I’m calling it right now and stating that the long, holiday weekend starts tonight! This Thursday is packing some serious thunder, so why not invite it to the party known as the weekend, right? Here are the happenings for this evening including shows such as OC and the Offbeats at Amigo’s, Alex Roy at Jimmy The Greek’s, Josh Hatfield at Pedro O’Hara’s, The Court Jesters at Sea40, Dominic Lavoie & Friends at Portland Lobster Company, The Grassholes at Flatbread, Blue Öyster Cult at the Waterville Opera House, and much more!
Peter Finkle will be playing an acoustic set at Gritty’s Auburn location this Thirsty Thursday. Join in on the musical revelry as this free show starts up at 8.
The Daniel Coast Bar + Bistro in Brunswick welcomes back Maine musician Peter Carriveau for an evening full of terrific tunes. Peter has numerous influences from folk to Americana to rock. During this free, all-ages show that starts up at 6, you’re likely to hear songs by artists such as Neil Young, Bruce Springsteen, Gram Parsons, Steve Goodman, Van Morrison, The Beatles, Steve Earl, Ray Lamontagne, and many more, so be sure to stop by if you’re in the area this evening.
Uke n’ Smile returns to the Local Buzz this evening for another open mic. All musicians of different skills and genres are welcome as this free, creative gathering gets underway at 7:30.
The Deport in Gardiner welcomes Ron Bergeron for a night of tunes. Ron will be serving up tons of great songs starting at 8pm including covers of The Beatles, Stones, Queen, Elvis, The Boss, Tom Petty, Paul Simon and maybe even a little Lady Gaga. If you’re in the area be sure to stop by and check out some good food and good tunes during this free and fun show.
Local musician Steve Jones and a few of his friends will be making some joyful noise at The Liberal Cup this evening. Jones and company will be performing a blend of rockabilly, country, old-time rock and roll, Americana, roots and more starting at 7 o’clock.
Local musician Dave Perlman will be performing at Rails in Lewiston this evening. Join Dave for a wide array of covers and originals from many different genres during this free acoustic show that’ll get underway at 5:30pm.
Solo pianist and vocalist Josh Hatfield will be performing at Pedro O’Hara’s tonight. Beginning at 7 Hatfield will be playing classics from Billy Joel to the Zac Brown Band and many more; there is sure to be something that everyone will enjoy during this free all-ages shindig.
Harmony-based rock and pop duo, The Court Jesters will be performing at Sea40 this evening. Join the pair for some classic and beloved cover tunes as this free and all-ages event gets underway at 7 o’clock.
OLD ORCHARD BEACH
Pop-rock and roller Alex Roy will be performing a set of original tunes and cover songs at Jimmy The Greek’s this Thirsty Thursday. Tonight’s event is free and sure to be a good time so swing through if you’re in the area as the music starts up at 7.
It’s been a long time since Lyle Divinsky and his poppa Phil came together as Dos Divinskys to lay down some smooth, soulful sounds. Don’t miss out on your chance to see this talented duo do their thing during a show at Blue. The good times, good tunes, and guaranteed good vibes will get going right around 5 o’clock this evening.
Portland psychedelic folk-rocker Dominic Lavoie and a couple of his friends come together this evening to play some tunes out on the deck of Portland Lobster Company. Check out a set of both original jams and cover tunes as this free, all ages shindig gets swinging around 6 o’clock.
Check out The Grassholes as they play some feel-good bluegrass tunes at Flatbread on Commercial Street tonight. Starting at 6:30, kick back, enjoy some beer, delicious food, and mighty fine tunes during this free, all-ages shindig.
Singer-songwriter Jake Manzi will be performing a free, all-ages set at Andy’s Old Port Pub this Thursday evening. Music begin at 7 o’clock.
The Oshima Brothers, a duo consisting of brothers Sean and Jamie, bring their powerful vocal harmony, joyous interaction, and skilled musicianship to the stage of Blue this Thursday evening. Jamie is recognized for his virtuosic guitar playing, is also likely to add mandolin and foot percussion, while Sean is known for his warm vocals, percussion and smooth songwriting. The two take to the stage starting at 7pm.
MB Padfield brings her distinct fusion of pop, rock, blues, jazz and hip-hop elements to Brian Boru tonight. Check out Padfield’s guitar skills and smoky vocals as things get underway at 7:30.
The Portland Jazz Orchestra returns to One Longfellow Square tonight. This 18-piece jazz ensemble performs a variety of traditional and contemporary big band literature. The PJO plays works written by members such as Craig Skeffington, Willie Johnson, Chris Humphrey and Terry White in addition to literature composed by a variety of jazz artists including Tom Kubis, Matt Harris, Bob Mintzer, Bill Holman and Maria Schneider. Tonight they’ll be joined by The Brunswick High School Jazz Ensemble as music starts up at 8pm.
Portland rock band OC and the Offbeats bring their brand of blues-infused, soulful rock and/or roll to the Amigo’s patio tonight for some sweet jams. Join this energetic bunch for some awesome tunes and times as things start up right around 9pm.
Ben Kilcollins & The Vargas Twins will be hanging out at RiRa for some sweet, acoustic action. You know Ben from his time spent pop-rockin’ with his band Kilcollins, but this evening he teams up with the talented Vargas Twins for some fun cover tunes and originals starting right around 9 o’clock.
Jam out this Thirsty Thursday with A Band Beyond Description at Gritty’s in the Old Port tonight. Get your free Grateful Dead freak out on starting at 9pm.
Muddy Ruckus will be playing a show at Blue tonight. This super-fun, gypsy/blues-folk act will kick things off right around 9pm.
Seminal ’70s hard-rockers, Blue Öyster Cult, returns to Maine tonight for a show that will feature their ambitious, beloved, intelligent, and rocking-in-a-strangely-sensual-kind-of-way tunes. The last time these legendary performers were in Maine it was quite the event so make sure you’ve made plans and purchased tickets to see them live at the Waterville Opera House tonight beginning at 7pm.
Award-winning folk artist Anni Clark returns to Lenny’s at Hawkes Plaza this Thursday evening. Clark will be bringing her acoustic 12-string up to the stage for some original tunes starting at 7.
Aside from here on this blog, she can be found around town taking in local shows, performing with any variety of musical acts (basically anyone who will give her a microphone and a tambourine), and talking up local music on WCSH 6 on Friday mornings around 6:20am. She is also the Promotions Director for WFNK, WTHT and WHXR in Portland as well as an On Air Personality at 107.5 Frank FM.
