This week has been dragging on for what seems like an eternity so therefore I am super ready to throw all caution to the wind and kick start the freakin’ weekend. Acoustic act Uke n’ Smile is back at the Local Buzz for another free and all ages open mic event. All artists of different genres, musical capabilities and ages are welcome to join in on the creative fun as things get started up at 7:30pm tonight.


Local alt-country rock and roll act, The Mallett Brothers Band is geared up for a show at The Rack tonight. Boot stompin’, whiskey drinkin’, and guitar slingin’ will get started up on stage right around 8 tonight.


Local act the Scolded Dogs return to the Liberal Cup tonight with some tried and true party-rockin’ tunes. Beginning at 7 you can expect to hear some awesome originals as well as covers of such acts as Johnny Cash, Parliament, Snoop Dogg and many, many more.

Get yourself over to the Easy Street Lounge in Hallowell tonight for an evening of fun acoustic jams as Sa Rah’s Serenades continue. Let this lovely local songstress sing you some sweet songs as things get started up at this free show right around 9 o’clock.


Don Hebert of The Veggies goes solo for a show at Rails in Lewiston tonight. Don will be bringing a show chock full of fun and danceable cover tunes to the stage as this free all ages shindig gets swinging at 5.


Toby McAllister of local pop-rock band Sparks The Rescue goes solo tonight for an acoustic performance at Matterhorn Ski Bar in Newry tonight. Beginning at 5 o’clock Toby will be performing some of his favorite STR originals as well as some covers of popular tunes from the past 20 plus years.


The Kevin Midgley Players return to Andy’s Old Port Pub tonight. These local musicians will be performing some Americana and Delta blues tunes as this free and all ages show starts up at 7 o’clock.

Blue welcomes talented pop-rock musician Ryan Halliburton to the stage tonight. Ryan will be performing many of his own original songs as well as a handful of cover tunes as things begin right around 7 o’clock this evening.

Indie roots rockers, Bronze Radio Return take the stage of Port City Music Hall to bring their lush harmonies and soulful vocals mixed with blues and modern guitar tones to life as they kick off their tour tonight in Portland. Opening the will be Boston indie alt-rock act Air Traffic Controller who’ll get things crankin’ right around 8 o’clock.

Dover, NH party royalty, Rick Rude, brings his bygone-jangle tunes to Oxbow tonight to celebrate the release of his new LP, Sophomore Lounge. Rounding out tonight’s bill are Diva Cup, Kiss Concert, and Family Planning. Music, and smiles, get cranked to 11 beginning at 8 o’clock.

PEI indie rock outfit Paper Lions returns to Maine for a performance at Portland House of Music and Events this evening. Music starts at 9 with an opening set from local singer-songwriter Max Ater.

The super fun fellas in local act Kilcollins will be doing it to it over at RiRa on Commercial Street this Thirsty Thursday. Starting at 9, the boys will be rockin’ you with all sorts of tunes that you know and love alongside a handful of catchy original jams for good measure. It’s free, fun and I would say guaranteed to be a good time, so check it out if you’re downtown this evening.

Blue welcomes back Portland-based contemporary bluegrass band Cumberland Crossing for an evening of bustling bluegrass music. Tonight’s free show gets kickin’ around 9.

Jam out this Thirsty Thursday with A Band Beyond Description at Gritty’s in the Old Port tonight. Get your free Grateful Dead freak out on starting at 9pm.

Local pop-rock cover act The Nikki Hunt Band will be bringing the party to Brian Boru tonight. Covering artists such as Sheryl Crow, Joan Jett, Bruce Springsteen, Sublime, No Doubt, The Doors, U2 and many more there’s guaranteed to be something for everyone. Tonight’s performance will also include a colorful hula hoop act so be sure to check it out starting at 9:30pm.

Satisfaction/The International Rolling Stones Show brings their highly acclaimed production with authentic cast and costuming to the Empire tonight as they bring the Stones’ hits from the last 50 years to life starting right around 9:30.


Award-winning folk artist Anni Clark will be playing some songs tonight at Lenny’s at Hawkes Plaza. Clark will be bringing her acoustic 12-string up to the stage for some original tunes starting at 7. If you’re up in the area, be sure to stop by and check it out.

Holly Nunan

Holly “The Nunz” Nunan is a musician from Portland, Maine with an unabashed love for the city as well as its thriving Maine music scene. This is her scene report.

Aside from here on this blog, she can be found around town taking in local shows, performing with any variety of musical acts (basically anyone who will give her a microphone and a tambourine), and talking up local music on WCSH 6 on Friday mornings around 6:20am. She is also the Promotions Director for WFNK, WTHT and WHXR in Portland as well as an On Air Personality at 107.5 Frank FM.
