We are officially half way to the freakin’ weekend, my babies! That is serious cause for celebrating, and good thing, because there are a ton of awesome things to check out tonight. So saddle up and get buck wild this Wednesday, yeehaw! (Yup, that happened…you’re welcome.) Check out shows such as Darlin’ Corey at Frontier, The Slocan Ramblers with Joe K Walsh & Matt Flinner at One Longfellow Square, Jamestown Revival with Hannah Daman & The Martelle Sisters at Port City Music Hall, Melinda Torrens at Lenny’s at Hawkes Plaza and more!


Check out a free show down at Champions tonight as roots rocker Travis James Humphrey plays a free show starting up at 9:30pm.


Bluegrass duo Darlin’ Corey will be performing at Frontier this evening as part of the venue’s Live in the Lounge Wednesday night music series. Starting at 7:30 you can stop in and check out the pair’s delightful blend of vocal harmonies, fiddle, banjo, mandolin, and guitars that are used to make up some truly unique bluegrass, old timey and folk sounds. This show is all ages and free so be sure to make some plans to check it out.


Folk-rock outfit Rippleton Cross hosts another open mic at Cole Farms tonight. The pair will be performing some tunes as well as encouraging others to get up on the microphone for some musical merriment and creative fun as this free and all ages gathering gets started at 7pm.


Make some plans this Wednesday evening to check out the down-home, acoustic roots sounds of David Beam and Friends as they return to Andy’s Old Port Pub for some good times tonight. This lively bunch will be playing some great music for your midweek wind down so swing through and enjoy this free and all-ages show starting at 8.

Blue’s Irish Concert Series continues this Wednesday with a performance by Wheezer and Squeezer (Jeremiah McCLane and Tim Cummings). This energetic Vermont-based duo creates some traditional sounds using accordions, bagpipes and often whistles and piano. Check them out as they take the stage of Blue beginning at 8pm.

Harmony-laden, Western-tinged Americana-folk duo, Jamestown Revival will be live at Port City Music Hall. A must for any fan of Shovels & Rope and the Lumineers this Texas-based duo will be taking the stage for an 18+ performance. Local indie-folk act Hannah Daman and the Martelle Sisters will open this Wednesday’s show with a set starting up at 8 o’clock.

Over at Bull Feeney’s in the Old Port you can check out another fun evening of folk tunes with local musician Dave Rowe. Rowe’s free show starts up at 8 so swing through and check him out if you’re in the downtown area this evening.

Canada’s young bluegrass bands to watch, The Slocan Ramblers, are going to be live at One Longfellow Square tonight. The band brings their bold, dynamic sound rooted in bluegrass tradition to the stage for a show that’s not to be missed. Two talented mandolin players, Joe K. Walsh and Matt Flinner will be teaming up to open tonight’s show with a performance beginning at 8pm.

Best known for their unorthodox two-man lineup, hard rock act Local H have made a career out of straddling the fine line between indie and classic rock, cleverly framing snarky lyrics with a generous helping of power chords and feedback. Tonight they bring their hard-hitting live show to the stage of Aura for an 18+ show that’ll start up at 9 with an opening set by Portland rock trio, The Very Reverend.

Folk-pop-rock act the Dapper Gents Duo returns to RiRa for some good times and good tunes tonight. This free party gets started at 9 o’clock.

Crooners & Cocktails welcomes back local duo Hello Clarice as this pair of talented fellas bring some fun tunes to your Wednesday. Hello Clarice features the vocal stylings of Clarence “Jim” Roberts of Hello Newman and the musical mastery of pianist Mike Maurice as they play everything from Frank Sinatra to Billy Ocean. The pair prepares to perform beginning at 9:30pm.


If you’re looking to perform this evening check out the open mic happening at BeBe’s Burritos and Cantina in Saco. This free and all ages gathering offers up a full PA for musicians to use as well as the opportunity to score some future gigs. There will be great food and drink available while you participate in an open mic that always features a welcoming audience in a fun atmosphere. This evening’s open mic starts up at 6:30pm.


Melinda Torrens brings her soulful voice and blend of all things rock, disco, country, pop, jazz and easy listening to the stage of Lenny’s at Hawkes Plaza tonight. Expect some originals as well as covers of such artists as Aretha Franklin, Linda Ronstadt, Bonnie Raitt and Janis Joplin as tonight’s free and all-ages show starts at 7pm.

Bess Berg and Company bring some midweek, musical merriment to The Frog and Turtle this evening. Starting at 7:30 make some plans to stop in and enjoy an evening of jazz piano paired with bass, sax, and drums during this free all-ages event.

Holly “The Nunz” Nunan is a musician from Portland, Maine with an unabashed love for the city as well as its thriving Maine music scene. This is her scene report.

Aside from here on this blog, she can be found around town taking in local shows, performing with any variety of musical acts (basically anyone who will give her a microphone and a tambourine), and talking up local music on WCSH 6 on Friday mornings around 6:20am. She is also the Promotions Director for WFNK, WTHT and WHXR in Portland as well as an On Air Personality at 107.5 Frank FM.
