Maybe it’s a little early to already be counting down the days, but the truth is that we are, in fact, one day closer to Friday…and therefore one day closer to the freakin’ weekend! Tonight’s shaping up to be seriously fun, so let’s give ol’ Tuesday a look-see, shall we? Here we go! Don’t miss out on some seriously fun shows including Elephant Wrecking Ball with Deaf Scene & CJ3 at Empire, The Blast Addicts at Orono Village Green, Big World at Blue, Captain Ray and The Castaways at Portland Lobster Company, Ben Kilcollins at Easy Day, and much more.
Local fellas Alex Roy and Matt Libby come together for another acoustic performance at Champions tonight. This free show will start up at 9pm.
A free, fun and family-friendly show will be happening at the new Orono Village Green this evening with local cover at The Blast Addicts. Starting at 6:30 join these cool cats for a non-stop rock and roll dance party that’s guaranteed to get you moving!
Multi-instrumentalist and member of local acts, SeepeopleS, Sea Level and more, Dan Capaldi will be going solo tonight for a special performance on the rooftop of Bayside Bowl. Check out Capaldi’s original compositions as things get underway during tonight’s free and all ages show right around 6 o’clock.
The Porthole welcomes back Dan Merrill to the deck this evening for a set that’ll feature a variety of acoustic rock, pop and folk covers and originals. Tonight’s show is free and starts up at 6 o’clock.
Local singer-songwriter Kate Schrock will be at Blue this evening with special guest and saxophonist Glen DaCosta. Schrock has shared the stage with artists such as Taj Mahal, Mick Taylor of the Rolling Stones, Wayne Kramer of MC5, The Bodeans, Stephen Stills, and more. Check out Schrock alongside original saxophonist for Bob Marley and the Wailers, Glen DaCosta, as things get underway at 7 tonight.
Make your way down to Commercial Street tonight as Captain Ray and the Castaways will keep you dancing out on the deck of Portland Lobster Company with some fun rock and roll cover tunes. This free and all-ages party gets underway at 6:30 tonight.
Alex Smith and The Mountain Sound bring some country blues to the stage of Andy’s Old Port Pub this Tuesday evening. Join the band for some great tunes as this all-ages and free show starts up around 7pm.
Big World, a Portland band which focuses on taking compositions from jazz and other musical genres to explore the musical form through improvisation, will be playing a show this evening at Blue. Beginning at 8 the act will be performing both original compositions as well as their interpretations of songs by such artists as Sonny Sharrock, James Brown, Mahavishnu Orchestra, and more.
Another Open DJ Night is happening at Flask Lounge. Beginning at 9, you can sign up for a slot DJing on some open decks. All you need to bring are some records, CDs, and a pair of headphones. This event is absolutely free so go on and check it out.
Check out a free show at Gritty’s tonight as roots rocker Travis James Humphrey plays a set starting up at 9.
Upstairs at Empire you can check out a show featuring Elephant Wrecking Ball alongside Deaf Scene and CJ3. Elephant Wrecking Ball is an instrumental, electronic, trombone-led power trio that successfully weaves a variety of influences from jazz, hip hop, electro and the avant-garde. Also on tonight’s bill is Baltimore-based instrumental psychedelic rock act, Deaf Scene and CJ3, the newest project from the genre bending Frenchman, Christopher Jacques that will be bringing some punk, jazz, avant garde rock, crunk monk funk, gibberish rap, romantic era polka house, and even a little bit of metal to the stage starting at 9pm.
Ben Kilcollins is back at Easy Day tonight for a set of acoustic sounds. You know Ben from his time spent fronting local pop-rock act, Kilcollins, but this evening he goes solo for some fun cover tunes and original songs starting right around 6 during this free and family-friendly event.
Acoustic act Uke n’ Smile returns to the Sea Dog Brewing Company in South Portland tonight for another open mic. All artists of different skills and genres are welcome as this free, creative gathering gets underway at 8.
Aside from here on this blog, she can be found around town taking in local shows, performing with any variety of musical acts (basically anyone who will give her a microphone and a tambourine), and talking up local music on WCSH 6 on Friday mornings around 6:20am. She is also the Promotions Director for WFNK, WTHT and WHXR in Portland as well as an On Air Personality at 107.5 Frank FM.
