All right! We made it through Monday without any casualties and it appears as if we’re rollin’ on strong into Tuesday night. Lots of great shows happening all around this evening, so get out there and make some musical magic happen at such musical shindigs as Pat Foley at The Porthole, Edward Sharpe and The Magnetic Zeros & Wild Belle at Thompson’s Point, Ice Cold Zima at Portland House of Music, Ronda Dale at Andy’s Old Port Pub, Choro Louco at Blue, Class Reunion at Empire, The Ballroom Thieves & The Maine Youth Rock Orchestra at Snow Pond Center for the Arts, and more!
Self-proclaimed Sasquatch of Soul, Lyle Divinsky, returns to do his thing out on the patio of Portland House of Music and Events this evening. Starting at 4 o’clock Lyle and a few pals will be laying down some seriously smooth funk, soul, and R&B jams during this free all ages show.
The ten-piece down-home freak folk revue with farmhouse harmonies and bearded bandleader, Edward Sharpe & The Magnetic Zeros, will taking the stage of Thompson’s Point tonight. This all ages, outdoor concert gets started at 6 o’clock with an opening set from Wild Belle.
Blue welcomes Trikala back tonight. The act draws their influences from Carnatic Music (South India’s classical music tradition) and jazz and features an assortment of Western instruments including alto saxophone, guitar, and keyboards. Stop in beginning at 6:30pm as these musicians blend Western timbres, Eastern melody, and rhythm to create evocative compositions steeped in tradition with a contemporary twist.
Another free all ages show will be happening at Andy’s Old Port Pub on Commercial Street as they welcome back local singer-songwriter Ronda Dale. Beginning at 7pm, Ronda will be filling to space with some delightful sounds during this acoustic performance.
Austin, Texas-based “hobo folk” singer, songwriter, musician, and actor Shakey Graves joins musical forces with California indie quartet, Dawes, who’ll bringing their own brand of Band-like rootsiness paired with Crosby, Stills & Nash-like vocal harmonies to the stage of the State Theatre tonight. This all ages show will start up right around 8 o’clock.
Take in some great tunes from Portland’s only Brazilian choro ensemble, Choro Louco as they play a show at Blue tonight. Choro Louco features local musicians Carl Dimow, Nicole Rabata, Joel Eckhaus, Eric LaPerna, and David Newsmam. This evening’s performance gets underway at 8:30.
Another Open DJ Night is happening at Flask Lounge. Beginning at 9, you can sign up for a slot DJing on some open decks. All you need to bring are some records, CDs, and a pair of headphones. This event is absolutely free and always a good time, so go on and check it out.
90’s cover band Ice Cold Zima will be rockin’ their regular Tuesday night gig at Portland House of Music and Events. Time travel back a couple decades with some cover tunes of No Doubt, Fiona Apple, The Cardigans, 4 Non Blondes, Green Day, Lauryn Hill, Bonnie Raitt, Stone Temple Pilots, Alanis Morissette, and more as things get jumpin’ right around 9.
Empire’s summer music series Rhythm & Tues rolls on tonight with house band The Class Reunion. The band features a ton of talented local players performing a bunch of fun throwback funk, blues, and R&B covers so bust out those Party Jorts and get down upstairs starting at 9 o’clock.
Cambridge alternative folk-rock act The Ballroom Thieves return to Maine for a special show featuring accompaniment by the one and only Maine Youth Rock Orchestra. See this dynamic trio paired with some of the state’s most talented youth as this all ages show begins at 5 o’clock at the Snow Pond Center for the Arts in Sidney.
