penobscot Pour House. Things will get crankin’ right around 9 o’clock.

Maine based singer-songwriter Jordan Kaulback will be guitar slingin’, piano playin’ and soulfully singin’ at Paddy Murphy’s in Bangor tonight. Things get underway at 9:30pm during this free show.


Soulful roots-rock act, Chris Ross and The North will be celebrating the release of their new record, Over Lonesome with a show at the Criterion Theatre in Bar Harbor this evening. This talented troupe of Maine-bred fellas is a must-see for fans of Zac Brown Band, John Hiatt, Jason Isbell and other such imaginative storytellers. Tonight they’re joined by Portland electro-pop-rock outfit, Armies for an all-ages show that’ll start at 8pm.


FinestKind Country Band will be serving up some traditional country music, some Texas influenced sound, and some country blues tunes during a free and fun Friday night show at Dirigo Brewing Company. Kick up your heels and get your boot-scootin’-boogie on beginning at 7:30pm.

Elements welcomes OldHat this Friday evening for a set of acoustic folk, bluegrass, and old-time tunes. OldHat features Whitney Kent on vocals and guitar and Steve Roy also on vocals, mandolin, and fiddle. There’s no cover for this all-ages event which will begin at 8 o’clock.


Check out a fun night of funk jams at Mine Oyster in Boothbay Harbor as Andrew Bailie & Company take to the stage for a free show that’ll start up around 9.


Local folk troubadour Putnam Smith will be making some music alongside fellow acoustic folk artist Ashley Storrow tonight as the pair bring some pleasant sounds to the stage of Frontier tonight. This evening’s event gets underway at 8pm.


Central Maine band Skosh brings their badass blend of funk, rock and ska up to The Buck-It Grill & Pub in Buckfield tonight for a party that’s guaranteed to please. Join the fellas for this free show that’ll get cranking right around 8 o’clock.

The Maine Beer Cafe will be hosting a benefit for Jay and Casey Durgin, Kittery residents who recently lost their home to fire. There will be a silent auction and also a portion of the Maine Beer Cafe’s proceeds for the day will go to the family. Both The Bog Standard and Maine Man will be performing as well. The Bog goes on at 5pm. At the conclusion of their set the Best Brew Tours van will be shuffling up the road to Woodland Farms for anyone that would like a private tour of the brewery during intermission. The bust will get back in time for Maine Man‘s performance, which begins at 7:30pm. Do good and have fun all at once today over at the Maine Beer Cafe in Kittery.


Local artist Phil Fortier will be filling Apple Valley Golf Course in Lewiston will some acoustic sounds during a free and all-ages performance that’ll get underway at 7pm.

Pedro O’Hara’s welcomes Michael Krapovicky and Eric Bauer for a night of acoustic pop-rock originals and covers. The good times will get rollin’ along at 8 during this free and all-ages set.


Cover act Stolen Mojo will be playing some pop, rock, Motown, R&B, funk, disco and country jams from the last five decades at The Brunswick tonight. Join in on the dance party as this free show gets underway at 8:30pm.

Radio Revival returns to The Pier tonight with tons of songs for you to groove to including covers of Queen, Billy Squier, Bowie, Tom Petty, Talking Heads, Led Zeppelin, The Strokes, Thin Lizzy, Weezer and more. This free show gets rockin’ and rollin’ at 9pm.


Boston-based Beatles tribute band, Studio Two, will be taking you back to the early 60’s, a time when The Fab Four were truly taking the world by storm, as these talented lads return to the outside stage of The Porthole for a free show. Local bluegrass duo Darlin’ Corey returns to the stage of Blue this First Friday. Beginning at 6pm you can stop in and check out the pair’s delightful blend of vocal harmonies, fiddle, banjo, mandolin, and guitars that are used to make up some truly unique bluegrass, old timey and folk sounds. This show is all ages and guaranteed to be a highlight of your weekend so head on down to Blue to check it out.

Bud Java brings some reggae to Andy’s Old Port Pub tonight. This free and fun show will start up at 7pm.

The Highwaymen, the “Mount Rushmore of Country Music,” were a country supergroup almost too grand to be believable. Johnny Cash, Willie Nelson, Waylon Jennings and Kris Kristofferson—any one of these names could make a true country fan swoon, and seeing all of them on stage at once was a truly powerful experience. One Longfellow Square is throwing their our own celebration of this beloved group of musicians: for one night only, join them for a musical hootenanny that will be as much a party as a performance. Travis James Humphrey, will lead the evening acting as emcee and house band with his bandmates. Talented musicians from all around Maine will be joining them on stage to bring the music of the Highwaymen to life, including: Emilia Dahlin, Cumberland Crossing, Neil Collins, Kate Beever, Jeff Beam, and Kristel Hayes. This must-see event will begin at 8 tonight.

It is First Friday here in Portland so if you are Art Walking don’t miss your opportunity to take in tonight’s show from Okbari over at Blue on Congress Street. Starting at 8 the act will be performing music from the Middle East and Turkey on such unique and beautiful instruments as oud (fretless Middle Eastern lute), qanun (72-stringed Middle Eastern micro-tonal zither), nay (ancient Middle Eastern reed flute), and Middle Eastern percussion.

Portland pop-rock veteran Spencer Albee celebrates the release of his newest record ‘Relentlessly Yours’ with a party at Port City Music Hall. Backed by a band that features many talented members of the Maine music scene, this evening’s performance will highlight Spencer’s new songs and sounds as well as show off work from his previous musical endeavors that have spanned the course of two decades. Also not to be missed is the dreamy alt-folk-rock of Starcrossed Losers, who’ll open tonight’s show, while DJ mosart212 will spin tunes before, between, and after each of the bands’ sets. Hessian also returns to the stage with a new line-up and all new material and newcomer sleaze-rockers, Facepaint will show you the future of gettin’ wild. It’s First Friday in Portland which means it’s time to bust a move down at Flask Lounge during DJ Jamie O’Sullivan’s monthly LOVE dance party. This month’s installment of LOVE features some of the best house, techno and disco music around. Properly shake your can at tonight’s free shindig as things get grooving right around 9.

Another First Friday at Blue means that local act The Evan King Group will be laying down some smooth jazz and funky soul. Grab some friends, a beverage and get ready to have some fun as things get started around 10.

Cover band Sweep The Leg brings the party back to the stage of RiRa tonight. Starting at 10 get ready to bust a move to some super fun rock, blues, ska and funk jams.


Local pop-rock cover act The Nikki Hunt Band will be bringing the party to Mixers tonight. Covering artists such as Sheryl Crow, Joan Jett, Bruce Springsteen, Sublime, No Doubt, The Doors, U2 and many more there’s guaranteed to be something for everyone. Tonight’s performance will also include a colorful hula hoop act so be sure to check it out starting at 8:30pm.


Check out acoustic tunes from local singer-songwriter Bill Howard as he performs at The Kerrymen Pub this evening. Bill will be playing some songs during this free show which gets started up at 6.

Tonight the Waterville Opera House welcomes Jazz is Phish, a collective of musicians that come together to re-imagine Phish in an instrumental, jazz fusion setting. This evening’s performance will begin at 8 o’clock.

Holly “The Nunz” Nunan is a musician from Portland, Maine with an unabashed love for the city as well as its thriving Maine music scene. This is her scene report.

Aside from here on this blog, she can be found around town taking in local shows, performing with any variety of musical acts (basically anyone who will give her a microphone and a tambourine), and talking up local music on WCSH 6 on Friday mornings around 6:20am. She is also the Promotions Director for WFNK, WTHT and WHXR in Portland as well as an On Air Personality at 107.5 Frank FM.
