Holy flip! It is finally, finally, FINALLY Friday! I don’t know what in the heck happened, but this week felt like the week that would never ever end. Seriously, it was brutal. I am so very ready to hike up my Party Pants and get down into the freakin’ weekend. I’m pretty sure that I’m not the only one who feels this way so if you’re with me, let’s throw this motha into high gear and turn a tire into Friday night! Yessah, bub! Have some wicked decent times at shows such as Id M Theft Able, Timeghost, Craow, Missdick Vibrocis & Foul Terrority at Geno’s, Rustic Overtones & Bella Bartok at Portland House of Music and Events, 13 High, Sygnal To Noise, Arta’sin & Trial By Stone at the Riverside Bar & Grille, Rippleton Cross at the School Street Pub, Clara Junken at Blue, Waka Flock Flame & DJ Whoo Kid at the State Theatre, and much, much more.


The Allison Ames Band will be bringing some irresistible dance tunes to Hollywood Casino tonight as they serve up classic rock covers during a free 21+ event that gets underway right around 8.


Tonight do good and have fun at the 2nd Annual Rock for Brady Benefit with 13 High, Sygnal To Noise, Arta’sin and Trial By Stone at the Riverside Bar & Grille. This is a St. Jude’s event for the family of Brady Mortimer who lost his life from cancer at a very young age. Come celebrate his life with four awesome hard rock bands emceed by Heather Burleigh as thing get underway at 9pm.


Local musician Steve Dunphy will be playing some tunes during an acoustic set over at Champions tonight. This free shindig will get swinging with some fun cover tunes as well as catchy originals beginning at 6:30pm.

Maine-based alternative folk act Northwood returns to Elements tonight for some foot-stomping good times. The band will start making some noise right around 8 o’clock during this free and all-ages event.


Singer-songwriter Lee Sykes brings his rich, soulful voice to The Daniel Coast Bar + Bistro tonight for some acoustic tunes played on his trusty guitar. Enjoy both originals and covers as this free show starts up at 7.


Dance it out Skip’s Lounge tonight as dance/pop cover act Tickle gets ready to bring the house down with some of the best of today’s music mixed in with a little bit of retro funk. The party starts at 9 o’clock.


Folk-rock cover act Rippleton Cross will be performing an acoustic set at School Street Pub. This free show will feature the pair performing renditions of songs by such artists as The Who, Joe Jackson, Simon & Garfunkel, Cat Stevens and many more as things get started right around 8pm.


Check out another free and fun show at The Kennebec Wharf as The Boneheads return to the stage. This local act will liven up your Friday night with fun Americana and roots sounds starting at 9 o’clock.

If you find yourself up in the Hallowell area this evening be sure to stop by Easy Street Lounge as The Whitefields start rocking right around 9. Best described as a folk, funk and rock venture, this band is known for its strong vocal harmonies. Expect a wide range of styles and fun as things get underway tonight.


Guitar, bass and violin trio, Treble G bring their rock and pop instrumentals, which cover decades from the 80’s through today, to Alisson’s Restaurant in downtown Kennebunkport. This free performance will begin at 7pm.

Tonight Blue welcomes Swedish Americana singer-songwriter Sofia Talvik. Unmistakably Nordic in flavor, Talvik somehow still conforms to American interpretations of her own original music, blending sparkle and melancholy, creating a special niche of folk music that has been described as neo-folk. See her perform live as things begin at 8.

Portland-based funk-rock extraordinaires Rustic Overtones return to the stage of Portland House of Music and Events with their beloved blend of soul music, garage punk, jazz and psychedelic sounds. Tonight these hometown heroes will be kicking off their two-night stint at PHOME by performing their 2013 album, “Let’s Start a Cult 2” in its entirety. Things will begin at 8 o’clock with an opening set by Vaudevillian folk punk powerhouse, Bella’s Bartok.

Local musician Rexy Dinosaur returns with saxophone in claws to the Dogfish Bar & Grille tonight. Rexy will be joined by Tom Douglas on guitar and Geoff Williams on percussion as the trio bring you a mix of blues, hip hop and jazz beginning at 8 o’clock.

Southern rapper Waka Flocka Flame is back at the State Theatre tonight. This all ages party gets underway at 8 with an opening set by DJ Whoo Kid.

Lots of high-energy reggae, dub, ska, punk and rock n’ roll to be had at Mathew’s tonight as Roots, Rhythm & Dub, Sammy Kay and El Grande join forces for some Friday fun. Check this show out as things get underway at 8pm.

Local fellas Sylvain’s Acadian Aces are back at Salvage BBQ on Congress Street this finally Friday. Beginning at 8:30 these talented gents will be serving up some authentic Cajun tunes for you to dance around to.

It’s going to get noisy and delightfully weird at Geno’s tonight as Rhode Island acts, Timeghost (industrial/electronic) and Craow are joined by New York band, Missdick Vibrocis and Portland’s own noise guru, Id M Theft Able as well as local improv punk band, Foul Territory (members of Video Nasties, Barbecue, All Night and Blood Caps). Local four-piece cover act, Fighting Fiction will be providing the perfect soundtrack for your Friday night with a wide variety of material from all kinds of genres including modern pop, rock, alternative, country, classic rock and more. The band will be doing it to it with a free show starting at 9:30 at Bull Feeney’s.

If you’re looking for some sultry salsa tunes with a bit of a punk edge then look no further than Blue on Congress Street as they welcome back local salsacore act El Malo to their stage starting at 10.

Tonight The Strand in Rockland welcomes 9-piece band Lakou Mizik. Lakou Mizik is a multigenerational collective of Haitian musicians formed in the aftermath of the devastating 2010 earthquake. The group includes elder legends and rising young talents, united in a mission to honor the healing spirit of their collective culture and communicate a message of pride, strength and hope to the world. See their inspiring performance starting at 7:30pm.

Holly “The Nunz” Nunan is a musician from Portland, Maine with an unabashed love for the city as well as its thriving Maine music scene. This is her scene report.

Aside from here on this blog, she can be found around town taking in local shows, performing with any variety of musical acts (basically anyone who will give her a microphone and a tambourine), and talking up local music on WCSH 6 on Friday mornings around 6:20am. She is also the Promotions Director for WFNK, WTHT and WHXR in Portland as well as an On Air Personality at 107.5 Frank FM.
