So it seems as though we made it through Monday unscathed and have settled nicely into Tuesday. Let’s make some moves and party it out at some of these awesome happenings that are taking place all around town and beyond tonight including such shows as The Grumps at Portland Lobster Company, Jenny Van West at Blue, Against Me!, Potty Mouth & Frameworks at Port City Music Hall, Ice Cold Zima at Portland House of Music and more. Here’s what’s the what for your evening festivities!
Two of my favorite Portland players (and people) will be joining musical forces once again this evening for a Happy Hour set out on the patio of Portland House of Music. Starting around 5 make some evening plans to stop on by and check out local siren Renee Coolbrith and Portland piano man Kris Rodgers as the pair serenade you with some seriously sweet sounds during this free and all ages show.
Singer, songwriter, multi-instrumentalist and 2015 Maine Songwriters’ Association songwriting contest winner, Jenny Van West will be bringing her roots, country, blues and gospel tunes back to the stage of Blue this evening. Make some plans to enjoy some of Van West’s original songs as this all-ages event begins at 6pm.
Local pop-rock act, The Grumps will be doing their thing out on the Portland Lobster Company deck this Tuesday evening. These talented fellas will be serving up some tuneage at tonight’s free, all ages show starting right around 6 o’clock.
Contemporary folk artist Doug Kolmar will be performing acoustically at Andy’s Old Port Pub this evening. Join Kolmar as this free all-ages event begins at 7pm.
Russell, a new act out of Portland that takes compositions from jazz and other musical genres on a live musical journey, will be playing some original songs as well as some tunes from Sonny Sharrock’s song collection are at Blue on Congress Street tonight. Join the band a they take to the stage right around 8 o’clock this Tuesday.
Full-fledged, old-school punk band Against Me! will be at Port City Music Hall this Tuesday evening for an 18+ show that’ll also feature opening sets from Northampton, all-girl punk outfit Potty Mouth and melodic hardcore act Frameworks. Things get rockin’ and rollin’ right around 8pm.
The State Theatre welcomes RnR act The Kills as the duo brings their fiery garage rock with blues grit, new wave cool, and loads of feedback to the stage tonight. Things start up st 8 during this all-ages with an opening set from reverb-soaked, punk-rock trio LA Witch.
Oscar-nominated singer-songwriter Jon McLaughlin, who combines elements of ‘70s and ‘80s pop songwriting with a modern R&B-influenced vocal approach, will be performing live at One Longfellow Square this evening. Marc Scibilia and Brad Ray will open the night with respective sets starting up at 8.
Another Open DJ Night happens over at Flask Lounge. Starting at 9, you can sign up for a slot DJing on some open decks. All you need to bring are some records, CDs, and a pair of headphones. The event is free and guaranteed to be a good time, so go on and check it out.
90’s cover band Ice Cold Zima will be rockin’ their regular Tuesday night gig at Portland House of Music and Events. Time travel back a couple decades with some cover tunes of No Doubt, Fiona Apple, The Cardigans, 4 Non Blondes, Green Day, Lauryn Hill, Bonnie Raitt, Stone Temple Pilots, Alanis Morissette, and more as things get jumpin’ right around 9.
Empire’s Tuesday night music series, Rhythm & Tues, rolls on tonight with house band Class Reunion. The band features a ton of talented local players performing a bunch of fun throwback funk, blues, and R&B covers so bust out those Party Jorts and get down upstairs starting at 9 o’clock.
Acoustic act Uke n’ Smile returns to the Sea Dog Brewing Company in South Portland tonight for another open mic. All artists of different skills and genres are welcome as this free, creative gathering gets underway at 8.
