What’s up, Wednesday?! I am pumped to see you and to hurdle this hump so that we can all glide into our weekend stride. Per usual, there’s a bunch of fun stuff to check out, so let’s do it to it, my babies! If you’re south of Portland tonight and looking to take in some roots rock jams then make your way down to Champions Sports Bar in Biddeford where Travis James Humphrey will be playing a solo set of tunes. Humphrey will be doing his thing starting at 9pm. It’s a free event so no excuses; check it out!
Take in some tunes by Brazilian choro ensemble, Choro Louco, as they play a show at Frontier as part of the venue’s Live in the Lounge Music Series. Choro Louco features local musicians Carl Dimow, Nicole Rabata, Joel Eckhaus, Eric LaPerna, and David Newsmam. This evening’s free performance begins at 7:30pm.
Don Hebert of local classic cover act The Veggies goes solo for a show at Pedro O’Hara’s tonight. Don will be bringing a show chock full of fun and danceable cover tunes to this free, all ages shindig starting at 7pm.
OLD ORCHARD BEACH
Local pop-rock musician Alex Roy is back at The Brunswick tonight. Roy will be joined by a few musically inclined pals for some original tunes and cover songs. Tonight’s event is free and sure to be a good time so swing through if you’re in the area as the music starts up at 7.
Legendary rock act Gov’t Mule returns to the stage of the Maine State Pier with special guests Galactic on their Revolution Go Tour. Equal parts jam band and blues-rock, Gov’t Mule, featuring Warren Haynes of the Allman Brothers Band, has become a human encyclopedia of great American music while adding to that cannon with their signature sound. Tonight’s all ages show starts at 5:30pm.
Local folk act, The Ghosts of Johnson City will be bringing their acoustic tunes focused on the darker roots of Americana music to the outdoor stage of Slab this evening. Join the band for some tunes as this free and all ages event begins out on the patio at 6pm.
The Porthole welcomes back local singer-songwriter Isaiah Bennett for a set of original acoustic pop and funk songs as well as some fun covers. Things get started at 6 o’clock during this free show so make some plans to stop through if you’re downtown this evening.
Eric Bettencourt is still playing around town and tonight he’ll be joining a few pals once again out on the deck of the Portland Lobster Company for some musical merriment. I anticipate lots of good times and good tunes as this free show starts up at 6:30pm.
Check out some classic blues tunes at Andy’s Old Port Pub tonight as they welcome local act Ramblin Chops for a free and family-friendly show that’ll start up right around 7 o’clock.
Blue’s Irish Concert Series continues with a featured performance by Lua Project. Music starts at 7:30 and will be followed by another Wednesday evening Irish Session open to any and all musicians looking to get up on stage and jam.
Local folk artist Dave Rowe is back at Bull Feeney’s tonight. Join Rowe for some good times and good tunes as this free show begins at 8pm.
Tonight Aura presents the Gin Blossoms with Best Not Broken and Soft Swells. The Gin Blossoms’ fusion of pop, melodic rock, folk and country elements took the airwaves by siege, making the band an MTV playlist hostage for almost a decade and the group a natural 90’s mainstay. Tonight you can see them perform alongside special guests Best Not Broken and Soft Swells as things get underway right around 8pm.
A free show filled with some great, local punk rock (and roll) will be happening at Flask Lounge tonight as Port City Saints, Spillers, Ray’s Occult and Call Shotgun (actually these guys are in town from NY, but you get the picture) come together for some fun as tunes get cranking right around 8pm.
Rustic indie pop songwriting duo Whitney will be at Port City Music Hall tonight. The act features Julien Ehrlich and Max Kakacek, formerly of Unknown Mortal Orchestra and Smith Westerns. This all ages event begins at 8 with an opening set by New York-based singer, songwriter, and multi-instrumentalist, Sam Evian, whose tunes show a strong influence by the mellower sounds of the ’60s and ’70s.
Check out some good tunes and good vibes going down at Portland House of Music and Events tonight as The Maine Dead Project returns to the stage as part of their summer residency. These talented locals will be taking on the tunes of the Grateful Dead as this groovy gathering gets underway right around 9 o’clock.
This week at Rap Night at Aura you can catch Dynamo-P & Micodin, Dormattics and more. As always, there will be early and late night open mic cyphers hosted by Ill By Instinct with El Shupacabra on the decks. Things get started up downstairs at 9 o’clock.
Local folk-pop act the Dapper Gents Duo return to the stage of RiRa tonight for their regular Wednesday night gig. Join these fellas for some musical revelry as this free show starts up around 9pm.
More midweek fun will be happening at Crooners & Cocktails tonight as Hello Clarice brings some fun tunes to your Wednesday. Hello Clarice features the vocal stylings of Clarence “Jim” Roberts of Hello Newman and the musical mastery of pianist Mike Maurice as they play everything from Frank Sinatra to Billy Ocean. The pair prepares to perform beginning at 9:30pm.
American Ride will be busting out a bunch of modern country covers for you to boogie down to this evening as they play a free and family friendly show at in Mill Creek Park as part of the city’s summer concert series. Tonight’s event gets started up right around 6:30pm.
Phish cover act Pardon Me, Doug is ready to bring some musical merriment to Riverbank Park in Westbrook as part of the city’s Summer Concert Series. These fellas will be performing their renditions of Phish tunes during this free and family-friendly show that’ll start up at 6 o’clock.
The Frog and Turtle welcomes back local musician Tom Douglas for an evening of acoustic classic covers and original songs. Join Tom as this free and all-ages show starts up at 7:30pm.
Aside from here on this blog, she can be found around town taking in local shows, performing with any variety of musical acts (basically anyone who will give her a microphone and a tambourine), and talking up local music on WCSH 6 on Friday mornings around 6:20am. She is also the Promotions Director for WFNK, WTHT and WHXR in Portland as well as an On Air Personality at 107.5 Frank FM.
