Have some fun this finally Friday with The Soul Sensations at Hollywood Casino in Bangor. Starting at 8 o’clock, this fun act will be bringing down the house with a masterful mix of Motown and Memphis soul, funk tunes and R&B.

Catch some classic and modern rock covers from the Jim Brown Band as the band kicks off their two-night stint at the Penobscot Pour House right around 9 o’clock.

This evening the Stone Mountain Arts Center in Brownfield will host The Press Gang. The Press Gang fuses the talents of squeezebox player Christian “Junior” Stevens, fiddler Alden Robinson, flute-player and vocalist Hanz Araki, and guitarist Owen Marshall into a high-octane musical partnership. The quartet blends their skill and fluency in traditional Irish music with their curiosity and aptitude for other styles. Tonight’s performance will get underway at 8pm.

Rocket into the weekend with a free show from the mind-altering rock group The Outerspace Band at Gritty’s in Freeport tonight. These cats have bee playing all around New England for over forty years and are ready to get the party started right around 8 o’clock.


Nick Perry’s Brass Tax will rocking and/or rolling out on the Gardiner Waterfront as part of the Johnson Hall Free Waterfront Concert Series this Friday evening. This fun four-piece band will be bringing you some catchy originals as well as fun cover tunes as this free and all-ages show starts up at 6pm.

Local act Alter Igor returns to rock out at The Kennebec Wharf tonight with their party-starting classic rock tunes. The band will be playing everything from Nick Lowe to The Who and many, many more iconic rock n’ rollers as they get things underway inside at 9.

Starting at 6 Shanna will be joined by two other local singer-songwriters to play some original tunes, tell stories about the songs they’re playing, and improvise with each other on one another’s compositions. Jazz up your finally Friday happenings with LQH at the Dogfish Bar & Grille tonight. These talented cats will be bringing their melting pot of sound — which includes everything from soul, jazz, funk, rock and all else in between — to this free show that’ll get underway at 8.

Aura in Portland presents the Mighty Mighty Bosstones with special guests Sonic Libido and Battery Steele tonight. The plaid-wearing parents of ska-core, led by growl-voiced Dicky Barrett, will be bringing their tunes to the stage this finally Friday alongside local ska act, Sonic Libido and Portland’s punk rock n’ rollers, Battery Steele. Things get swinging at 8 o’clock.

Tonight The Band Apollo brings their unique blend of rock infused with hints of soul and club-style pop to the patio of Slab as part of their Summer Music Series. Local musician Steve Jones and a few of his friends will be making some noise at Salvage BBQ this evening. Jones and company will be performing a blend of rockabilly, country, old-time rock and roll, Americana, roots and more starting at 8:30.

Tonight electro-pop rock act Dean Ford & The Keepsakes will be treating the Oasis patio to a night of electrified pop, rock and dance tunes. Bust a move and have some fun as this free show starts up at 9.

Local rapper Thommy Kane aka Povery returns to the scene tonight with an all-ages show going down at Portland House of Music and Events. Some hip-hop heavies such as Roxx The ‘96er, Myles Bullen and High Grade will open the show and I am pretty certain there’ll be a few special guests taking to the stage with Thommy throughout the night. Burlington jam band Revibe returns to Maine for a show at Bayside Bowl. Revibe combines a wide range of musical influences and genres including jam, funk, psychedelic rock and electronica to create tight grooves that are bound to keep you moving. Tonight’s shindig gets shaking right around 9 with an opening set by Relative Souls.

Tonight local act Johnny Cremains brings their intense live performance which mixes slow heavy, riffs with piano, sharp vocals, and dark imagery for a sort of lounge-act-from-hell feel (in a good way, of course) to the stage of Empire alongside one of Portland’s finest rock n’ roll attractions, The Tarantula Brothers. Joe and Matt of Americana/folk/bluegrass act The Four Legged Faithful bring their multi-instrumental magic and tight harmonies to the stage of Blue tonight with their project, The Library Band. Tonight’s performance starts up at 10pm.

Acoustic Radio brings some fun country-rock to RiRa tonight. Join in on the fun as this free shindig gets swinging right around 10 o’clock.


The Veggies will be rocking the Mixers tonight with a free, fun show chock full of danceable cover tunes spanning tons of genres and decades as the music starts up right around 8:30.

Holly “The Nunz” Nunan is a musician from Portland, Maine with an unabashed love for the city as well as its thriving Maine music scene. This is her scene report.

Aside from here on this blog, she can be found around town taking in local shows, performing with any variety of musical acts (basically anyone who will give her a microphone and a tambourine), and talking up local music on WCSH 6 on Friday mornings around 6:20am. She is also the Promotions Director for WFNK, WTHT and WHXR in Portland as well as an On Air Personality at 107.5 Frank FM.
