I had a movie-scene moment last Friday walking home after some late-night enchiladas (and tequila) at Taco Escobarr. All night long, and for much of the previous day, I’d been listening to Prince non-stop – like I’m sure many of you were doing as well. Therefore it was kind of a treat to wrap up my social engagements and throw on my headphones and absolutely blast the song ‘Kiss’ whilst dance-walking down The Congo. Well, I happened upon four different strangers while doing said dance-walk and each and every one of them recognized the sheer joy the song was bringing me. I noticed their reaction and then proceeded to share a headphone with each of them. We’d listen for a solid 30 seconds together, jamming out, before I dance-walked along to the next person. Seriously, it felt like a cheesy ‘80s flick, but in the best way possible. It brought some serious happiness to my heavy heart. My point being is that if Prince’s music brings as much joy to your days as it does to mine then you’ll probably want to check out tonight’s event Sometimes It Snows In April: A Celebration of Prince at Port City Music Hall. Dean Ford & The Keepsakes will be bringing their tribute set of The Purple One’s tune to the stage alongside a plethora of musical guests as this all-ages show starts up at 8pm. All proceeds will go to the City of Hope, a foundation recognized as a leader in the fight to conquer cancer, diabetes, HIV/AIDS and other life-threatening diseases.

There will also be B-sides, deep cuts and all of your other Brand New favorites as this 21+ party gets raging right around 9pm upstairs at Empire.

A vast blast of hip-hop, electro-pop and straight up electronica music will be taking over Arcadia tonight as Crunk Witch returns to play a free 21+ show that’ll be getting freaky starting right around 9.
