The fact that Monday was a holiday might be the reason why it seems like this week is flying by; I gotta say, no complaints over here! If you’re looking to wind down or party it up this Wednesday, there are lots of places to check out. Here are the haps for your Hump Day including Rippleton Cross at Andy’s Old Port Pub, Double Entendre at TJ’s Pizzeria, Tyler Lienhardt & Friends at Blue, Palaver Strings at One Longfellow Square, Seth Warner & Friends at Lenny’s at Hawkes Plaza, Travis James Humphrey at Champion’s and much more.


Roots rocker Travis James Humphrey returns to Champions tonight for another free, solo set that’ll start up right around 9 o’clock this evening.


Organ-based trio Micromasse returns to Frontier tonight as part of the venue’s Live in the Lounge Wednesday night music series. This free show will showcase the melodic and mesmerizing sounds of musicians Chris Sweet, Max Cantlin and Pete Dugas as the three combine guitar, drums and organ to create some superior instrumental jams starting right around 7:30pm.


Don Hebert of The Veggies goes solo for a show at Pedro O’Hara’s in Lewiston tonight. Don will be bringing a show chock full of fun and danceable cover tunes to the stage as this free all ages shindig gets swinging at 7.


Acoustic Americana act Double Entendre will be playing a Happy Hour set at TJ’s Pizzeria in North Monmouth this evening. This talented duo will start making some savory sounds starting right around 5:30pm.


Head out to Portland Lobster Company this evening to check out Captain Ray and the Castaways as they get you dancing with some fun rock and roll cover tunes during a free and all-ages party that’ll get started out on the patio right around 6:30pm.

Local acoustic folk-rock cover act Rippleton Cross will be at Andy’s Old Port Pub this evening. Beginning at 7 the duo will be performing renditions of songs by such artists as Joe Jackson, Simon & Garfunkel, The Who, Cat Stevens and many, many more. This event is free and all-ages so make some plans to check it out if you’re in the area this Wednesday.

Tonight One Longfellow Square welcomes Palaver Strings, a musician-led string orchestra,dedicated to the collaborative interpretation of classical masterworks. Palaver Strings is passionate about taking classical music beyond the concert hall to engage with diverse and new audiences. This evening’s show begins at 8pm.

Bull Feeney’s on Fore Street welcomes back Dave Rowe to the stage this Wednesday as Rowe plays his own brand of folk-infused drinking tunes starting at 8. There’s never, ever a cover charge and also never, ever a shortage of cold beer, so make some moves and check this fella out this evening.

Blue’s Irish Concert Series continues this evening with a musical performance by Tyler Lienhardt and friends. Tyler is one of the co-founders and members of string-band, Tricky Britches, as well as a touring member of roots act, Tumbling Bones. Check out a set of songs courtesy of he and a few of his musically-inclined pals as things get underway around 8pm tonight.

Get your folk-pop on tonight with a free show from the Dapper Gents Duo as they return to the stage of RiRa for a free show that’ll get underway at 9 o’clock.

Mellow your mind with some midweek music over at Portland House of Music and Events as The Maine Dead Project returns to the stage as part of their summer residency tonight. These talented musicians will be performing songs from the Grateful Dead and other beloved jam bands as things get underway at 9pm.

Crooners & Cocktails welcomes back local duo Hello Clarice as the pair of talented fellas bring some fun tunes to your Wednesday. Hello Clarice features the vocal stylings of Clarence “Jim” Roberts of Hello Newman and the musical mastery of pianist Mike Maurice as they play everything from Frank Sinatra to Billy Ocean. The pair performs starting at 9:30pm.


If you’re looking to check out some open mic action this evening make plans to head out to BeBe’s Burritos and Cantina in Saco as they host another free an all ages gathering. This musical event features a full PA system for musicians to use as well as the opportunity for musicians to establish future gigs at the venue. There will be great food and drink available while you participate in an open mic that always features a welcoming audience in a fun atmosphere. This evening’s open mic starts up at 6:30pm.


Lenny’s at Hawkes Plaza welcomes back local instrumentalist and vocalist Seth Warner and a few special guests to the stage for a free show filled with blues, country, folk, re-imagined jazz and songbook standards. Don’t miss out on the fun as things get underway at 7 o’clock.

Holly “The Nunz” Nunan is a musician from Portland, Maine with an unabashed love for the city as well as its thriving Maine music scene. This is her scene report.

Aside from here on this blog, she can be found around town taking in local shows, performing with any variety of musical acts (basically anyone who will give her a microphone and a tambourine), and talking up local music on WCSH 6 on Friday mornings around 6:20am. She is also the Promotions Director for WFNK, WTHT and WHXR in Portland as well as an On Air Personality at 107.5 Frank FM.
