I don’t know what my deal is, but I’m struggling to keep on keeping on this week. If you’re as ecstatic about it being Wednesday as I am then I’ve got some party places for you to check out this evening including shows like Choro Louco at Frontier, Micromasse at Slab, King Day’s New Imperials at Congress Square Park, Captain Ray and The Castaways at Portland Lobster Company, Holy F**ck and Ossalot at Port City Music Hall, Truth About Daisies at Lenny’s at Hawkes Plaza, and more!
Roots rocker Travis James Humphrey returns to Champions tonight for another free, solo set that’ll start up right around 9 o’clock.
Check out some tunes by Brazilian choro ensemble, Choro Louco, as they play a show at Frontier as part of the venue’s Live in the Lounge Music Series. Choro Louco features local musicians Carl Dimow, Nicole Rabata, Joel Eckhaus, Eric LaPerna, and David Newsmam. This evening’s free performance begins at 7:30pm.
Don Hebert of classic rock cover act The Veggies goes solo for a show at Pedro O’Hara’s tonight. Don will be bringing a show full of fun and danceable cover tunes to this free, all ages shindig starting at 7pm.
The Porthole welcomes back local singer-songwriter Isaiah Bennett this evening as he performs a set of his own original acoustic pop and funk songs as well as some fun covers. Things get started at 6 o’clock, so stop through and check it out if you’re in the area this Wednesday evening.
Organ-based trio Micromasse returns to Slab’s patio as part of Slab’s Summer Music Series. This free show will showcase the melodic and mesmerizing sounds of musicians Chris Sweet, Max Cantlin and Pete Dugas as the three combine guitar, drums and organ to create some superior instrumental jams starting right around 6pm.
Playing a sizzling combination of jumpy blues, west side soul and early rock n’ roll, King Day’s New Imperials will have you on your feet tonight as they play a free and family-friendly show out in Congress Square Park. Things get swingin’ around 6 o’clock.
Make your way down to Commercial Street tonight as Captain Ray and the Castaways will keep you dancing out on the deck of Portland Lobster Company with some fun rock and roll cover tunes. This free and all-ages party gets underway at 6:30 tonight.
Local indie pop singer-songwriter Lucas Roy will be live at Andy’s Old Port Pub this Monday evening. Roy draws his influences from such artists as John Mayer, Ed Sheeran, Jason Mraz, and James Bay. This free, all-ages show will start at 7pm.
Irish Night at Blue continues with a featured performance by local act the Don Roy Ensemble. At the forefront of the fiddling community in the Greater Portland area, one finds the musical duo of Don and Cindy Roy who have long entertained audiences in the Southern Maine area and beyond. Add bassist Jay Young and you have the Don Roy Ensemble, which you can check out for yourself as the music starts up tonight at 7:30 tonight.
Toronto-based electro-rock ensemble Holy F**ck will be headlining an all-ages show at Port City Music Hall tonight. The act uses vintage synthesizers and unconventional instruments during their performance, which you can see for yourself as things get underway at 8pm with an opening set by local rock and rollers, Ossalot.
Bull Feeney’s on Fore Street welcomes back Dave Rowe to the stage this Wednesday as Rowe plays his own brand of folk-infused drinking tunes starting at 8. There’s never, ever a cover charge and also never, ever a shortage of cold beer, so make some moves and check this fella out this evening.
Folk-pop-rock act the Dapper Gents Duo returns to RiRa for some good times and good tunes tonight. This free party gets started at 9 o’clock.
Mellow your mind with some midweek music over at Portland House of Music and Events as The Maine Dead Project returns to the stage as part of their summer residency tonight. These talented musicians will be performing songs from the Grateful Dead and other beloved jam bands as things get underway at 9pm.
Rap Night keeps rollin’ in its new spot downstairs at Aura as they welcome showcases from Mike Wing, Wheelock, and Kid Calvin. As usual the night will start and finish with an open mic cipher. Ill by Instinct will be your hip-hop host with the most and El Shupacabra will be holding it down on the turntables all night long. Things get underway at 9 o’clock tonight.
Crooners & Cocktails welcomes back local duo Hello Clarice as this pair of talented fellas bring some fun tunes to your Wednesday. Hello Clarice features the vocal stylings of Clarence “Jim” Roberts of Hello Newman and the musical mastery of pianist Mike Maurice as they play everything from Frank Sinatra to Billy Ocean. The pair prepares to perform beginning at 9:30pm.
If you’re looking to check out some open mic action this evening make plans to head out to BeBe’s Burritos and Cantina in Saco as they host another free an all ages gathering. This musical event features a full PA system for musicians to use as well as the opportunity for musicians to establish future gigs at the venue. There will be great food and drink available while you participate in an open mic that always features a welcoming audience in a fun atmosphere. This evening’s open mic starts up at 6:30pm.
Lenny’s at Hawkes Plaza will host local act, Truth About Daisies this evening. The band features the songwriting core of Sheila McKinley and Doug Swift, with original music inspired by a mix of folk, rock, reggae, blues, and singer-songwriter genres. See them live as things get underway at 7pm.
The Frog and Turtle welcomes back local musician Tom Douglas for an evening of acoustic classic covers and original songs. Join Tom as this free and all-ages show starts up at 7:30pm.
Aside from here on this blog, she can be found around town taking in local shows, performing with any variety of musical acts (basically anyone who will give her a microphone and a tambourine), and talking up local music on WCSH 6 on Friday mornings around 6:20am. She is also the Promotions Director for WFNK, WTHT and WHXR in Portland as well as an On Air Personality at 107.5 Frank FM.
