Check out Maybird & Sun Parade at Empire tonight

I hope you showed Monday no mercy and are ready to throw down this Tuesday as there’s a bunch of great things going down all around this evening including Xasthur with Johanna Warren & Dwell in Moonblood at SPACE Gallery, Ryan Halliburton & The Still at Portland Lobster Company, Jesus Cactus at Blue, an open mic with Uke n’ Smile at Sea Dog Brewing Company, and much more, so get out there and check it out!


Portland’s professional Klezmer band, The Casco Bay Tummlers, return to the stage of Blue this evening for a performance filled with traditional Eastern European Jewish compositions. Tonight’s show gets started right at 6pm.

Check out another free and all-ages show out on the Portland Lobster Company patio as Ryan Halliburton and The Still bring some pop-rock tunes to your Tuesday evening as the fun begins outside at 6pm.

Check out acoustic tunes from local singer-songwriter Bill Howard as he returns to Andy’s Old Port Pub this evening. Bill will be playing some songs during this free, all-ages show which gets started up at 7.

Electronic music comes in all sounds, colors, and textures, but drummer RJ Miller exploits the ambient side with chilled themes and moody soundscapes that you can check out tonight as he brings his latest musical endeavor, Jesus Cactus, to the stage of Blue. Miller expertly juxtaposes his drum kit with piano, keyboards, and analog synthesizers through infectious melodies that move and groove as things begin right around 8 o’ clock tonight.

Black metal visionary, Scott Conner brings his acoustic trio, Xasthur to SPACE Gallery tonight. Xasthur will be joined on this national tour by Portland, Oregon psych-folk songstress, Johanna Warren and local dark and ethereal songcrafters, Dwell in Moonblood (which features Brendan James Hayter of Obsidian Tongue). Things get underway at 8 o’clock.

Flask Lounge in Portland presents another open mic for DJs with their free dance party, which allows up and coming record spinners to take a chance and get up on the tables during the event. All you need to bring are your records, CDs and controller. All formats of music are welcome as the party starts right around 9 o’clock, so check it out.

Check out a free show at Gritty’s tonight as roots rocker Travis James Humphrey plays a set starting up at 9.

Maybird brings their mix of psychedelia with roots rock to the stage of Empire this Tuesday evening. Grunge soaked power-pop act, Sun Parade rounds out tonight’s bill as the music starts upstairs at 9.


Uke n’ Smile is hosting another open mic at Sea Dog Brewing Company this Tuesday. Starting at 8 any and all musicians are welcome to play some tunes, or if you can’t actually play an instrument, you can sing with the fellas in Uke n’ Smile as they play the music for you. It’s free, fun, and yummy drinks and food are available as well so if you’re in the area tonight be sure to stop by and check things out.

Holly “The Nunz” Nunan is a musician from Portland, Maine with an unabashed love for the city as well as its thriving Maine music scene. This is her scene report.

Aside from here on this blog, she can be found around town taking in local shows, performing with any variety of musical acts (basically anyone who will give her a microphone and a tambourine), and talking up local music on WCSH 6 on Friday mornings around 6:20am.
