Hopefully we’ve all got a little momentum going after the long holiday weekend and are ready to go with the flow and roll with the punches this Tuesday. Thankfully there’s a ton of great stuff to check out if you’re feeling the need to let loose including Bill Howard at Andy’s Old Port Pub, The Gothard Sisters at One Longfellow Square, Ice Cold Zima at Portland House of Music, Clara Junken at Blue, an Open Mic with Uke n’ Smile at Sea Dog Brewing Company and more. Get in some fun pop-rock tunes courtesy of The Grumps as they play a free show out on the Portland Lobster Company deck this Thursday evening.  These talented fellas will get the good times rollin’ during this all-ages event starting at 6 o’clock.

Enjoy some acoustic tunes courtesy local singer-songwriter Bill Howard as he returns to Andy’s Old Port Pub this evening. This free all ages show will start at 7 o’clock.

The Gothard Sisters – who are truly sisters – are multi-instrumentalist Celtic-influenced folk musicians, songwriters, and performers from the Pacific Northwest. Tonight New England Celtic Arts and One Longfellow Square welcome them to the stage for an all ages performance that’ll begin at 7.

Fat Knuckle Freddy is back at Blue this Tuesday evening. Freddy is a local composer, instrumentalist and a songwriter who plays and writes American Primitive Music on cigar box, resonator, Weissenborn, acoustic, and fretless guitars. Check out this fun night of of music as things get started up right around 7 o’clock.

Rhythm & Tues, the Empire’s new summer music series, rolls on tonight with house band Class Reunion. The band features a ton of talented local players performing a bunch of fun throwback funk, blues, and R&B covers. The party starts upstairs at 9 o’clock.

Another Open DJ Night is happening at Flask Lounge. Beginning at 9, you can sign up for a slot DJing on some open decks. All you need to bring are some records, CDs, and a pair of headphones. This event is absolutely free and always a good time, so go on and check it out.

Blue on Congress Street in Portland welcomes back local songstress Clara Junken to perform a set of tunes tonight. Clara’s soulful, blues-infused rock and roll commands audience attention and delivers enticing musical goods to all ears in close proximity, so be sure to settle in, grab a tasty beverage, and enjoy some of Clara’s song selections as things get underway right around 9.

90’s cover band Ice Cold Zima will be rockin’ their regular Tuesday night gig at Portland House of Music and Events. Time travel with some cover tunes of No Doubt, Fiona Apple, The Cardigans, 4 Non Blondes, Green Day, Lauryn Hill, Bonnie Raitt, Stone Temple Pilots, Alanis Morissette, and more as things get jumpin’ right around 9.


Acoustic act Uke n’ Smile returns to Sea Dog Brewing Company in South Portland for another Open Mic this Tuesday evening. All artists of different skills and genres are welcome as this free, creative gathering gets underway at 8.

Holly “The Nunz” Nunan is a musician from Portland, Maine with an unabashed love for the city as well as its thriving Maine music scene. This is her scene report.

Aside from here on this blog, she can be found around town taking in local shows, performing with any variety of musical acts (basically anyone who will give her a microphone and a tambourine), and talking up local music on WCSH 6 on Friday mornings around 6:20am. She is also the Promotions Director for WFNK, WTHT and WHXR in Portland as well as an On Air Personality at 107.5 Frank FM.
