You guys, I saw THE BOSS — the frickin’ BOSS — last night so I apologize in advance if some of these words get all wonky and I break out into random Tenth Avenue Freeze-Out references and just start randomly exclaiming BRUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUCE, but seriously, THE BOSS. Gritty’s in Auburn welcomes back Michael Krapovicky for a night of acoustic pop-rock originals and covers. It also happens to be Michael’s birthday so be sure to join him right around 8 o’clock to give him a big high five and help him get the good times and tunes rollin’ along during this free and fun event.
Uke n’ Smile will be hosting another Open Mic over at the Local Buzz tonight. Beginning at 7:30 any and all musicians are welcome to play some tunes, or if you can’t actually play an instrument, you can sing with the fellas in Uke n’ Smile as they play the music for you. It’s free, fun, and delicious food and drink will be happening as well, so if you’re in the area be sure to swing through and have some fun.
The Liberal Cup welcomes The Calypso Soldiers for a night filled with modern and classic rock, funk, country, and blues. Starting at 8 they’ll be covering a wide variety of artists and styles as well as performing some of their own original material during this free show.
Get yourself over to the Easy Street Lounge in Hallowell tonight for an evening of fun acoustic jams as Sa Rah’s Serenades continue. Let this lovely local songstress sing you some sweet songs as things get started up at this free show right around 9 o’clock.
Check out some outdoor, late-summer fun happening over at the Portland Lobster Company as local rock n’ rollers The Joint Chiefs return for another free, all-ages show this Thursday evening. Starting at 6 these fellas will get the good times and good tunes rollin’ along with a set of high-energy and big fun songs.
Local musician Mike Maurice returns to Salvage BBQ tonight for some honky-tonk piano. Mike will be serving up a classic variety of twangy hits as well as some ragtime tunes and improve music. Check out this free, all ages shindig and enjoy some tasty BBQ as things start up around 6pm.
Local singer-songwriter Justin Walton will be performing some acoustic tunes during a free show at Andy’s Old Port Pub this evening. Enjoy some great music, local brews and delicious food as things get started up at 7pm.
Singer-songwriters Carl Cacho, Lisa Bastoni and Chris Elliot come together this evening for an intimate performance at Blue. Join this trio of talented musicians as they share songs and stories starting at 7pm.
Californian hip-hop production duo Hippie Sabotage will be bringing the party to the State Theatre tonight for an all ages show that’ll get bumpin’ right around 8 with an opening set from Earz.
Vivacious jazz singer Viva is back at Sonny’s this Thursday evening. Check out a free party filled with funk, jazz standards, soul songs and Latin tunes that are performed by Viva and her talented band, The Reinforcements, with a fun and modern twist. This free show starts up at 8pm.
The dudes in Kilcollins will be doing it to it over at RiRa tonight. Starting at 9:30, the fellas of Kilcollins plan on rockin’ you with all sorts of tunes that you know in love mixed in with a handful of catchy original jams for good measure. It’s free, fun and guaranteed to be a good time, so check it out if you’re downtown this evening.
Tonight electro-pop rock act Dean Ford & The Keepsakes will be treating the Oasis patio to a night of electrified pop, rock and dance tunes. Bust a move and have some fun as this free show starts up at 9.
Blue on Congress Street welcomes Caroline Cotter and The Swing Set to the stage for a fun performance this evening. Caroline is an award-winning songwriter with a captivating soprano voice who’ll be joined by members of Portland’s own bluegrass band, Tricky Britches, to form the Swing Set. The act will serve up some enjoyable classical jazz and swing tunes at this event, which gets swinging (see what I did there?) right around 9 this evening.
Portland House of Music and Events welcomes rock-reggae outfit Fear Nuttin Band to the stage as the act brings their final tour to Maine tonight. FNB has developed a sound that combines elements of reggae, rock, hip-hop, hardcore, dancehall and metal drawing on their cultural diversity to make the mix true and real. Check ’em out for yourself as this show starts up at 9 o’clock.
Boston-based Beatles tribute band, Studio Two, takes you back to a time when the world first met the Fab Four and fell in love with a group of mop-haired lads from Liverpool. Studio Two plays a plethora of Beatles favorites from their early years during a high-energy show, which features the four fellas decked out in full 60s garb. Studio Two is a must for any George, Paul, John and Ringo fans so be sure to catch their set tonight over at The Landing at Pine Point as things get swinging right around 7pm.
Aside from here on this blog, she can be found around town taking in local shows, performing with any variety of musical acts (basically anyone who will give her a microphone and a tambourine), and talking up local music on WCSH 6 on Friday mornings around 6:20am.
