Check out Primus & Clutch at the Maine State Pier tonight

All right, another Tuesday is here and everyone should be back into the swing of things. Hopefully you’re all ready to hike up those Party Pants and get yourself out there this evening as there are several different shows to check out including Timothy Gurshin at Andy’s, Jesus Cactus at Blue, CJ3 & Strange Changes at Empire, Toby McAllister at Easy Day, The Jeanne Boyer Trio at Lenny’s at Hawkes Plaza, and more, so do it to it, my beautiful babies!


Local artist Rob Duquette and his band will be bringing a mix of jazz, rock and various other grooves to the lawn of the Thomas Memorial Library in Cape Elizabeth this evening. Here’s hoping Mother Nature cooperates so that this free and family-friendly event can get underway right around 6:30pm.

Party with alt-metal act, Primus out on the Maine State Pier tonight as they bring their blend of punk rock, thrash, speed metal, and funk back to Portland for a show that’ll also feature co-headliners, Clutch. Clutch will be melting faces with their hard-hitting rock that blends elements of funk, metal and some Zeppelin inspired sounds. Tonight’s all-ages performance gets underway at 5:30pm.

Blue welcomes singer-songwriter William Joseph Jiordan. Jiordan’s songs weave mythical New England characters, often farmers and sea folk, into a voice for or the hopeful generosity of humanity. He’s performing his winter’s worth of new songs and characters at alongside East Blue Hill native and bassist, Ross Gallagher. Things get underway at 6 o’clock.

The Porthole on Commercial Street welcomes back Dan Merrill to the deck this evening for a set that’ll feature a variety of acoustic rock, pop and folk covers and originals. Tonight’s show is free and starts up at 6 o’clock.

Check out a free show happening on the deck of Portland Lobster Company as Ryan Halliburton and The Still return to bring some pop-rock tunes to your Tuesday evening as this all-ages show starts up at 6:30pm.

Andy’s Old Port Pub welcomes singer-songwriter Timothy Gurshin tonight. Gurshin’s sound blends elements of Americana with expressive vocals, acoustic guitar and harmonica, and songs with solid musical construction and evocative lyrics. This free and all-ages show starts up at 7pm.

Electronic music comes in all sounds, colors, and textures, but drummer RJ Miller explores the ambient side with chilled themes and moody soundscapes that you can check out tonight as he brings his latest musical endeavor, Jesus Cactus, to the stage of Blue. Miller expertly juxtaposes his drum kit with piano, keyboards, and analog synthesizers through infectious melodies that move and groove as things begin right around 8 o’ clock tonight.

Flask Lounge in Portland presents another open mic for DJs with their free dance party, which allows up and coming record spinners to take a chance and get up on the tables during the event. All you need to bring are your records, CDs and controller. All formats of music are welcome as the party starts right around 9 o’clock, so check it out.

Roots rocker Travis James Humphrey returns to Gritty’s tonight for another free, solo set that’ll start up right around 9 o’clock this evening.

The Christopher Jacques Trio (CJ3) is the newest project from the genre bending Frenchman, Christopher Jacques will be bringing some punk, jazz, avant garde rock, crunk monk funk, gibberish rap, romantic era polka house, and even a little bit of metal to Empire tonight for a post-Primus party. Special guests Strange Changes will get things started as music begins right around 9pm.


Toby McAllister of local pop-rock band Sparks The Rescue will be performing a solo, acoustic set at Easy Day tonight. Starting at 6pm Toby will be performing some of his favorite STR originals as well as some covers of popular tunes from the past 20 plus years.

Acoustic act Uke n’ Smile returns to Sea Dog Brewing Company in South Portland tonight for another open mic event. All artists of different skills, genres, and ages are welcome to get up on the microphone as this free, creative gathering gets underway at 8pm.


The Jeanne Boyer Trio will be bringing some swingin’ sounds to Lenny’s at Hawkes Plaza this evening. This free and all-ages event will get underway right around 7pm.



Holly Nunan

Holly “The Nunz” Nunan is a musician from Portland, Maine with an unabashed love for the city as well as its thriving Maine music scene. This is her scene report.

Aside from here on this blog, she can be found around town taking in local shows, performing with any variety of musical acts (basically anyone who will give her a microphone and a tambourine), and talking up local music on WCSH 6 on Friday mornings around 6:20am. She is also the Promotions Director for WFNK, WTHT and WHXR in Portland as well as an On Air Personality at 107.5 Frank FM.
