Lucie & The Undercover Band will be bringing some classic rock covers to Hollywood Casino in Bangor tonight for a free 21+ show that starts up at 8pm.

Catch some classic and modern rock covers from the Jim Brown Band as the band kicks off their two-night stint at the Penobscot Pour House right around 8 o’clock.


Alternative, old-time acoustic folk band Northwood are back at Elements for a night of foot-stomping music that will begin at 8pm.

Local pop-rock cover act The Nikki Hunt Band will be bringing the party to the Easy Street Lounge tonight. Rochester act Dancing Madly Backwards will be playing a show in Portland tonight as they bring their energetic southern blues and country tunes to Andy’s Old Port Pub. Tonight’s free all ages shindig gets swinging right around 7 o’clock.

Local electro-pop act Armies are bringing their duet style anthems that harken back to the French pop tunes of the sixties will to Portland House of Music and Events tonight. Also on this evening’s bill is one of my all-time favorite dudes, Zach Jones, who’s back from LA for a hot minute this summer. Tonight Zach and his band comprised of some of Portland’s finest musicians will take to the stage to bring his sweet, sweet songs to life. Imagine one of your favorite Motown singers fronting all of your favorite 60s pop acts such as The Beach Boys, The Zombies, The Kinks, and The Beatles, and there you’ll find Mr. Zach Jones. Lovely and exceptionally talented local songstress Katherine Matzell Frederick and her band will begin the evening as the music starts right around 8pm.

I need a solid rock and roll reset after a crazy, busy week of working and therefore I am pumped to get my face melted by Northern California pioneers of stoner rock and doom metal, Sleep, as they play their only New England date tonight at the State Theatre. Doom-tinged metal band Windhand will kick off this all ages show starting at 8 o’clock.

I feel like I’ll be doing a lot of running around tonight as there’s another epic show up the street from Sleep happening over at SPACE Gallery on Congress Street. Portland piano-man Jimmy Dority has reassembled his 21-piece orchestra known as Jimmy Do Right & The Pop Go Boom to perform songs from their long-anticipated self-titled debut albuml. The songs themselves recall the ”wall-of-sound” recordings of 60’s giants such as Phil Spector, Brian Wilson, and Serge Gainsbourg, with orchestrations that are reminiscent of  Motown-inspired R&B and French chanson. Opening the night will be Woodpainting who bring their ‘infectious pop drama’ and ‘narrative-based bubblegum soap-opera’ sounds to the stage starting at 8:30.

Salvage BBQ on Congress Street welcomes back local act the Jerks of Grass for another fun Friday of toe-tapping bluegrass tunes. This free and all ages shindig will get shaking at 8:30pm.

Central Maine band Skosh brings their badass blend of funk, rock and ska up to the Oasis patio tonight for a party that’s guaranteed to please. Join the fellas for this free show that’ll get cranking right around 9 o’clock.

Steve Jones & The All Night Rascals return to bring some dub-style reggae-rock to Brian Boru tonight. Get down to some seriously raging tunes as this free 21+ party gets crankin’ at 9:30pm.

If you’re looking to get down to some awesome alternative hip-hop tonight then head out to the Amigos patio where Crimewave will be throwing down some Friday night thunder starting at 9:30.

Blue welcomes back local funk quintet Canned Bread for some innovative sounds that blend elements of jazz, reggae, hip hop, and soul music together. Music starts at 10 o’clock.

RiRa is geared up for an eventful Friday featuring dance-pop cover act Tickle. Things get shaking at 10pm with a super party mix of some of the best music from today as well as some classic retro funk that’s guaranteed to get you out on the dance floor.

More in the way of face-melting doom, metal and stoner rock revelry will be happening at Geno’s as a Sleep After Party featuring the thunderous sounds of Churchburn and Clan of Dyad (which features members of Sylvia and Eastern Spell) starts up at 10.

Holly “The Nunz” Nunan is a musician from Portland, Maine with an unabashed love for the city as well as its thriving Maine music scene. This is her scene report.

Aside from here on this blog, she can be found around town taking in local shows, performing with any variety of musical acts (basically anyone who will give her a microphone and a tambourine), and talking up local music on WCSH 6 on Friday mornings around 6:20am.
