Check out some midweek happenings such as Rap Night at Aura, Dopapod and Hayley Jane and The Primates at Port City Music Hall, The Way Down Wanderers at One Longfellow Square, Pete Witham at Lenny’s at Hawkes Plaza, and more!


Check out a free show down at Champions tonight as roots rocker Travis James Humphrey performs a bunch of barn burners for ya beginning at 9.


Folk-rock duo Rippleton Cross will be back at Cole Farms this Wednesday to host another free open mic event. The pair will be performing some songs as well as encouraging other musicians to get up on the mic and have some fun. This all-ages gathering will get underway at 7pm.


Make some plans this Wednesday evening to check out the down-home and acoustic roots sounds of David Beam & Friends at Andy’s Old Port Pub. This lively bunch will be playing some great music for your midweek wind down so swing through and enjoy this free and all-ages show starting at 7.

Portland House of Music and Events will be the place to be for an all-ages night of hip-hop as they welcome emcee MadeinTYO to the stage. This evening’s event will start off with an opening set from Maine’s own hip-hop heavy hitter Shane Reis as he and his crew get things popping off right around 7pm.

Blue’s Irish Concert Series rolls on this Wednesday evening with a featured performance by skilled picker Joe Walsh. Music starts at 7:30 and will be followed by a midweek Irish Session that is open to any and all musicians looking to get up on stage and jam.

Over at Bull Feeney’s in the Old Port you can check out another fun evening of folk tunes with local musician Dave Rowe. Rowe’s free show starts up at 8 so swing through and check him out if you’re in the downtown area this evening.

Soulful, 5-piece modern-folk Americana act, The Way Down Wanderers bring their high-energy live show to the stage of One Longfellow Square tonight for a performance that’ll start up right around 8 o’clock.

Rap Night keeps rollin’ in its new spot downstairs at the newly open Aura (aka the former Asylum) as they welcome showcases from Human Speakers (NH), Joe Grizzly (MA) and Portland’s own Stay on Mars. As usual the night will start and finish with an open mic cipher. DJ Myth will also be coming through as guest DJ and holding it down with El Shupacabra on four turntables all night long. Things get underway at 9 o’clock.

Local folk-pop act the Dapper Gents Duo return to the stage of RiRa tonight for their regular Wednesday night gig. Join these fellas for some musical revelry as this free show starts up around 9pm.

Dopapod stops through Portland for a show at Port City Music Hall tonight. Dopapod is best described as an electronic band without computers; basically they’re built to make you dance to their prog-rock, jam-infused, genre-defying sounds that are interestingly diverse to say the least. Tonight they’ll be joined by special guest, Boston-based folkadelic, Americana, soul-pop jam band, Hayley Jane and The Primates. The party starts at 9 o’clock.

More midweek fun will be happening at Crooners & Cocktails tonight as Hello Clarice brings some fun tunes to your Wednesday. Hello Clarice features the vocal stylings of Clarence “Jim” Roberts of Hello Newman and the musical mastery of pianist Mike Maurice as they play everything from Frank Sinatra to Billy Ocean. The pair prepares to perform beginning at 9:30pm.


Local artist Pete Witham returns to Lenny’s at Hawkes Plaza tonight for some fun Americana and rockabilly tunes that are guaranteed to help you hurdle the hump this Wednesday. Pete will be joined by his regular rotating cast of musically inclined characters as this free, all-ages performance gets underway right around 7 o’clock.

Bess Berg and Company bring some midweek, musical merriment to the Frog and Turtle this evening. Starting at 7:30 make some plans to stop in and enjoy an evening of jazz piano paired with bass, sax, and drums during this free all-ages event.


Local bluegrass duo Darlin’ Corey returns to Gather tonight for a free dinnertime set. Beginning at 6:30 you can stop in and check out the pair’s delightful blend of vocal harmonies, fiddle, banjo, mandolin, and guitars that are used to make up some truly unique bluegrass, old timey and folk sounds.

Holly “The Nunz” Nunan is a musician from Portland, Maine with an unabashed love for the city as well as its thriving Maine music scene. This is her scene report.

Aside from here on this blog, she can be found around town taking in local shows, performing with any variety of musical acts (basically anyone who will give her a microphone and a tambourine), and talking up local music on WCSH 6 on Friday mornings around 6:20am. She is also the Promotions Director for WFNK, WTHT and WHXR in Portland as well as an On Air Personality at 107.5 Frank FM.
