Check out Rap Night at Aura

It’s time to power up and power through another Wednesday, babies! There’s a plethora of musical performances to take in tonight so make some plans to work it out this evening at such fun shows as Cumberland Crossing at Lenny’s at Hawkes Plaza, Studio Two at the Mill Creek Summer Concert Series, Scolded Dogs at Frontier, Casco Bay Tummlers in Congress Square Park, Pat Benatar & Neil Giraldo with The DuPont Brothers at the Maine State Pier, Hiss Golden Messenger at One Longfellow Square, The Australian Pink Floyd Show at the State, and so much more!


The Scolded Dogs will be bringing the party to Frontier as part of the venue’s Live in the Lounge music series. These fellas will be making some noise playing some original tunes as well as covers of Johnny Cash, Parliament, Snoop Dogg and more as things get swinging at 7:30.


Acoustic duo Stealing North, which features Neal Jandreau and Tom Doucette, will be playing all kinds of fun covers at The Pilot House in Kennebunk tonight. Join these fellas from some music as things get underway at 6.


Don Hebert of local classic cover act The Veggies goes solo for a show at Pedro O’Hara’s tonight. Don will be bringing a show chock full of fun and danceable cover tunes to this free, all ages shindig starting at 7pm.


Acoustic Americana act Double Entendre will be playing a Happy Hour set at TJ’s Pizzeria in North Monmouth this evening. This talented duo will start making some savory sounds starting right around 6.


Pop-rock musician Alex Roy will be performing a set of original tunes and cover songs alongside a few friends at The Brunswick this evening. Tonight’s event is free and sure to be a good time so swing through if you’re in the area as the music starts up at 7.


Portland’s professional Klezmer band, The Casco Bay Tummlers, will be performing live in Congress Square Park this evening. This free and family-friendly event will feature Eastern European Jewish compositions. Tonight’s show gets started right at 6pm.

The Porthole hosts local singer-songwriter Isaiah Bennett once again this evening as he performs a set of his own original acoustic pop and funk songs as well as some fun covers. Things get started at 6 o’clock out on the deck so stop through and check it out if you’re in the area this evening.

Siren-voiced pop hero, Pat Benatar brings her defiant anthems and chiming ballads to the stage of the Maine State Pier once again alongside her husband and guitarist, Neil Giraldo. Vermont-based folk-Americana act, The DuPont Brothers open the night as this all-ages show starts up at 6 o’clock.

Eric Bettencourt is back in town and tonight he’ll be joining a few pals out on the deck of the Portland Lobster Company for some fun. I anticipate lots of good times and good tunes as this free show starts up at 6:30pm.

Local indie pop singer-songwriter Lucas Roy will be live at Andy’s Old Port Pub this Monday evening. Roy draws his influences from such artists as John Mayer, Ed Sheeran, Jason Mraz, and James Bay. This free, all-ages show will start at 7pm.

Pipes player, Will Woodson, flautist, whistler and singer, Hanz Araki, and guitar, banjo and mandolin player, Owen Marshall come together to perform as part of Blue‘s Irish Concert Series. The combined talent of these three powerful traditional musicians come together for one exceptional musical experience ranging from the United States to Ireland and back as things get underway right around 7:30pm.

Over at Bull Feeney’s in the Old Port you can check out another fun evening of folk tunes with local musician Dave Rowe. Rowe’s free show starts up at 8 so make some plans to swing through and check him out if you’re in the downtown area this evening.

The State Theatre presents North Carolina’s Hiss Golden Messenger at One Longfellow Square tonight. The act plays wide-angle folk-pop and neo-psychedelic country that is certain to enthrall as the music starts up right around 8 o’clock.

The Australian Pink Floyd Show comes to the State Theatre tonight performing The Best Side of The Moon. This Floyd tribute band will be performing the album Dark Side of the Moon in full as well as some of the best and most beloved PF songs of all time. This all-ages show will get underway at 8pm.

Mellow your mind with some midweek music over at Portland House of Music and Events as The Maine Dead Project returns to the stage as part of their summer residency tonight. These talented musicians will be performing songs from the Grateful Dead and other beloved jam bands as things get underway at 9pm.

Local folk-pop act the Dapper Gents Duo return to the stage of RiRa tonight for their regular Wednesday night gig. Join these fellas for some musical revelry as this free show starts up around 9pm.

This week at Rap Night at Aura you can Notoriety, Graphic Melee, and more. As always, there will also be open and late open mic cyphers hosted by Ill By Instinct with El Shupacabra on the decks. Things get started up downstairs at 9 o’clock.

It’s going to get hot and heavy at Geno’s tonight with some face-melting doom, metal, and thrash. Starting at 9 check out the thunderous sounds of Obsidian Tongue, Mavradoxa, Sertaline and Exclave.

More midweek fun will be happening at Crooners & Cocktails tonight as Hello Clarice brings some fun tunes to your Wednesday. Hello Clarice features the vocal stylings of Clarence “Jim” Roberts of Hello Newman and the musical mastery of pianist Mike Maurice as they play everything from Frank Sinatra to Billy Ocean. The pair prepares to perform beginning at 9:30pm.


Boston-based Beatles tribute band, Studio Two, takes you back to a time when the world first met the Fab Four and fell in love with a group of mop-haired lads from Liverpool. Studio Two plays a plethora of Beatles favorites from their early years during a high-energy show, which features the four fellas decked out in full 60s garb. Studio Two is a must for any George, Paul, John and Ringo fans so be sure to catch their set this evening as part of the Mill Creek Summer Concert Series in the park in South Portland. This free and family-friendly concert starts up at 6:30pm.


Lenny’s at Hawkes Plaza welcomes back local, contemporary bluegrass band Cumberland Crossing for an early evening of bustling bluegrass music. Tonight’s free and all-ages show gets kickin’ at 7 o’clock.

Local artist Pete Witham returns to The Frog and Turtle tonight for some fun Americana and rockabilly tunes that are guaranteed to help you hurdle the hump this Wednesday. Pete will be joined by his regular rotating cast of musically inclined characters as this free, all-ages performance gets underway right around 7:30.

Holly “The Nunz” Nunan is a musician from Portland, Maine with an unabashed love for the city as well as its thriving Maine music scene. This is her scene report.

Aside from here on this blog, she can be found around town taking in local shows, performing with any variety of musical acts (basically anyone who will give her a microphone and a tambourine), and talking up local music on WCSH 6 on Friday mornings around 6:20am. She is also the Promotions Director for WFNK, WTHT and WHXR in Portland as well as an On Air Personality at 107.5 Frank FM.
