The Portland Jazz Orchestra will be hosting the 2nd Annual Jazz Orchestra-High School Jazz Ensemble Outreach Program tonight at One Longfellow Square. Under the direction of Craig Skeffington, this month’s featured band will be the South Portland High School Jazz Ensemble. Join the PJO and the SPHS Jazz Ensemble for an evening of big band jazz as things get underway at 8pm.
Clara Junken, one of my most favorite rock n’ roll sirens, will be holding it down tonight with her band in the lounge over at Sonny’s in the Old Port. Things get underway at 8:30 during this free event and will showcase Clara’s blues-influenced RnR tunes. It was also Clara’s birthday on Tuesday so make sure you wish her well and maybe even buy her a fancy drink as she serenades you through the evening hours.
Singer, songwriter, and guitarist Keller Williams has been known for quite some time as a literal one-man jam band. Tonight he steps out on stage with a whole crew of talented musicians as they perform live on at Port City Music Hall in Portland. Starting at 9 check out Keller’s latest project, The Keller Williams Kwartho, that will be helping him bring many of his songs to life with a touch of musical flair. Bluegrass and Americana act Cabinet will open tonight’s show.
If you’re looking for some salsa tunes with a bit of punk influence then make your way over to Geno’s tonight for another show with local salsacore act El Malo as they bring the fun to the stage starting right around 9 o‘clock.

Mellow your mind with some stellar jams at Gritty’s in the Old Port during another fun night with the one and only A Band Beyond Description. Far more than just your typical Grateful Dead cover band, these fellas jam out on everything from Phish, the Allman Brothers, The Band and more. Anticipate good times, good tunes and good people starting right around 9:30.
Acoustic trio Fog Ave will be bringing the good times and good tunes to the Run of the Mill tonight. Beginning at 8 join these talented fellas for some unplugged covers of Paul Simon, U2, The Beatles, Pink Floyd, The Who, The Monkees and many, many more.
Aside from here on this blog, she can be found around town taking in local shows, performing with any variety of musical acts (basically anyone who will give her a microphone and a tambourine), and talking up local music on WCSH 6 on Friday mornings around 6:20am.
