Here we go! It’s another Monday after a beautiful summer weekend, and even though I slightly look like a rock lobster (hello, glowing orb in the sky, nice to have you meet my translucent skin once again) I am absolutely ready to show this Monday what’s up! If you are too, here are some places to strut your stuff including Gina & The Red Eye Flight Crew at Portland House of Music and Events, The Oshima Brothers at Slates, Verses vs. Verses at Blue, Monday of the Minds at Flask Lounge, Pat Foley at The Porthole, and more. Boom!
The Oshima Brothers, a duo consisting of brothers Sean and Jamie, bring heir powerful vocal harmony, joyous interaction, and skilled musicianship to the stage of Slates this evening. Jamie is recognized for his virtuosic guitar playing, is also likely to add mandolin and foot percussion, while Sean is known for his warm vocals, percussion and smooth songwriting. Things get underway this evening at 8pm.
Local jam band Hambone will be hosting an open jam tonight at Easy Street Lounge. Tonight they welcome any and all musicians to join them for some musical merriment as this free shindig gets swinging at 9 o’clock.
If you’re anywhere near the Lewiston area this Monday, drop by Pedro O’Hara’s where local pop-rocker Michael Krapovicky will be hosting another installment of his weekly acoustic Open Mic event. Tonight’s free event gets underway at 6:30 and is open to all, so grab an instrument and get ready to make some music, and some new friends tonight!
Tonight you can check out a Blue’s monthly happy hour series called Verses vs. Verses. The event is hosted by Chris Robley & the Fear of Heights and features guest songwriters and word-writers (poems, essays, stories, manifestos, tweets) facing off to find what interesting kinks and connections arise while approaching the same theme from opposite angles. June’s theme is “The Greatest” and this evening’s featured guests will be poets Lee Sharkey and Glenn Morazzini and folk singer-songwriter Putnam Smith. Things get underway at 5:30.
The Porthole welcomes Pat Foley for some acoustic country-rock. If you’re in the area tonight make some plans to drop by as the music starts up at 6.
Local singer-songwriter, Connor Garvey will be bringing his beautiful blend of soul and folk out onto the deck of the Portland Lobster Company on Commercial Street this Monday evening for a free, all ages acoustic show. Check out this fun show as things get underway right around 6 o’clock.
Check out acoustic tunes from local singer-songwriter Bill Howard as he returns to Andy’s Old Port Pub this evening. Bill will be playing some songs during this free, all-ages show which gets started up at 7.
Funky Mondays continue to be the place to get down as Gina Alibrio and the Red Eye Flight Crew bring you some of the funkiest, fun and soul-filled sounds around. Alibrio’s impressive pipes are backed by a band made up of most of the members of Model Airplane so basically you’re guaranteed to have a wicked good time boogie-ing down to some terrific tunes as things get started at 9 over at Portland House of Music and Events.
Monday of the Minds, a showcase of some of the scene’s biggest and brightest hip hop artists, continues tonight at Flask Lounge. This free event is hosted by Stay on Mars and Smokeye. Tonight they welcome Notoriety, Vintagé Kodeine, PINK NAVEL, Odd Gaston, Mr. Ridiculous, High Grade, Riga Tony and John Harris to showcase some of their beats, bangers and bars. Things get underway right around 9 o’clock tonight during this free and fun show.
Aside from here on this blog, she can be found around town taking in local shows, performing with any variety of musical acts (basically anyone who will give her a microphone and a tambourine), and talking up local music on WCSH 6 on Friday mornings around 6:20am. She is also the Promotions Director for WFNK, WTHT and WHXR in Portland as well as an On Air Personality at 107.5 Frank FM.
