The excitement is palpable and I know that you guys are just as pumped as I am to get this Friday night rolling along, so let’s check out what’s shaking this evening! Lots to see and do including the Nikki Hunt Band at Sea Dog Brewing Company in Bangor, Marshall Nelson Trio at River Bar & Grille, The Working Dead at The Rack, Scolded Dogs at The Kennebec Wharf, Doctor Fatfinger at The Cage, Lettuce, Tauk & Jaw Gems at the State Theatre, Steve Jones & Friends at Salvage BBQ, Dead Elect, They Call Me Legion & Idle Pilot at Empire, Ice Cold Zima at Brian Boru, The Mallett Brothers Band at Moose Alley, Denny Breau at Lenny’s at Hawkes Plaza, and much more!


The Sapphire in Auburn will be rocking and rolling with the heavy-hitting sounds of acts Dirty Rotten Winter, Angel Slayer, Break The Skin, Years Go By and Thirteen High. This rager gets rockin’ right around 7pm and rolls on all night long.


The Allison Ames Band will be bringing some irresistible dance tunes to Hollywood Casino tonight as they serve up classic rock covers during a free 21+ event that gets underway right around 8.

Local pop-rock cover act The Nikki Hunt Band will be bringing the party to Sea Dog Brewing Company in Bangor. Covering artists such as Sheryl Crow, Joan Jett, Bruce Springsteen, Sublime, No Doubt, The Doors, U2 and many more there’s guaranteed to be something for everyone. Tonight’s performance will also include a colorful hula hoop act so be sure to check it out starting at 9:30pm.


Local act the Marshall Nelson Trio will be bringing their fun, live show filled with funky covers of such acts as the Spin Doctors, Sublime, Lorde, Police, Foo Fighters, Michael Jackson, George Michael, The Beatles, and more mixed in with some original tunes to the Riverside Bar & Grille tonight. Join these talented gents for a Friday full of fun as this free 21+ show starts up around 9pm.


The Blast Addicts will be partying at Ramona’s in Bucksport tonight. Starting at 9 join these cool cats for a non-stop rock and roll dance party that’s guaranteed to get you moving out on the dance floor!


The Working Dead are bringing some feel-good grooves to The Rack at Sugarloaf tonight. This trio of talented local musicians will be serving up some Grateful Dead jams during a show that starts at 9 o’ clock.


The School Street Pub in Gorham welcomes back local folk-rock musician Brian Patricks. Patricks intertwines finger-style, rhythmic guitar with a hint of harmonica into his sets of originals and covers that span the folk, blues, roots and rock genres. Check out Patricks’ solo set as this free show starts at 8:30.


Get down with party band The Shack as they play a free show at Easy Street Lounge. This Skowhegan act will be covering tunes by Alanis Morissette, The Knack, Talking Heads, Jimmy Eat World, Paul Simon, Nirvana, CCR, Joan Jett, 4 Non Blondes, Tom Petty, Eric Clapton, Bad Company, Duran Duran, Blind Melon, ZZ Top, and more as things get swinging around 9 o’clock.

The Doug Morgan Band will be bringing some live and local music to the Quarry Tap Room in Hallowell tonight. Join this fun act for some equally fun tunes as things get underway right around 9.

The Scolded Dogs are back to make some noise at The Kennebec Wharf tonight as they bring some more party-rockin’ tunes to the stage for another free show. Starting at 9 you can expect to hear some awesome originals as well as covers of such acts as Johnny Cash, Parliament, Snoop Dogg and more.


Guthrie’s in Lewiston will be swinging tonight as The Juke Joint Devils return to the stage this Friday to kick out some old time, hard driving blues tunes. Tonight’s free show gets jumping right around 8.

If you’re up in Lewiston tonight make some plans to swing on by The Cage as local act Doctor Fatfinger will be busting out some great cover tunes for you to shake your groove thing to starting at 8 o’clock.


Cover act Stolen Mojo will be playing some pop, rock, Motown, R&B, funk, disco and country jams from the last five decades at a free show down at The Brunswick tonight. Join in on the dance party as things get grooving right around 8:30.


A free and fun show happens over at the Dogfish Bar & Grille this evening as roots-rock artist Travis James Humphrey returns for an all ages Happy Hour set that’ll start up around 5 o’clock.

Pianist Max Eddington and drummer Joseph Perullo will be bringing some vibrant jazz sounds to the stage of Blue this evening. Joined with bass and horns, Max and Joe will dig into their interpretations of Gil Evans and Maurice Ravel and more as things get underway at 6.

The Old Port Tavern hosts local musician Ron Bergeron tonight. Ron will be serving up tons of great songs starting at 7 including covers of The Beatles, Stones, Queen, Elvis, The Boss, Tom Petty, Paul Simon and maybe even a little Lady Gaga. If you’re in the area be sure to stop by and check out some good times and good tunes during this free and fun show.

Check out some acoustic blues and roots tunes courtesy of local duo Beam & Fink as they perform a free, all ages show at Andy’s Old Port Pub on Commercial Street starting at 7 this Friday.

New York-based, funk and groove ensemble Lettuce will be bringing the party to the State Theatre tonight. This rager is guaranteed to be out-of-control FUNky as things get underway at 8 with opening sets from fellow NYC dirty funk act, Tauk and Portland’s own trip-hop outfit Jaw Gems.

MJ’s Wine Bar welcomes back Portland piano man Mike Maurice to their swanky lounge-area for a Friday filled with funk, soul and jazz. Join Mike and enjoy some great tunes and tasty vino as things get started up around 8.

Local musician Steve Jones and a few of his musically inclined friends will be playing some songs at Salvage BBQ this evening. Jones and company will be performing a blend of rockabilly, country, old-time rock and roll, Americana, roots and more starting at 8:30.

Check out some more roots rock for free over at Gritty’s in the Old Port where Travis James Humphrey and his band will be playing beginning at 9. 

It has been quite some time since Maine power-pop-rock band The Sophomore Beat has performed on stage together and tonight they’ll be doing just as they have some serious fun while doing some serious good! Over at Portland House of Music and Events, TSB will be joined by their friends Lannen and Cape Cannons for a night of music to benefit Erica Lohmeyer, who recently underwent brain surgery for Moyamoya disease. Come support a good cause and see some old friends as the music starts up at 9 o’clock.

Check out some riveting rock and roll upstairs at Empire tonight as Dead Elect is joined by They Call Me Legion and Idle Pilot for a show that’ll get crankin’ right around 9:30.

90’s cover band Ice Cold Zima will be rockin’ the night away at Brian Boru. Travel back to a time of JNCO jeans, bucket hats, and bowl cuts with some cover tunes of No Doubt, Fiona Apple, The Cardigans, 4 Non Blondes, Green Day, Lauryn Hill, Bonnie Raitt, Stone Temple Pilots, Alanis Morissette, and more as things get jumpin’ right around 10.
RiRa is geared up for an eventful Friday featuring dance-pop cover act Tickle. Things get shaking at 10pm with a super party mix of some of the best music from today as well as some classic retro funk that’s guaranteed to get you out on the dance floor.

Wheelhouse is the crossroads of piano player Max Eddington and drummer Joe Perullo with folk singer-poet Evan James. Joined by Asher Barreras on bass, the group and its music represent the reunion of genres that were once much less distinct than they are today: jazz, folksong, blues, murder-ballad, spirituals, and hymnals. Tonight’s performance at Blue begins at 10 o’clock.


Local alt-country rockers, The Mallett Brothers Band are geared up for a show up at Moose Alley in Rangeley this Friday. Boot stompin’, whiskey drinkin’, and guitar slingin’ gets underway right around 9:30.


Mainely Brews welcomes The Calypso Soldiers for a night filled with modern and classic rock, funk, country, and blues. Starting at 9 they’ll be covering a wide variety of artists and styles as well as performing some of their own original material during this free and fun show.


Guitarist Denny Breau will be playing a set of songs over at Lenny’s at Hawkes Plaza this finally Friday. Breau’s parents, Hal Lone Pine and Betty Cody, were Maine-based country stars in the 1940s and 50s. Check out his performance of acoustic-based tunes as this free and all-ages event gets underway at 7pm.

Holly “The Nunz” Nunan is a musician from Portland, Maine with an unabashed love for the city as well as its thriving Maine music scene. This is her scene report.

Aside from here on this blog, she can be found around town taking in local shows, performing with any variety of musical acts (basically anyone who will give her a microphone and a tambourine), and talking up local music on WCSH 6 on Friday mornings around 6:20am. She is also the Promotions Director for WFNK, WTHT and WHXR in Portland as well as an On Air Personality at 107.5 Frank FM.
