Yes! It’s your Finally Friday Edition of Newz by The Nunz! It’s a magical thing, and after such a wild and crazy week, I’m sure I speak for all of us when I say bring on the freakin’ weekend, baby! So much to see and do tonight including HoneyPot at Mixers, Ron Bergeron at the Silver Street Tavern, OC and the Offbeats at Slab, Okbari at Blue, A Band Beyond Description at Portland Lobster Company, Kilcollins at The Brunswick, Scolded Dogs at Easy Street Lounge, Seth Gooby at Elements, Sammy Kershaw & Rowdy Yates at the Bangor Waterfront and more, so let’s dive right in.
Maine musician Tom Gurney returns to bring the fun times and tunes to the Fire House Grill in Auburn this Thursday evening. Join Gurney as he gets the good times rollin’ right around 7:30pm during this free, all-ages show.
Sammy Kershaw, who rose to commercial success in the ‘90s, will be bringing his blend of honky tonk and Southern rock to the Bangor Waterfront tonight. California-based country and Americana artist Rowdy Yates will also be performing during this all-ages affair as things get underway at 5pm.
If you find yourself Fridaying up in the Central Maine area get on over to The Nocturnem Draft Haus in Bangor as they present another fine evening of jazz tunes and musical merriment with local act The Bill Barnes Trio. This free 21+ shindig gets swingin’ at 8 o’clock.
Catch some classic and modern rock covers from the Jim Brown Band as the band kicks off their two-night stint at the Penobscot Pour House right around 8 o’clock.
Local artist Scott Lank will be playing at Champions this evening. Starting at 6:30pm stop by to enjoy this free show featuring Lank’s performances of familiar classic rock and country from the 60s and 70s, as well a little bit of bluegrass, ballads and uptempo rockers.
Elements welcomes singer-songwriter Seth Gooby for a free performance filled with blues, soul and folk sounds. This evening’s all ages event gets underway right around 8 o’clock.
The Boothbay Opera House presents The Piano Men: The Music of Billy Joel & Elton John tonight. This is THE show for fans of the great contemporary piano men, Elton John and Billy Joel with a 9-piece group fronted by Mainer Joe Boucher. These guys are great and bring these classic songs to life with a ton of talent so be sure to check it out if you’re in the area as the music starts up at 7:30pm.
If you’re up in the Boothbay Harbor area this evening, prepare to shake your can all around as the disco/funk powerhouse known as Motor Booty Affair will be shaking things up at Mine Oyster. The band will be funning things up starting at 9pm.
Toby McAllister of local pop-rock act Sparks The Rescue will be going solo and acoustic tonight for a fun show up at The Rack at Sugarloaf Join Toby for this free show as things get underway right around 7pm.
Hanging in Hallowell? Then check out the dead ahead, high-energy, 4-piece, dance-your-butt-off rock and roll band The Worthy Bones as they return to the Kennebec Wharf tonight for a free show that gets jumpin’ right around 9.
The Scolded Dogs are back to make some noise at the Easy Street Lounge tonight as they bring some more party-rockin’ tunes to the stage for another free show. Starting at 9:30 you can expect to hear some awesome originals as well as covers of such acts as Johnny Cash, Parliament, Snoop Dogg and more.
Guthries welcomes Blaise Lantana to the stage to perform her own original compositions as well as some beloved jazz standards during a free, all-ages show that’ll get underway right around 8pm.
OLD ORCHARD BEACH
Maybe you’re getting your long weekend started early this afternoon, if that’s the case, I am very, very jealous and I also recommend that you kick things into gear with some free music out on The Brunswick patio in Old Orchard Beach with the fellas of Kilcollins. These guys will be playing some pop-rock originals as well as some cover jams starting up at 1pm during this free afternoon show.
The Brunswick in Old Orchard is geared up for another fun Friday night featuring dance-pop cover act Tickle. Things get shaking at 8:30 with a super party mix of some of the best music from today as well as some classic retro funk that’s guaranteed to get you out on the dance floor.
If you’re rockin’ it in Old Orchard Beach for the holiday weekend the make some plans to get out to the Pier Patio Pub for the Souled Out Show Band. Starting at 9 this fun band will be filling your evening with tons of danceable funk, rock and soul covers.
Take in some roots rock tunes this finally Friday as local musician Travis James Humphrey returns to the Dogfish Bar & Grille for a free Happy Hour set that’ll start up right around 5 o’clock.
Portland House of Music and Events offers up some Happy Hour music for finally Friday as the talented musicians of the Sweet Maxwell Sullivan Trio take over the patio starting at 5 with some stellar instrumental jams.
Third Eye Blind, the California-based pop-rock band who rose to fame in the late ‘90s early aughts, will be bringing their sing-a-long songs to the stage of the Maine State Pier in Portland tonight. This all ages show starts at 6:30pm with opening sets from special guests Town Meeting and Tancred.
Tonight Portland based 10-piece indie pop act Monarck Lisa will be bringing some fun sounds to First Friday with a free and family-friendly performance in Congress Square Park. Tonight’s concert will begin right around 6 o’clock so be sure to check it out if you’re Art Walking this evening.
Bluegrass duo Darlin’ Corey is back at Blue tonight. Beginning at 6, you can stop by and check out the pair’s delightful blend of vocal harmonies, fiddle, banjo, mandolin, and guitars that are used to make up some truly unique bluegrass, old timey and folk sounds.
If you’re looking for some fun tunes to take in outdoors this finally Friday then make some plans to head out to The Porthole as blues, rock, soul, and R&B band, Slygo Road will be cranking out an eclectic mix of originals and classic covers during a free show starting at 7pm.
Mellow your mind with some stellar jams out on the Portland Lobster Company deck during another fun night with the one and only A Band Beyond Description. Far more than just your typical Grateful Dead cover band, these fellas jam out on everything from Phish, the Allman Brothers, The Band and more. Anticipate good times, good tunes and good people starting right around 7.
If you’re downtown this evening doing the First Friday thing, be sure to take in tonight’s performance by Okbari Middle Eastern Ensemble at Blue on Congress Street. Starting at 8 the act will be performing music from the Middle East and Turkey on such unique and beautiful instruments as oud (fretless Middle Eastern lute), qanun (72-stringed Middle Eastern micro-tonal zither), nay (ancient Middle Eastern reed flute), and Middle Eastern percussion.
Portland piano man Mike Maurice will be back at MJ’s Wine Bar tonight for a free show featuring some funk, soul and jazz sounds. Enjoy some tunes and a glass of vino as this evening’s performance gets underway at 8pm.
Local rock band OC and the Offbeats bring their brand of blues and soul back to the Slab patio in tonight. Join this energetic act for a night of awesome tunes as things start up right at 8.
Starting at 8:30 you can treat yourself to some tasty eats and equally tasty tunes at Salvage BBQ as Pete Witham & The Cozmik Zombies take over the joint with their own brand of twisted Americana/rockabilly.

It’s First Friday in Portland which means it’s time to bust a move down at Flask Lounge during DJ Jamie O’Sullivan’s monthly LOVE dance party. Unity College Center for the Performing Arts welcomes Brattleboro, VT act Low Lily this evening. The band is well known for putting a little pop twist on traditional folk and Americana sounds. See them perform live as things get underway during this all-ages show right around 7pm.
Narrows Tavern in Waldoboro welcomes local folk-rocker Brian Patricks. Patricks intertwines finger-style, rhythmic guitar with a hint of harmonica into his sets of originals and covers that span the folk, blues, roots and rock genres. Check out Patricks’ solo set as this free show begins at 9.
If you’re spending your Friday in Waterville, check out singer-songwriter Ron Bergeron as he plays a free show up at Silver Street Tavern. Ron will be getting things kicked into gear right around 8 with tons great covers from The Beatles, Stones, Queen, Elvis, The Boss, Tom Petty, Paul Simon and more.
The Groove Kings are back at the Frog and Turtle in downtown Westbrook tonight to bring some soul, funk and rhythm & blues to your finally Friday. Join the fellas for some free, all-ages fun as the music starts up at 8:30pm.
