Here we go! This Monday why not kick ass and take names by checking out the awesome stuff that’s happening all around town and beyond? Give Monday the one-two punch and check out shows such as Silverstein with Movements, Acadia & Friday Night Lites at Port City Music Hall, Mothership Monday with Andrew Bailie & Friends at Portland House of Music and Events, Sarah Crosby at Slates, Poor Howard at Andy’s Old Port Pub, and more!
Lead singer of The Whitefields, Sarah Crosby brings her solo show to the stage of Slates tonight. Her cover style is bluesy, funky, soulful and always unique and her originals touch on important yet not always talked about issues from the Apocalypse to home foreclosure and also running the whole world. Check out her live performance as music begins at 8:15 tonight.
Local pop-rock musician Michael Krapovicky returns to Pedro O’Hara’s to host another open mic event. Join in on the musical revelry as this all ages gathering gets underway around 6:30pm.
Tonight you can check out another installment of Verses vs. Verses at Blue. The event is hosted by Chris Robley & the Fear of Heights and features guest songwriters and word-writers (poems, essays, stories, manifestos, tweets) facing off to find what interesting kinks and connections arise while approaching the same theme from opposite angles. This month’s theme is “Oh, God!” and will feature guests Max Garcia Conover, Lewis Robinson, and Betsy Sholl. Things get underway at 5:30.
Tonight One Longfellow Square presents DC indie rock trio The Duskwhales. Their sound is reminiscent of 60’s groups such as The Beatles and The Doors through prominent use of keyboards and memorable vocal harmonies. While incorporating elements of psychedelic roots, the band creates a sophisticated style of their own in both studio and live settings. Local synth-pop act Forget Forget opens the night as things get underway at 7 o’clock.
Andy’s Old Port Pub hosts an evening of acoustic, old school Louisiana blues as they welcome back Poor Howard to the stage tonight. This all ages and free show starts at 7.
Post-hardcore act Silverstein will be playing an all-ages show at Port City Music Hall tonight. Movements, Acadia and Friday Night Lites round out tonight’s bill as things get started at 8 o’clock.
Mothership Mondays with Andrew Bailie & Crew continue tonight at Portland House of Music and Events. Get down with Bailie and friends as they funk up your Monday with some super fun jams starting at 9pm.
Aside from here on this blog, she can be found around town taking in local shows, performing with any variety of musical acts (basically anyone who will give her a microphone and a tambourine), and talking up local music on WCSH 6 on Friday mornings around 6:20am. She is also the Promotions Director for WFNK, WTHT and WHXR in Portland as well as an On Air Personality at 107.5 Frank FM.
