Tonight Reggie Harris will be performing as part of the Concerts for a Cause music series at the First Universalist Church in Auburn. Harris combines traditional African-American spirituals and freedom songs with original folk songs revolving around themes of life, love, the quest for freedom, concern for our environment, and the human need for community. A portion of the proceeds of this concert will benefit the Trinity Jubilee Center. Local folk musician Dave Rowe will start things off with an opening set that will begin at 7:30.
Check out a free rock n’ roll show at Gritty’s in Auburn tonight with local act Tilden Katz. These fellas will be getting the party started with all kinds of fun covers beginning at 8pm.
If you’re going to be in the Central Maine area this evening make some plns to get on over to The Nocturnem Draft Haus in Bangor as they present another fine evening of jazz tunes and musical merriment with local act The Bill Barnes Trio. This free 21+ shindig gets swingin’ at 8 o’clock.
Lucie & The Undercover Band will be bringing some classic rock covers back to the stage of the Hollywood Casino tonight for a free 21+ show that starts up at 8pm.
If I weren’t obligated to stay in southern Maine, I would totally make the trek up to Bangor tonight to check out some seriously awesome rock and roll courtesy of Weakened Friends and Midwestern Medicine at Central Gallery. If you can make it out you definitely should, and get there early as space is limited; the music, and fun times, get cranked up to 11 right around 8:30pm.
This evening singer-songwriter Chris Smither brings his smooth, lyrical guitar style that draws upon elements of blues, folk, country and rock to the stage of the Chocolate Church Arts Center. Tonight’s performance will begin at 7:30.
Check out the future pop-rock styles of Digisaurus as they bring a roaring good time (see what I did there?!) to Elements on Main Street this evening. This free and all-ages show will get swinging right around 8pm.
Dale Watson and Ray Benson of the 9-time Grammy Award winning, king of Western swing act, Asleep at the Wheel, will be stirring things up on stage at the Stone Mountain Arts Center in Brownfield this evening. Tonight’s shindig gets swinging right around 8 o’clock.
Cover band, Stolen Mojo will be playing some pop, rock, Motown, R&B, funk, disco and country jams from the last five decades during a free show over at Skip’s Lounge tonight. Join the dance party as things get grooving right around 8:30.
August West and Friends present Dead Night at Chummies in Ellsworth. Mellow your mind to some renditions of the Grateful Dead as things get underway at 9pm.
The Kevin Midgley Players are back at Gritty’s in Freeport tonight. These local musicians will be performing some Americana and Delta blues tunes as this free show starts up at 8 o’clock.
Don’t miss out on the ultimate Metal Meltdown tonight as Spire 29 on the Square in Gorham will be featuring the heavy sounds of Goshen (former members of New World Oyster), Air Away, Fading Dawn, and Septus. This all-ages show starts up at 6pm and is bound to be a fun and thunderous time.
White’s Cue Connection will be rocking and rolling once again with the heavy-hitting sounds of acts My Tempered Soul, Interloc, The Argon Red and The Friggin’ Neighbors. This rager gets rockin’ right around 8pm and rolls on all night long.
The Scolded Dogs will be bringing the party to the Easy Street Lounge tonight. These fellas will be making some noise playing some original tunes as well as covers of Johnny Cash, Parliament, Snoop Dogg and more as things get swinging at 9.
Shanna Underwood and Wanderlost will be bringing some fine Americana music to the stage of Guthries this evening. Starting at 8 Underwood joins forces with Devon Colella on cello, Drew Wyman on bass, and Greg Bjork on mandolin for some stellar musical sounds.
OLD ORCHARD BEACH
Channeling modern rock influences into anthemic choruses and themes of lust, loss and embracing your inner demons, Sparks The Rescue will be bringing a rock n’ roll party to OOB tonight for a free show at The Brunswick. Things get underway tonight right around 8 o’clock.
Check out another free and fun First Friday show happening at The Dogfish Bar & Grille as Americana/roots rocker Travis James Humphrey returns for some Happy Hour tuneage. Travis’ all-ages performance begins at 5 o’clock.
Tonight Urban Farm Fermentory will host the event, Modality, which will feature music and artwork by locally based artists. This evening’s gathering starts up at 5 and will include tunes by Tall Horse, Barbecue and Brzowski.
Local bluegrass duo Darlin’ Corey will be performing at Blue tonight. Starting at 6 you can stop in and check out the pair’s delightful blend of vocal harmonies, fiddle, banjo, mandolin, and guitars that are used to make up some truly unique bluegrass, old timey and folk sounds. This show is all ages and guaranteed to highlight some great music so be sure to make some plans to check it out.
Bud Java brings some reggae to Andy’s Old Port Pub tonight. This free and fun show will start up at 7pm.
Tonight GoldenOak, a folk group whose genre-blending sound has them steadily emerging as a musical force in New England, teams up with fellow folk act Bold Riley for a night of beautiful music over at One Longfellow Square. These talented bands will be bringing some serious fun to your finally Friday as they take the stage right around 8pm tonight.
Tonight Brit Floyd brings the music of Pink Floyd to life once again with its lavish new stage show, ‘Immersion World Tour 2017’ over at Merrill Auditorium. This evening’s stellar performance gets underway at 8pm.
If you’re downtown this evening doing the First Friday thing, be sure to take in tonight’s performance by Okbari at Blue on Congress Street. Starting at 8 the act will be performing music from the Middle East and Turkey on such unique and beautiful instruments as oud (fretless Middle Eastern lute), qanun (72-stringed Middle Eastern micro-tonal zither), nay (ancient Middle Eastern reed flute), and Middle Eastern percussion.
Seven-piece act Shut Down Brown brings some raunchy grooves to make you move back to the stage of Portland House of Music and Events tonight. Shut Down Brown will be providing a ton of slick mash ups of funk, rock and soul all night long. They’ll be joined by NH band, Gretchen & The Pickpockets, who’ll get the party started right around 8 o’clock.
Portland’s own twisted rockabilly rock and rollers Pete Witham & The Cozmik Zombies are back at Salvage BBQ tonight. Check out this high-energy show as the fun fires up right around 8:30.
Get ready to throw up some horns and have your face melted off as Pigboat, Devils Nite and Objet come together for some heavy duty rock and roll tonight at Geno’s. Skull pulverizing commences at 9 o’clock.
Scoot your pooch down to Port City Music Hall on Congress Street as Dead Sessions bring their authentic but unique renditions of Grateful Dead classics back to the stage starting right around 9 o’clock tonight.
Fridays are always a great time to shake what your mama gave ya, so you might as well do just that tonight by getting down to Flask Lounge on Spring Street in Portland where DJ Jamie O’Sullivan will be hosting his monthly LOVE event. LOVE will feature O’Sullivan and some special guests DJs bringing you the best house, techno and disco to shake your can to. You can check out this free event starting right around 9.
Head out to RiRa tonight as Captain Ray and the Castaways will keep you dancing all night long with some fun rock and roll cover tunes during a free party that’ll get started up at 10.
Another First Friday at Blue means that local act The Evan King Group will be laying down some smooth jazz and funky soul. Grab some friends, a beverage and get ready to have some fun as things get started around 10.

Local act JD Gilbert & The Night Train will be bringing some country tunes to The Kerrymen Pub this finally Friday for a free party that’ll get rockin’ and rollin’ right around 7:30pm.

Locally based party band Girls Just Want To Have Fun bring another night filled with ‘80s pop, dance, New Wave, hard rock, rap and one hit wonder tunes to the stage of Thatcher’s. Shake your groove thing out on the dance floor as the party starts at 7:30.
Check out local musician Ron Bergeron as he plays a free show at the Silver Street Tavern in Waterville tonight. Ron will be getting things kicked into gear right around 8 with tons great covers from The Beatles, Stones, Queen, Elvis, The Boss, Tom Petty, Paul Simon and many more.
The Groove Kings return to the Frog and Turtle tonight to for some soul, funk and rhythm & blues tunes. Let these talented gents treat you to some serious fun as this free finally Friday show starts up at 8:30pm.
Vocalist Heather Masse is one-third of the Juno Award-winning Canadian trio The Wailin’ Jennys. This evening Heather joins forces with pianist and former 317 Main Community Music Center teacher, Jed Wilson for a live performance at the First Parish Congregational Church in Yarmouth. Beginning at 7 the duo will be showcasing some folk, pop and bluegrass sounds.
Aside from here on this blog, she can be found around town taking in local shows, performing with any variety of musical acts (basically anyone who will give her a microphone and a tambourine), and talking up local music on WCSH 6 on Friday mornings around 6:20am. She is also the Promotions Director for WFNK, WTHT and WHXR in Portland as well as an On Air Personality at 107.5 Frank FM.
