Yaaarrr! I’m so excited about the return of Thursday that I’ve apparently turned into a swashbuckling, seafaring pirate. Meh, whatever, worse things could happen, right? Anyway, without fail tonight is bringing us a surplus of awesome events to check out, so get out there and get your Thursday on at such great shows as The Time Pilots at Memorial Park, Easton Corbin & Canaan Smith at L-A Harley, Renee Coolbrith & Kris Rodgers at Portland House of Music, Slighty Stoopid, SOJA, Zion I and The Grouch & Eligh at the Maine State Pier, The Joint Chiefs at Portland Lobster Company, The Waiters at the Bandstand at Fort Allen Park, Ronda Dale Band at Blue, The Record Company & Jon King at Port City Music Hall, Roots Of Creation at RiRa, Calen Perkins at Blue and more!


Gritty’s in Auburn welcomes back local singer-songwriter Ron Bergeron for a night of tunes. Ron will be serving up tons of great songs starting at 8pm including covers of The Beatles, Stones, Queen, Elvis, The Boss, Tom Petty, Paul Simon and maybe even a little Lady Gaga. If you’re in the area be sure to stop by and check out some good times and good tunes during this free and fun show.


Toby Keith, the immensely popular and outspoken contemporary honky tonk singer capable of both laid-back party anthems and highly charged political statements, brings his Interstates & Tailgates Tour to Bangor tonight for a show at Darling’s Waterfront Pavilion. Things start up at 7 with opening sets from David Lee Murphy and Waterloo Revival.


Local acoustic act Uke n’ Smile is back at the Local Buzz tonight for another free and all ages Open Mic event. All artists, genres, musical capabilities and ages are welcome to join in on the creative fun as this gathering gets started at 7 o’clock.


Local act Alter Igor returns to rock out at The Liberal Cup tonight with their party-starting classic rock tunes. The band will be playing everything from Nick Lowe to The Who and many, many more iconic rock n’ rollers as they get things underway inside at 8.

Maine-based songstress Sa Rah brings an evening of serenades back to the Easy Street Lounge. Make some plans to get cozy and enjoy her acoustic set of songs as things start up at 9:30.


99.9 The Wolf presents a free, all-ages outdoor concert featuring country artists Easton Corbin and Canaan Smith at L-A Harley in Lewiston tonight. Don’t miss out on some twangy tunes during this beautiful summer night as things get underway at 7 o’clock.


Get down to the beach tonight to party with local band American Ride as they bust out a ton of modern country covers at Mr. Goodbar. Boot scootin’, toe tappin’ and yeehawin’ will begin during this free show right around 7 o’clock.

Sparks The Rescue front man Alex Roy goes solo and acoustic tonight for another performance at Jimmy The Greeks in Old Orchard Beach. Starting at 8 you can stop through and check out some of Alex’s pop-rock originals as well as some tried and true cover tunes as he plays a free set of songs this Thursday.


Two of my favorite Portland players (and people) will be joining musical forces once again this evening for a Happy Hour set out on the patio of Portland House of Music. Starting around 4 make some evening plans to stop on by and check out local siren Renee Coolbrith and Portland piano man Kris Rodgers as the pair serenade you with some seriously sweet sounds during this free and all ages show.

More in the way of outdoor fun happens at the Maine State Pier tonight as Slightly Stoopid returns to Maine. Slightly Stoopid mixes ska-punk with hip-hop, dub, folk, and pop in their pursuit of carefree, jam-centric good times and they invite one and all on their musical journey as this all ages show gets swinging with opening sets from SOJA, Zion I and The Grouch & Eligh at 5:30pm.

Southern Maine act Rizing Tide returns to the outdoor stage of The Porthole tonight for some rock and roll cover tunes as well as a few originals that’ll keep you grooving as things start up around 6 o’clock.

Take in some tunes at the Portland Lobster Company as local rockers and rollers The Joint Chiefs perform live this evening. Starting at 6:30 these fellas will get the good times and good tunes rollin’ with a set of high-energy and big fun songs.

Over at the Bandstand at Fort Allen Park on the Eastern Prom, local act The Waiters will be serving up some quality tunes for you to enjoy outside on this beautiful summer night. The Waiters will be dishing out all of your favorite cover tunes starting right around 6:30 during this free all ages event.

4-piece act the Ronda Dale Band will be playing a repertoire of originals as well as some roots and Americana covers during a show at Blue tonight. Join the band for some good times as things start up at 7pm.

Indie folk duo Belle of the Fall will be performing live at Andy’s Old Port Pub this Thursday evening. The pair will be playing some acoustic tunes beginning at 7 o’clock tonight.

Over at Slab, Gorilla Finger Dub Band will be pumping out the live roots, reggae, and dub-step jams. The act takes to the outdoor stage at 7 to provide some extremely danceable party music for anyone who loves and appreciates all things reggae and dub.

Lean and mean rock and roll trio The Record Company bring their bluesy tunes to the stage of Port City Music Hall tonight. This 18+ shindig will get swinging around 8 with an opening set from local blues rock n’ roller Jon King.

Salvage BBQ welcomes back Portland piano man Mike Maurice to their lounge-area for another Thursday evening full of funk, soul and jazz jams. Join Mike and enjoy some of his tasty tunes as well as some delicious BBQ as things get underway at 7.

The Portland Jazz Orchestra returns to One Longfellow Square tonight. This 18-piece jazz ensemble performs a variety of traditional and contemporary big band literature. The PJO plays works written by members such as Craig Skeffington, Willie Johnson, Chris Humphrey and Terry White in addition to literature composed by a variety of jazz artists including Tom Kubis, Matt Harris, Bob Mintzer, Bill Holman and Maria Schneider. You can check them out as things begin right around 8pm.

Jazz artist Viva will be bringing her vivacious vocals back to Sonny’s for another Thursday filled with funk, jazz standards, soul songs and Latin tunes that are done alongside her talented band with a fun and modern twist. Show this Thirsty Thursday what you’ve got as things get underway right around 8 o’clock.

New Hampshire-based band, Roots of Creations, bring their reggae/rock/dubtronica sound over to RiRa in the Old Port tonight for a free show that’ll start up right around 9pm.

Versatile singer-songwriter and guitarist with a hearty appetite for catchy melodies, infectious rhythms, and emotive lyrics, local artist Calen Perkins will be taking to the stage of Blue on Congress Street for an evening of songs and stories. Stop into this unique and intimate venue as Calen begins performing right around 9 o’clock.

Tonight electro-pop rock act Dean Ford & The Keepsakes will be treating the Oasis patio to a night of electrified pop, rock and dance tunes. Bust a move and have some fun as this free show starts up at 9 o’clock.

Empire has a pretty sweet bill happening tonight. Don’t miss your last chance to check out local post-everything act (okay, perhaps a bit of post-punk and straight up rock and roll for ya, babes) Mouth Washington before they go on hiatus. Those guys will join UK improvisational noise-rockers Action Beat, which is fronted by G.W. Sok of legendary post-punk band, The Ex, as well as NYC avant-doom act Opening Bell for a night of eclectic tunes. Things get underway upstairs right around 9:30pm.

Memorial Park in Scarborough’s free outdoor summer concert series continues this evening as local party act The Time Pilots bring you a non-stop dance party. If you’re looking to get down to some great cover tunes, be sure to make plans to be a part of this party, which gets underway right around 6:30.

Locally based party band Girls Just Want To Have Fun bring another night full of ‘80s pop, dance, New Wave, hard rock, rap and one hit wonder tunes to the stage of The Landing at Pine Point. Shake your groove thing out on the dance floor as the party starts at 7 o’clock.

Holly “The Nunz” Nunan is a musician from Portland, Maine with an unabashed love for the city as well as its thriving Maine music scene. This is her scene report.

Aside from here on this blog, she can be found around town taking in local shows, performing with any variety of musical acts (basically anyone who will give her a microphone and a tambourine), and talking up local music on WCSH 6 on Friday mornings around 6:20am. She is also the Promotions Director for WFNK, WTHT and WHXR in Portland as well as an On Air Personality at 107.5 Frank FM.
