The Portland Jazz Orchestra is back at One Longfellow Square tonight and this evening they’ll be joined by guest vocalists Chris Humphrey, Andrea Re, Shelli LaTorre, Steve Wark and Katie Oberholtzer to celebrate some of the greatest big band music in history. Local artist Viva brings her vivacious vocals back to the lounge at Sonny’s tonight. London-based duo Oh Wonder will be bringing their mellow, R&B-flecked tunes to the stage of Port City Music Hall tonight. Australian singer-songwriter Cleopold will start things off with a set that’ll begin right around 8:30.
Kick up your heels at Blue this Thursday evening as Matt Meyer and The Gumption Junction return for a show that gets underway at 9pm. The band will be serving up some rootsy, old time, mountain music for you to stomp your feet to, so be sure to stop by and give ‘em a listen if you’re in the downtown area tonight.
If you’re looking to get your angst-filled, hard-rock on this evening then look no further than Empire on Congress Street as Shipyard Brewing Company presents a Pumpkinhead Party with STAR CHILDREN. Tonight the band, which is comprised of some of the scene’s brightest performers, will be bringing the alt-rock hits of the Smashing Pumpkins to the stage to help you get into the Halloween spirit. Lots of loud guitars, delicate lyrics, swooning and/or screeching vocals, as well as massive arena rock will be paired with some tasty Shipyard brews as this ghastly gig gets going right around 9pm.
Kilcollins will be rocking the night away at RiRa on Commercial Street starting at 9 o’clock. The fellas will get your booty shaking out on the dance floor with all kinds of songs that you know and love as well as some catchy original jams that are sure to keep you moving. Mellow your mind with some stellar jams at Gritty’s during another fun night with the one and only A Band Beyond Description. Far more than just your typical Grateful Dead cover band, these fellas jam out on everything from Phish, the Allman Brothers, The Band and more. Anticipate good times, good tunes and good people starting right around 9.
