We are slowly easing our way into the freakin’ weekend as we make our way into Thursday night! It has been one helluva week and I’m definitely more than ready to hoist up my finest pair of Party Pants and shake it out this evening. If you’re picking up what I’m laying down, then here are some places to bring the Thursday night thunder including shows such as American Ride at Mr. Goodbar, The Joint Chiefs at Portland Lobster Company, Welterweight at Blue, Hannah Harleen at Sonny’s, El Malo at Slab, Immortal presents Battles on Home Turf at Portland House of Music, A Band Beyond Description at Brian Boru and more!
Nick Racioppi of local rock-reggae act A Mighty Lion goes solo tonight for a free show happening at the Fire House Grill in Auburn. Join Nick as music starts during this all ages show right around 8 o’clock.
If you’re in Brunswick this Thursday evening make some plans to stop by The Daniel Coast Bar + Bistro as local artist Jeff Kilton will be taking to the stage for a show featuring the songs of such artists as Jack Johnson, Dave Matthews, The Grateful Dead, Pearl Jam, The Band, Led Zep, Bob Marley and more. Tonight’s free show begins at 6pm.
Acoustic act Uke n’ Smile is back at the Local Buzz this Thursday evening for another Open Mic event. All artists of different skills and genres are welcome to join in during this free and create gathering, which gets underway right around 7pm.
OLD ORCHARD BEACH
Get down to the beach tonight to party with local band American Ride as they bust out a ton of modern country covers at Mr. Goodbar. Boot scootin’, toe tappin’ and yeehawin’ will begin during this free show right around 7 o’clock.
Two of my favorite Portland players (and people) will be joining musical forces for a set of Happy Hour tunes out on the patio of Portland House of Music and Events. Beginning at 4pm stop by and check out local siren Renee Coolbrith and Portland piano man Kris Rodgers as they serenade you with some seriously sweet sounds during this free, all ages show.
Take in some outdoor, summer fun happening at the Portland Lobster Company as local rockers and rollers The Joint Chiefs return for a free all ages show this evening. Starting at 6:30 these fellas will get the good times and good tunes rollin’ with a set of high-energy and big fun songs.
Another chance check out the smart, pop-infused Americana and folk sounds of local act Welterweight happens again over Blue this evening. The band will be coming together on stage in this unique and intimate venue right around 7pm so make some plans to stop in and check them out.
Although Miles Nielsen is the son of legendary Cheap Trick songwriter and guitarist Rick Nielsen, don’t anticipate him riding in on his pop’s coattails as he plays a show tonight at One Longfellow Square. Nielsen and his band, The Rusted Hearts, bring a sound that draws more strongly from such acts as Fleetwood Mac and early-years Wilco. With tunes that are a little rootsy and feature tons of vocal harmonies that will definitely appeal to fans of the aforementioned bands, tonight’s show should be an excellent time in a beautiful venue. Be sure to make some plans to enjoy some songs off the act’s new LP Heavy Metal as things get underway right around 8 o’clock.
The wildly talented Hannah Harleen hits Sonny’s lounge tonight for a free and fun show. This lovely local songstress with be dishing up some jazz, soul, pop and maybe even a little hip-hop for your Thursday evening as things get underway right around 8.
If you’re looking for some sultry salsa tunes with a bit of punk-tinged edge to enjoy outside while eating delicious pizza then look no further than Slab on Preble Street in downtown Portland as they welcome local salsacore act El Malo to their outdoor stage beginning at 8pm.
Local hip-hop label Immortal Music presents a night of rap music and battles over at Portland House of Music and Events. Starting at 9, swing through with a crew to check out showcase sets from The Yeti, The Immortals, and Mister Burns of Lynguistic Civilians as well as rhyme battles between John Blaze and Seth of Gray Street, and Riga Tone and Black Sheep, as well as a late night open cypher.
The super fun fellas in local act Kilcollins will be doing it to it over at RiRa on Commercial Street this Thirsty Thursday. Starting at 9 o’clock, the boys will be rockin’ you with all sorts of tunes that you know and love alongside a handful of catchy original jams for good measure. It’s free, fun and I would say guaranteed to be a good time, so check it out if you’re downtown this evening.
Local electro-pop-rock act Dean Ford & The Keepsakes are back on the Oasis patio for a fun night of pop, rock and dance music. Tonight’s party is free and will feature tones of bumpin’ beats, infectious hooks, serious singalongs, screaming synths and shredding guitar so swing through as things get underway around 9 o’clock.
Local blues brothers and truly talented troubadours Samuel James and Dana Gross are back at Blue tonight as they join musical forces for a night of fun. Beginning at 9 this dynamic duo of dedicated dues will be singing some songs, plucking some guitar strings, and sharing some stories to enhance your Thursday so be sure to stop in and check things out.
