Because I am attempting to boost my own Monday morale because yet another Monday is upon us, ready to do its best to completely beat us down, but instead of letting a case of the Mondays win another round, we should hike up our Party Pants and rock this Monday like it has never been rocked before. Local blues and R&B act The Colwell Brothers will be performing at Slates this evening. Join the band as things get swinging right around 8:15pm.
Local pop-rock musician Michael Krapovicky returns to Pedro O’Hara’s to host another open mic event. Join in on the musical revelry as this all ages gathering gets underway around 6:30pm.
Tonight you can check out a new monthly happy hour series happening at Blue called Verses vs. Verses. The event is hosted by Chris Robley & the Fear of Heights and features guest songwriters and word-writers (poems, essays, stories, manifestos, tweets) facing off to find what interesting kinks and connections arise while approaching the same theme from opposite angles. For the inaugural event, the theme is (appropriately first times and this evening’s featured guests will be Megan Grumbling, Rob Cimitile of Builder of the House, and Kathleen Sullivan. Things get underway at 5:30.
Sparks The Rescue front man Alex Roy goes solo and acoustic tonight for a show at Andy’s Old Port Pub. Beginning at 7 you can stop through and check out some of Roy’s pop-rock jams as he plays a free set of songs this evening.
Monday of the Minds, a showcase of some of the scene’s biggest and brightest hip hop artists, continues tonight at Flask Lounge. This free event is hosted by Stay on Mars and Smokeye as they welcome Trail, Words Of Phrase, Flowpez, Dynamo P and Micodin, and Jimmy The Human to showcase some of their beats, bangers and bars. Things get underway right around 9 o’clock tonight during this free and fun show.
Mothership Mondays with Andrew Bailie & Crew continue tonight at Portland House of Music and Events. Get down with Bailie and friends as they funk up your Monday with some super fun jams starting at 9pm.
Aside from here on this blog, she can be found around town taking in local shows, performing with any variety of musical acts (basically anyone who will give her a microphone and a tambourine), and talking up local music on WCSH 6 on Friday mornings around 6:20am. She is also the Promotions Director for WFNK, WTHT and WHXR in Portland as well as an On Air Personality at 107.5 Frank FM.
