I know that this week has felt like an eternity for most of us…or maybe just me… but no need to fret as the weekend is right around the corner.  Thursday night has geared itself up some serious action so bust out those Party Pants and let ‘er rip this evening at such shindigs as Monique Barrett at TIQA, Shellac & Shannon Wright at SPACE Gallery, Oh Wonder & Cleopold at Port City Music Hall, Mountain Emergency at Andy’s, Jim Gallant at Lenny’s at Hawkes Plaza, A Band Beyond Description at Gritty’s, Bill Howard at The Daniel Coast Bar + Bistro, Kilcollins at RiRa, Matt Meyer and the Gumption Junction at Blue and much more!


Check out acoustic tunes from local singer-songwriter Bill Howard as he returns to The Daniel Coast Bar + Bistro this evening. Bill will be playing some songs during this free, all-ages show which gets started up at 6.


Acoustic act Uke n’ Smile is back at the Local Buzz tonight for another free and all ages Open Mic event. All artists spanning different kinds of genres, musical capabilities and ages are welcome to join in on the creative fun as things get started at 7:30pm.


King Eider’s Pub in Damariscotta welcomes back local singer-songwriter Ron Bergeron. Ron will be serving up tons of tunes starting at 7 including covers of The Beatles, Stones, Queen, Elvis, The Boss, Tom Petty, Paul Simon and many, many more. If you’re hanging in the area tonight make some plans to swing through and have some fun at this free show.


Local cover act The Depths will be bringing the party to The Liberal Cup tonight. The band will be playing all kinds of songs from all kinds of genres during this free show, which starts up at 7.

Get yourself over to the Easy Street Lounge in Hallowell tonight for an evening of fun acoustic jams as Sa Rah’s Serenades continue. Let this lovely,  local songstress sing you some sweet songs as things get started up at this free show right around 9 o’clock.


TIQA hosts another Thursday Night Cocktail Club tonight with the lovely and talented Monique Barrett. Starting at 5 you can enjoy some terrific live music as Monique sets up shop with her acoustic guitar and plays her original soulful folk tunes during this free event.

Portland psychedelic folk-rocker Dominic Lavoie and a couple of his friends come together this evening to play some tunes as Keanu Keanu out on the deck of Portland Lobster Company. Check out a set of both original jams and cover tunes as this free, all ages shindig gets swinging around 6 o’clock.

Local musician Mike Maurice is back at Salvage BBQ tonight for some honky tonk piano. Mike will be serving up a classic variety of twangy hits as well as some ragtime tunes and improve as tonight’s free, all ages show starts up at 6.

Boston-based band Kali & Ancestors in Training bring their roots rock, blues, reggae fusion, soul, blues and folk-inspired tunes to the stage of Blue tonight. Check out the act’s set as things get started up at 7pm.

Get your Thursday underway with lots of stringed things, foot stomping, and good times as Andy’s Old Port Pub welcomes back Mountain Emergency for an evening filled with bluegrass music. This free event is all ages and gets underway right around 7 o’clock.

The Portland Jazz Orchestra is back at One Longfellow Square tonight and this evening they’ll be joined by guest vocalists Chris Humphrey, Andrea Re, Shelli LaTorre, Steve Wark and Katie Oberholtzer to celebrate some of the greatest big band music in history. It’s sure to be a great night of music as things get underway at 8pm.

Local artist Viva brings her vivacious vocals back to the lounge at Sonny’s tonight. Check out this free show filled with funk, jazz standards, soul songs and Latin tunes that are done by Viva and her talented band, The Reinforcements, with a fun and modern twist. Tonight’s performance will get underway around 8.

Check out some funk, jam, blues and Southern rock sounds for the Soulshiners as they bring the party to Pedro O’Hara’s tonight during a free, all-ages show that’ll start up around 8:30.

Steve Albini brings his witty and idiosyncratic math rock trio, Shellac to SPACE Gallery tonight. This is the band’s first tour of the east coast since the release of their fifth album, Dude Incredible, in 2014. They’ll be joined by Atlanta post-punk singer-songwriter, Shannon Wright as this 18+ show gets underway at 8:30.

London-based duo Oh Wonder will be bringing their mellow, R&B-flecked tunes to the stage of Port City Music Hall tonight. Australian singer-songwriter Cleopold will start things off with a set that’ll begin right around 8:30.

Kick up your heels at Blue this Thursday evening as Matt Meyer and The Gumption Junction return for a show that gets underway at 9pm. The band will be serving up some rootsy, old time, mountain music for you to stomp your feet to, so be sure to stop by and give ‘em a listen if you’re in the downtown area tonight.

If you’re looking to get your angst-filled, hard-rock on this evening then look no further than Empire on Congress Street as Shipyard Brewing Company presents a Pumpkinhead Party with STAR CHILDREN. Tonight the band, which is comprised of some of the scene’s brightest performers, will be bringing the alt-rock hits of the Smashing Pumpkins to the stage to help you get into the Halloween spirit. Lots of loud guitars, delicate lyrics, swooning and/or screeching vocals, as well as massive arena rock will be paired with some tasty Shipyard brews as this ghastly gig gets going right around 9pm.

Kilcollins will be rocking the night away at RiRa on Commercial Street starting at 9 o’clock. The fellas will get your booty shaking out on the dance floor with all kinds of songs that you know and love as well as some catchy original jams that are sure to keep you moving. Tonight’s show is free and guaranteed to be a fun way to spend a Thirsty Thursday, so check it out.

Mellow your mind with some stellar jams at Gritty’s during another fun night with the one and only A Band Beyond Description. Far more than just your typical Grateful Dead cover band, these fellas jam out on everything from Phish, the Allman Brothers, The Band and more. Anticipate good times, good tunes and good people starting right around 9.


Check out a mix of Americana, blues, folk, bluegrass and rockabilly from Maine musician Jim Gallant as he returns to Lenny’s at Hawkes Plaza for another free all ages show starting at 7:30 tonight.

Holly “The Nunz” Nunan is a musician from Portland, Maine with an unabashed love for the city as well as its thriving Maine music scene. This is her scene report.

Aside from here on this blog, she can be found around town taking in local shows, performing with any variety of musical acts (basically anyone who will give her a microphone and a tambourine), and talking up local music on WCSH 6 on Friday mornings around 6:20am. She is also the Promotions Director for WFNK, WTHT and WHXR in Portland as well as an On Air Personality at 107.5 Frank FM.
