Check out Samuel James & Friends tonight at Portland House of Music and Events

This week has been completely nutso. In the best way possible, of course, and honestly, what would I be if I weren’t a little nuts right? Let’s face it, I would be far less entertaining if I weren’t completely bananas. Anyway, it’s Thursday night, one of my absolute favorite evenings of the entire week and there’s a whole bunch of cool stuff going on, so get out there and do it to it! Don’t snooze on such shows as AFI with Nothing & Souvenirs at Aura, The Crown Vics at Bar Harbor Beer Works, Evan Haines & Kenya Hall at the Standard Gastropub, The Ge3ks at the Pier Patio Pub, Native Isles at Slab, Driftwood Soldier at Blue, Ryan Halliburton & The Still at RiRa, Isaiah Bennett at Easy Day, Pat Foley at Lenny’s at Hawkes Plaza, and much more.

Don Hebert of local classic cover act The Veggies goes solo for a show at 84 Court Pizza & Restaurante in Auburn tonight. Don will be bringing a show chock full of fun and danceable cover tunes to this free, all ages shindig starting at 6pm.

Peter Finkle will be playing an acoustic set at Gritty’s Auburn location this Thirsty Thursday. Join in on the musical revelry as this free show starts up at 8.

The Crown Vics prepare to throw down with a non-stop rockabilly dance party at Bar Harbor Beer Works this evening. If you’re looking to bust a move, have some fun, and enjoy some local brews then check out this free show as things get underway at 6pm.

Evan Haines and Kenya Hall join forces tonight for some musical merriment up at Standard Gastropub in Bridgton. Haines will accompany Hall’s soulful vocals with equally soulful guitar as this free event gets underway at 5pm.

Acoustic act Uke n’ Smile will be hosting another open mic event over at The Local Buzz. All musicians of varying skills and genres are welcome to get up on the microphone and perform as things get underway right around 7:30pm.

Check out some funkadelic sounds courtesy of Hambone as the band bring the party to The Liberal Cup tonight. Lots of rock and funk jams will be happening starting at 7 o’clock during this free event.

If you’re spending your Thursday evening in Naples, check out singer-songwriter Ron Bergeron as he plays a free show up at Captain Jack’s.  Ron will be getting things kicked into gear right around 7 with tons great covers from The Beatles, Stones, Queen, Elvis, The Boss, Tom Petty, Paul Simon and more.

Maine-based party band The GE3ks will be bringing the good times to The Pier Patio Pub tonight. Starting at 9 get ready to bust a move to some of the best 80’s pop, dance, New Wave, hard rock, rap and one hit wonder tunes around.

Local four-piece rock n’ roll band, Riot Act, goes quiet tonight for an acoustic set at The Porthole. Tonight’s free show gets started right around 6.

Portland psychedelic folk-rocker Dominic Lavoie and a couple of his friends (ahem, Jeff Beam and Dan Capaldi) come together tonight to play some tunes as Keanu Keanu out on the deck of the Portland Lobster Company. It should be a perfect evening to check out some free jams, both originals and covers, as this all ages, outdoor shindig gets swinging right around 6:30.

Native Isles, which features a veritable who’s who of local talent, will be bringing the party to Slab’s Summer Music Series tonight.  With Emma Stanley on vocals and trumpet/flugelhorn, Tyler Stanley on keys and vocals, Pete Morse on guitar and vocals, and Andy Robbins on drums, this patio show is guaranteed to be an awesome time as the music starts up at 7 o’clock.

Contemporary, acoustic progressive act Valley Haze will be performing at Andy’s Old Port Pub this evening. Join these fellas for some Friday fun as this free and all-ages show starts at 7 o’clock.

Alt-pop singer, songwriter, multi-instrumentalist, and producer, Valerie Orth will be at Blue this evening. Music Existence writes, Valerie is “more than just a pretty voice. She is a force to be reckoned with.” Integrating live instruments with electronic sounds, her Brooklyn-by-way-of-San Francisco-influenced music is unique and authentic. You can see her tonight as things get underway at 7pm.

MB Padfield brings her fun fusion of pop, rock, blues, jazz and hip-hop elements back to Brian Boru tonight. Check out Padfield’s impressive guitar skills and smoky vocals as things get underway at 7:30 followed by dance songs spun by DJ Tiny Dancer.

Tonight Aura in Portland will be helping me make something up to my seventeen-year-old self; something that haunts me literally every time that prom season rolls around… Tonight instead of being forced to attend my senior prom, I will be seeing my beloved Davey Havok perform alongside his band mates, Jade, Hunter and Adam of AFI. You have no idea how happy wee, little, lip-ringed, side-banged, overly-emotional, studded-belt-wearing Nunz would be if I were able to go back fifteen years and tell her to not side-eye her mother for making her go to prom instead of letting her go see her favorite band live in concert. Tonight I let little Nunz feel the feels she was denied in 2003 when she was forced to attend her only prom instead of being able to openly weep during A Fire Inside show. Annnyway, the Northern California punk band whose hardcore origins evolved to include alternative rock, post-punk, and new wave flair are bringing their The Blood Tour with special guests Nothing and Souvenirs to Portland tonight for an all ages show that’ll get underway at 8pm. I’ll be the mid-30’s creep cry-screaming to ‘Days of the Phoenix’ over by the bar…see you there!

Dan Mills, the folk singer-songwriter who portrayed country-guitar legend Carl Perkins in the Broadway cast of Million Dollar Quarter, will be performing live at One Longfellow Square this evening. Of note is that Mills’ song “Best I Could” earned him a nomination for Sirius XM Coffeehouse’s “Singer/Songwriter” Discovery of 2013. Also on this evening’s bill is contemporary jazz violinist and mandolin player, Jason Anick who will perform with his trio as music begins at 8pm.

Guitar genius and roots and blues man, Samuel James, returns to the stage of Portland House of Music and Events tonight for a show that will feature both Samuel solo as well as backed by a full band featuring the local talents of Viva, D. Gross, Clara Junken, Megan Banner, and special guest Max Garcia Conover. An evening of music not to be missed so be sure to make your way over to PHOME as things get underway at 8:30pm.

West Philadelphia based mandolin-bass gutter-folk duo, Driftwood Soldier, will be appearing at Blue this evening. Join this fun pair for some fun tunes as things start up around 9 o’clock.

Check out a free show at RiRa as Ryan Halliburton and The Still bring some pop-rock tunes to the stage during a free show that starts up at 9pm.

Mellow your mind with some stellar jams at Gritty’s during another fun night with the one and only A Band Beyond Description. Far more than just your typical Grateful Dead cover band, these fellas jam out on everything from Phish, the Allman Brothers, The Band and more. Anticipate good times, good tunes and good people starting right around 9.

The Newagen Seaside Inn in Southport welcomes acoustic Americana act Double Entendre this evening. This talented duo will start making some sweet sounds starting right around 7pm.

Easy Day in South Portland welcomes local singer-songwriter Isaiah Bennett this evening as he performs a set of his own original acoustic pop and funk songs as well as some fun covers. Things get started at 6 o’clock, so stop through and check it out if you’re in the area this Thursday evening.
