Uke n’ Smile returns to the Local Buzz this evening for another open mic.  All musicians of different skills and genres are welcome as this free, creative gathering gets underway at 7:30.


Pop-rock and roller Alex Roy will be performing a set of original tunes and cover songs at Bueno Loco in Falmouth. Tonight’s event is free and sure to be fun so swing through if you’re in the area this Thursday as the music starts up at 6 o’clock.


The Depot in Gardiner welcomes Ron Bergeron for a night of acoustic tunes. Ron will be serving up tons of great songs starting at 8 including covers of The Beatles, Stones, Queen, Elvis, The Boss, Tom Petty, Paul Simon and maybe even a little Lady Gaga. The Kevin Midgley Players are back at Andy’s Old Port Pub tonight. These local musicians will be performing some Americana and Delta blues tunes as this free and all ages show starts up at 7 o’clock.

Multi-instrumentalist-vocalist Larry Campbell and singer-guitarist Teresa Williams bring their  infectious blend of Americana style and timeless soul music to the stage of One Longfellow Square tonight. A shortlist of artists who’ve benefited from the pair’s talents, live and in studio, reads like a Who’s Who of Music Icons: Bob Dylan (Larry spent eight years on the Never Ending Tour), Paul Simon, Little Feat, Hot Tuna, Phil Lesh, Emmylou Harris, Sheryl Crow, Mavis Staples, and, for one miraculous seven-year stretch, Levon Helm. Tonight’s performance begins at 8 o’clock.

The dudes in Kilcollins will be doing it to it over at RiRa tonight. Starting at 9, the fellas of Kilcollins plan on rockin’ you with all sorts of tunes that you know in love mixed in with a handful of catchy original jams for good measure. Vermont-made folk-Americana act The DuPont Brothers return to fill Blue with all kinds of lovely sounds as they perform another Thursday night show starting up at 9 o’clock.

Mellow your mind with some stellar jams at Gritty’s during another fun night with the one and only A Band Beyond Description. Far more than just your typical Grateful Dead cover band, these fellas jam out on everything from Phish, the Allman Brothers, The Band and more. Anticipate good times, good tunes and good people starting right around 9.

BoomBox brings an electronic blend of soulful rock and blues based dance music that incorporates backbeat, psychedelic and funky house sounds to the stage of Port City Music Hall tonight for a dance party chock full of dirty disco blues. This 18+ party gets swinging right around 9 o’clock.

Tonight at Empire members of Contrapposto, Streetweeper, Sunset Hearts, Leveret, Crystal Canyon, and Superorder pay tribute to the Cocteau Twins, one of the most distinctive bands of the ’80s, with a much imitated sound of blissful vocals and swooning, ethereal atmospherics. Join a slew of talented Portland musicians for an evening of romance and mystery as they pay homage to the eighteen-year career of the ethereal Cocteau Twins, performing songs that inspired the 80’s and 90’s eras of shoegaze, goth rock, dream pop, and industrial music, beginning right around 9:30pm.

Local pop-rock cover act The Nikki Hunt Band will be bringing the party to Brian Boru tonight. Covering artists such as Sheryl Crow, Joan Jett, Bruce Springsteen, Sublime, No Doubt, The Doors, U2 and many more there’s guaranteed to be something for everyone. Tonight’s performance will also include a colorful hula hoop act so be sure to check it out starting at 9:30pm.


Award-winning folk artist Anni Clark returns to Lenny’s at Hawkes Plaza this Thursday evening. Clark will be bringing her acoustic 12-string up to the stage for some original tunes starting at 7.

Holly “The Nunz” Nunan is a musician from Portland, Maine with an unabashed love for the city as well as its thriving Maine music scene. This is her scene report.

Aside from here on this blog, she can be found around town taking in local shows, performing with any variety of musical acts (basically anyone who will give her a microphone and a tambourine), and talking up local music on WCSH 6 on Friday mornings around 6:20am. She is also the Promotions Director for WFNK, WTHT and WHXR in Portland as well as an On Air Personality at 107.5 Frank FM.
