Check out Slab’s Summer Music Series with Micromasse tonight

Doing it to it slowly but surely this week as we make our way into Wednesday. There are a bunch of awesome things to check out tonight to help you hurdle the hump such as String Tide at Frontier, Karen McDine at Andy’s Old Port Pub, The Maine Dead Project at Portland House of Music and Events,Sparxsea at Rising Tide Brewing Company, and more. Here we go!


Roots rocker Travis James Humphrey returns to Champions tonight for another free, solo set that’ll start up right around 9 o’clock this evening.


Frontier’s Live in the Lounge music series continues tonight with a performance by String Tide. String Tide is an all-male folk quartet specializing in harmonies and bluegrass covers of old time, folk, Americana, and pop tunes. Fiddle, banjo, octave mandolin, guitar, and bass swell with energy and vibrancy as they prepare to pull you out of your seat to dance starting at 7:30 during this free and all ages show.


Check out local musician Ron Bergeron as he plays a free and all-ages show at Pedro O’Hara’s this evening. Ron will be getting things kicked into gear right around 7 with tons great cover songs by The Beatles, Stones, Queen, Elvis, The Boss, Tom Petty, Paul Simon and many more.


Indie pop singer-songwriter Sparxsea will be performing an early evening set at Rising Tide Brewing Company. Enjoy some local brews and local tunes as this free show starts up at 4 o’clock.

Organ-based trio Micromasse returns to Slab’s patio as part of Slab’s Summer Music Series. This free show will showcase the melodic and mesmerizing sounds of musicians Chris Sweet, Max Cantlin and Pete Dugas as the three combine guitar, drums and organ to create some superior instrumental jams starting right around 6pm.

The Porthole on Commercial Street welcomes back talented local singer-songwriter Isaiah Bennett for a set of songs that showcase his distinctive blend of acoustic pop and funk. Things get underway right around 6 at this free and fun event.

Check out some outdoor, summer fun happening at the Portland Lobster Company as local rockers and rollers The Joint Chiefs return for a free all ages show this evening.  Starting at 6:30 these fellas will get the good times and good tunes rollin’ with a set of high-energy and big fun songs.

Andy’s Old Port Pub welcomes singer-songwriter Karen McDine tonight for an all ages, acoustic performance that will get underway at 7pm.

Blue’s Irish Music Series continues with Croga. Forged in Acadia, Croga consists of unique characters from as far away as New Zealand and as close as the still untamed shores of southwestern Mount Desert Island. Tonight they bring their passion irrepressible love for traditional Celtic music to the stage of Blue beginning at 7:30pm.

Over at Bull Feeney’s in the Old Port you can check out another fun evening of folk tunes with local musician Dave Rowe. Rowe’s free show starts up at 8 so swing through and check him out if you’re in the downtown area this evening.

Folk-pop-rock act the Dapper Gents Duo returns to RiRa for some good times and good tunes tonight. This free party gets started at 9 o’clock.

Check out some good tunes and good vibes going down at Portland House of Music and Events tonight as The Maine Dead Project returns to the stage as part of their summer residency. These talented locals will be taking on the tunes of the Grateful Dead as this groovy gathering gets underway right around 9 o’clock.

More midweek fun will be happening at Crooners & Cocktails tonight as Hello Clarice brings some fun tunes to your Wednesday. Hello Clarice features the vocal stylings of Clarence “Jim” Roberts of Hello Newman and the musical mastery of pianist Mike Maurice as they play everything from Frank Sinatra to Billy Ocean. The pair prepares to perform beginning at 9:30pm.


Local adult-contemporary folk rock artist Don Campbell returns to The Frog and Turtle tonight for a free, all-ages show that will start at 7:30pm.

Holly “The Nunz” Nunan is a musician from Portland, Maine with an unabashed love for the city as well as its thriving Maine music scene. This is her scene report.

Aside from here on this blog, she can be found around town taking in local shows, performing with any variety of musical acts (basically anyone who will give her a microphone and a tambourine), and talking up local music on WCSH 6 on Friday mornings around 6:20am. She is also the Promotions Director for WFNK, WTHT and WHXR in Portland as well as an On Air Personality at 107.5 Frank FM.
