Sweet flippin’ Thursday! We’re making some serious strides towards the freakin’ weekend, and even though it’s been sort of an uphill struggle all week, I have no doubt that today is going to be a good day! There are a ton of shows going on for you to get out there and properly do some Thursday night throwing down, so take a quick gander and get to it at such shows as Jenny Van West & Jon Cooper at Blue, Keanu Keanu at The Liberal Cup, Pitch Black Ribbons at The Rack, Metal Church & Hatchet at Asylum, Crimewave at Bull Feeney’s, Vinyl Tap at Brian Boru and more!
Local acoustic act, Uke n’ Smile, will be hosting an Open Mic night at the Local Buzz this evening. Beginning at 7 o’clock all reasonably capable musicians are more than welcome to play some tunes or you can come and sing with the fellas in Uke n’ Smile as they play the music for you. It’s free, fun and yummy drinks and food are available as well, so if you’re in the area tonight, be sure to stop by and check it out.
If you’re doing some spring skiing and find yourself up at Sugarloaf, be sure to check out local country-rock duo Pitch Black Ribbons at The Rack tonight. The brothers will be bringing their toe-tapping tunes to the stage starting right around 7 o’clock.
Portland psychedelic folk-rocker Dominic Lavoie and a couple of his friends (ahem, Jeff Beam and Dan Capaldi) come together tonight to play some tunes as Keanu Keanu up at The Liberal Cup in Hallowell this Thursday. Starting at 7 check out this free show that’ll include both cover songs and original jams.
Sa Rah’s Serenades continue over at Easy Street Lounge this Thursday. Grab yourself a cozy seat, a delicious cocktail, and get ready to enjoy some lovely acoustic tunes courtesy of this local songstress as this free event starts up at 9pm.
OLD ORCHARD BEACH
Locally based musicians Alex Roy and Matt Libby will be performing a set of original and cover songs at Jimmy The Greeks in Old Orchard Beach as part of the restaurant’s Local Flavah Thursday. The evening gets underway at 7:30 and will feature music and select Maine brews and liquors for only $4. Tonight’s event is all-ages and free so be sure to swing through if you’re in the area this Thursday.
Singer, songwriter and multi-instrumentalist Jenny Van West will be joined by fellow musician Jon Cooper for an evening of music at Blue this Thursday. The pair will be sharing songs and stories starting at 5 o’clock.
Welcome Thursday with some stellar sounds courtesy of local artist Kafari at Portland House of Music and Events. Check out the multifarious jazz and funk sounds Kafari creates on his keyboard as this free Happy Hour event starts up at 5pm.
Join Will Bradford and other members of alt-pop-rock outfit SeepeopleS as they debut some new material, before they hit the road for another tour, tonight at Blue on Congress Street. Music starts at 7pm.
Award-winning songwriter, speaker, author, activist David Lamotte comes to Portland tonight for a show at One Longfellow Square. The Boston Globe says he “pushes the envelope with challenging lyrics and unusual tunings, but he also pays homage to folk tradition,” while BBC Radio praises his “charm, stories, humour, insightful songs, sweet voice and dazzling guitar ability.” See him for yourself in this beautiful and intimate setting as things get underway at 8pm.
Metal Church brings their gut-wrenching heavy metal to the stage of the Asylum tonight for a show that is guaranteed to help you thrash it on out this Thursday. Things get started up at 8 with an opening set from special guests Hatchet.
Michael Taylor of Rustic Overtones, Royal Hammer, The Awesome, and many more musical acts from around town will be going solo tonight for a fun set of reggae songs at Sonny’s tonight. Join Taylor for some good times and good tunes as things start up during tonight’s free show at 8:30pm.
