Swampy roots rock act the Eric Green Party will be performing at Hollywood Casino tonight. This free Friday night party gets underway at 8.

The Nocturnem Draft Haus in Bangor presents an evening of jazz with the musical stylings of The Bill Barnes Trio. Stop by and have a ton of fun as this free show gets swinging at 8 o’clock.

BIDDEFORD

Sarah Horton will be performing some folk and Americana tunes during a free all-ages show at Elements tonight. Things start at 8pm.

BOOTHBAY HARBOR

Asheville alt-country trio Gold Rose brings their Americana highway-gospel to Mine Oyster in Boothbay Harbor tonight.  The trio consists of singer-songwriter and guitarist Kevin Fuller, bassist Ryan Kijanka and drummer Ryan Sargent. The threesome blends crunchy guitar noise with folk, country and Americana. See them alongside special guests, alt-country rockers, The Mallett Brothers Band, as things start up at 9 o’clock.

CALAIS

Lula Wiles bring their folk, roots and Americana songs to life on stage at Washington County Community College in Calais this evening. This talented trio will be making some noise starting up at 7 o’clock.

HALLOWELL

The Kennebec Wharf is the place to be for a Friday night full of rock and alternative covers as well as some super catchy original jams from local band Zealous Bellus. The fellas are ready to party on down as this free show starts up at 9 o’clock.

The Scolded Dogs are back to make some noise at Easy Street Lounge tonight as they bring some more party-rockin’ tunes to the stage for another free show. Starting at 9 you can expect to hear some awesome originals as well as covers of such acts as Johnny Cash, Parliament, Snoop Dogg and more.

LEWISTON

Local cover act The Depths will be bringing the party to Pedro O’Hara’s this finally Friday. The band will be playing all kinds of songs from all kinds of genres during this free show, which starts up at 8 o’clock.

OLD ORCHARD BEACH

If you’re partying in OOB tonight and in need of some high-energy rock n’ roll then make your way over to Mr. Goodbar as Seacoast act Red Sky Mary will be blasting off into the rock n’ roll stratosphere right 7 o’clock this Friday.

The Brunswick in Old Orchard is geared up for another fun Friday featuring dance-pop cover act Tickle. Things get shaking at 8:30 with a super party mix of some of the best music from today as well as some classic retro funk that’s guaranteed to get you out on the dance floor.

PORTLAND

Don’t miss this evening’s Free First Friday Songwriters Circus featuring members of SeepeopleS, The Ghosts Of Johnson City, Hiss & Chambers as well as Clara Junken, Joel Thetford, Brooke Binion, Hannah Daman, Ryan Halliburton, Underground Wildfires, Hunter Dialectic and many more at Empire starting at 4pm.

Blue welcomes back local bluegrass duo Darlin’ Corey this First Friday. Starting at 6 stop on by and check out the pair’s delightful blend of vocal harmonies, fiddle, banjo, mandolin and guitars that make some truly unique bluegrass, old timey, and folk sounds.

Organ-based trio Micromasse will be playing a free, outdoor show at Congress Square Park this evening. If you’re Art Walking, be sure to stop by and check out the melodic and mesmerizing sounds of musicians Chris Sweet, Max Cantlin and Pete Dugas as the three combine guitar, drums and organ to pump out some superior instrumental jams starting at 6pm.

Self-proclaimed Bad to the Bone blues-rock singer and guitarist George Thorogood and his band The Destroyers will be rockin’ the Maine State Pier starting at 6 o’clock tonight.

Vermont folk-rocker Kali Stoddard-Imari will be playing a free, all-ages show at Andy’s Old Port Pub tonight. Stop by for some good times and good tunes as tonight’s show gets underway at 7.

Get ready for some rollicking rockabilly courtesy of Ragged Jack as the band plays a free show out on the deck of The Porthole this evening. This fun show starts up at 7pm.

Pop-rock and Americana act the Jason Spooner Band will be helping you ease into the freakin’ weekend with a party outside on the deck at Portland Lobster Company. This free all-ages shindig starts up at 7pm.

If you’re doing the First Friday thing then make some plans to take in tonight’s performance by Okbari Middle Eastern Ensemble at Blue on Congress Street. Starting at 8 the act will be performing music from the Middle East and Turkey on such unique and beautiful instruments as oud (fretless Middle Eastern lute), qanun (72-stringed Middle Eastern micro-tonal zither), nay (ancient Middle Eastern reed flute), and Middle Eastern percussion.

Five-piece funk, rock and blues band Skosh brings the thunder to the outdoor stage at Slab tonight. The band will be performing a mix of covers and originals as this free all-ages party gets underway at 8.

Starting at 8:30 you can check out some tasty eats and equally tasty tunes at Salvage BBQ as Pete Witham & The Cozmik Zombies take over the joint with their own brand of twisted Americana/rockabilly.

Don’t miss tonight’s triple bill of art-pop luminaries over at SPACE Gallery as Teen, Landlady and Sunset Hearts take the stage starting at 8:30pm.

Things get funky down at Portland House of Music and Events tonight with Shut Down Brown who promise to keep you dancing the night away with their blend of progressive-rock, funk, and soul. There’s bound to be a ton of getting down so be sure to check it out right around 9.

Fridays are generally a great time to shake what your mama gave ya, so you might as well do just that tonight by getting down to Flask Lounge on Spring Street in Portland where DJ Jamie O’Sullivan will be hosting his monthly LOVE event. LOVE will feature O’Sullivan and some special guests DJs bringing you the best house, techno and disco to shake your can to. You can check out this free event starting right around 9.

Over at Brian Boru, Gorilla Finger Dub Band will be pumping out the live roots, reggae, and dub-step jams. The act starts up at 9:30 to provide some extremely danceable party music for anyone who loves and appreciates all things reggae and dub.

Auburn-based, original four-piece rock-reggae act A Mighty Lion will be laying down the funky jams at out on the Amigos patio tonight. Swing through as things start up at 9:30 during this free and fun show.

Another First Friday at Blue means that local act The Evan King Group will be laying down some smooth jazz and funky soul. Grab a drink and get cozy as things get started around 10.

Radio Revival will be playing you a plethora of songs that you know and love including tunes from Queen, ELO, Bowie, Tom Petty, Talking Heads, Led Zeppelin, Thin Lizzy, Weezer and more at RiRa tonight as this free show gets rockin’ and rollin’ at 10 o’clock.

ROCKLAND

The Speakeasy in Rockland welcomes Goodnight Moonshine to the stage this Friday. Goodnight Moonshine is a collaboration of songwriters Molly Venter of the chart-topping Americana group Red Molly, and Eben Pariser of the explosive Brooklyn quintet Roosevelt Dime. See them tonight as things get underway at 8pm.

SABATTUS

Local cover band Stolen Mojo will be playing some pop, rock, Motown, R&B, funk, disco and country jams from the last five decades during a free show at Mixers tonight. Join in on the dance party as the music gets grooving right around 8:30.

SOUTHWEST HARBOR 

Spend an evening with accomplished pianist and composer Paul Sullivan as he performs live at the Salty Dog Gallery in Southwest Harbor this evening. This intimate performance will begin at 5pm this Friday.

WATERVILLE

Get the weekend started with the musical antics of local 4-piece act Smoked Salmon as they bring their eclectic range of sounds to Mainely Brews. There’ll be lots of tunes in the vein of Phish, The Dead, The Band, Dylan, The Beatles, Pink Floyd, Bowie and many more as things get started up at 9:30.

Get heavy at Live at 212 tonight as metal acts One With The Storm, My Missing Half and Begat The Nephilim join forces to bring the thunder, rattle some bones, and melt some faces beginning at 7 o’clock.

Holly “The Nunz” Nunan is a musician from Portland, Maine with an unabashed love for the city as well as its thriving Maine music scene. This is her scene report.

Aside from here on this blog, she can be found around town taking in local shows, performing with any variety of musical acts (basically anyone who will give her a microphone and a tambourine), and talking up local music on WCSH 6 on Friday mornings around 6:20am. She is also the Promotions Director for WFNK, WTHT and WHXR in Portland as well as an On Air Personality at 107.5 Frank FM.
