Oh man, this week has been chock full of all things awesome, and it’s rollin’ steadily along into the freakin’ weekend! Get festive this Thursday and check out some live tunes; here are some holiday hot spots to hit up tonight including Skosh at Portland House of Music and Events, an open mic with Uke n’ Smile at the Local Buzz, Double Entendre at Fire House Grill, Ron Bergeron at King Eider’s Pub, Kyle Friday and The Holidays with a slew of special guests at Spire 29 on the Square, Frank Fotusky at Blue, Kilcollins at RiRa, and more!


Acoustic Americana act Double Entendre will be playing a set at Fire House Grill this evening. This talented pair will start making some beautiful noise as this free and all ages event begins at 7:30pm.


Acoustic act Uke n’ Smile will be hosting another open mic event over at Local Buzz. All musicians of varying skills and genres are welcome to get up on the microphone and perform as things get underway right around 7:30pm.


King Eider’s Pub in Damariscotta welcomes back local singer-songwriter Ron Bergeron. Ron will be serving up tons of tunes starting at 7 including covers of The Beatles, Stones, Queen, Elvis, The Boss, Tom Petty, Paul Simon and many, many more. If you’re hanging in the area tonight make some plans to swing through and have some fun at this free show.


Tonight Spire 29 on the Square invites you to travel back in time to celebrate this holiday season as local musicians Colleen Clark, Susanne Gerry, Renee Coolbrith, and Matthew Slipp channel the great Etta James, Doris Day, Eartha Kitt, and Bing Cosby alongside bandleader Kyle Friday and The Holidays. This is certainly a variety show you will not want to miss so get gussied up in your finest holiday attire and head out to the show as things get underway at 7 o’clock.


The Liberal Cup welcomes The Calypso Soldiers for a night filled with modern and classic rock, funk, country, and blues. Starting at 7 they’ll be covering a wide variety of artists and styles as well as performing some of their own original material during this free and fun show.

Local songstress Sa Rah brings her evening of serenades back to the Easy Street Lounge tonight, so make some plans to get cozy and enjoy her acoustic set of songs as things start up at 9:30.


TIQA’s Thursday Night Cocktail Club continues with local duo Meraki. This pair of Maine musicians will be bringing you smooth sounds from Motown to the Londontown starting up at 4 o’clock.

Local folk-rock musician Brian Patricks returns to Andy’s in the Old Port tonight. Patricks intertwines finger-style, rhythmic guitar with a hint of harmonica into his sets of originals and covers that span the folk, blues, roots and rock genres. Check out his solo set as this free all-ages show starts at 7.

Enjoy an evening of acoustic blues, guitar rags and original tunes performed on both 6 and 12-string guitar as Frank Fotusky returns to Blue tonight for a show that’ll start up right around 7 o’clock.
Portland siren Viva brings her vibrant vocals back to Sonny’s lounge tonight for another performance of jazz standards alongside her talented band The Reinforcements. This free shindig gets swinging at 8 o’clock.

Portland’s own feel-good music collective Happy Folk will be bringing some jazz-rock jams to The Dogfish Bar& Grille tonight. Join this band of musical merrymakers for an evening of feel-good fun as this free, all ages show starts at 8.

Kilcollins will be rocking the night away at RiRa beginning at 9 tonight. These fun fellas will get your booty shaking out on the dance floor with all kinds of songs that you know and love as well as some catchy original jams that are sure to keep you moving. Mellow your mind with some stellar jams at Gritty’s during another fun night with the one and only A Band Beyond Description. Local act Skosh brings their badass blend of funk, rock and ska to the stage of Portland House of Music and Events tonight for a holiday party to remember. This is guaranteed to be a jolly good time so make sure you don your most festive attire and get down to PHOME for 9 o’clock.

Holly “The Nunz” Nunan is a musician from Portland, Maine with an unabashed love for the city as well as its thriving Maine music scene. This is her scene report.

Aside from here on this blog, she can be found around town taking in local shows, performing with any variety of musical acts (basically anyone who will give her a microphone and a tambourine), and talking up local music on WCSH 6 on Friday mornings around 6:20am.
