Oh yes! Let’s address the fact that we’re already half way through the week and inching closer and closer to the freakin’ weekend! Wednesday has whipped up some good times for us in the way of such shows as Songwriters on Stage featuring Griffin Sherry, Monique Barrett, Tom Douglas & Carolyn Fernald at Frontier, The Squid Jiggers at Bull Feeney’s, Rap Night at Asylum, Afrobeat Wednesday at Portland House of Music, David Beam & The Custom House Gang at Andy’s and more.


Check out a free show down at Champions tonight as roots rocker Travis James Humphrey returns for a solo set of tunes starting right around 10pm.


Tonight at Frontier in Brunswick, the Maine Songwriters’ Association presents another installment of their monthly series, Songwriters on Stage. The event showcases some of the best songwriters Maine has to offer. This month’s event features three seasoned performers and an emerging songwriter to kick the evening off. It’s an opportunity for listeners to discover new music or come hear local favorites in one of the best listening rooms in Maine. Tonight’s concert gets underway at 7 and features Griffin Sherry, Monique Barrett, Tom Douglas, and Carolyn Fernald.


Guitarist, singer, songwriter and all around nice guy, Dave Jacquet will be hosting another free Open Mic at Cole Farms in Gray this Wednesday evening. Beginning at 7, any and all musicians are welcome to join in on the fun and make some music up on stage with Dave and a few of his friends as they share songs and stories all evening long.


Portland House of Music and Events welcomes all you Dead Heads back for a night of jams during their free happy hour show featuring The Working Dead. Starting at 4:30 the band will be serving up great cover tunes from The Dead and other jam band classics.

Check out yet another installment of Blue’s Irish Concert Series tonight with a featured performance by flutist John Blake and friends. Blake and company will be making music beginning at 7:30. Directly following the their set there will be an Irish Jam Session that’s open to any and all musicians looking to get up on stage and have some fun.

Guitarist and singer-songwriter Junior Brown will be bringing his Bakersfield-influenced, modern alt-country to the stage of Port City Music Hall tonight. If you’re in the need for a little twang, this will be the place to be as this 18+ show gets fired up right around 8pm.

Bull Feeney’s welcomes back the Squid Jiggers to the stage as the duo performs their own brand of folk-infused drinking tunes starting at 8. There’s never a cover charge for this evening’s event so make some moves to check these fellas out this Wednesday evening.

David Beam and the Custom House Gang are back at Andy’s Old Port Pub on Commercial Street tonight to play some of their down home, acoustic roots tunes. The fellas get the good times rollin’ during tonight’s free show starting at 8 o’clock.

Folk-pop act the Dapper Gents Duo will be bringing some good times and good tunes to the stage of RiRa tonight for a free 21+ show that’ll get swinging right around 9.

Rap Night returns to The Asylum tonight as the event showcases some great local hip-hop with the help of hosts ill by instinct and El Shupacabra. Each and every Wednesday these dudes team up to present an epic night of rap that features some of the best and brightest emcees, producers and DJs around. Things get started at 9 with early and late night open mic cyphers, and as always, ladies get in free, so stop through and check it out!

Check out another Afrobeat Wednesday over at Portland House of Music and Events. This midweek party features members of Model Airplane, ShaShaSha, Micromasse, The Fogcutters, and more teaming up to bring you some of the funkiest sounds around. Head out and get down as things start up around 9 o’clock.


Local band 13 Scotland Rd returns to the stage of the Frog and Turtle tonight for a fun mix of rock, blues, R&B, jazz and funk tunes. This free, all-ages show will get swinging right around 7:30.

Holly “The Nunz” Nunan is a musician from Portland, Maine with an unabashed love for the city as well as its thriving Maine music scene. This is her scene report.

Aside from here on this blog, she can be found around town taking in local shows, performing with any variety of musical acts (basically anyone who will give her a microphone and a tambourine), and talking up local music on WCSH 6 on Friday mornings around 6:20am. She is also the Promotions Director for WFNK, WTHT and WHXR in Portland as well as an On Air Personality at 107.5 Frank FM.
