Check out Three for 3 at Empire with The Ghosts of Johnson City, Starcrossed Losers & RSO

It’s time to tackle another Tuesday, y’all! There’s a ton of cool stuff happening, so hike up your Party Pants and get ready to throw down this evening at such shows as The Body, Muslin, Lingua Ignota & ‘Cuse Me at SPACE Gallery, The Mark Tipton Trio at Blue, Travis James Humphrey at Gritty’s, an open mic with Uke n’ Smile at Sea Dog Brewing Company and more!

The Mark Tipton Trio, which features Mark Tipton on trumpet, Don Pride on guitar, and Tyler Heydolph on bass, will be performing jazz standards and original compositions during a show at Blue tonight. This evening’s performance gets underway at 6pm.

Andy’s Old Port Pub welcomes local folk-rocker Brian Patricks. Patricks intertwines finger-style, rhythmic guitar with a hint of harmonica into his sets of originals and covers that span the folk, blues, roots and rock genres. Check out Patricks’ solo set as this free show begins at 7.

Big World, a band from Portland which focuses on taking compositions from jazz and other musical genres to explore the musical form through improvisation. Tonight they’re at Blue performing both original compositions and covers starting at 8 o’clock.

It has been said by more than a few listeners that metal band, The Body is the most brutal band on the planet. With ravishing grimness and impenetrable walls of noise, the duo creates music that goes beyond what is normally considered harsh and violent for anyone brave enough to take the plunge. Tonight they’ll be joined by the pitch-black spectral sounds of Muslin, the spine-tingling and soul-crushing noise-ballads of Lingua Ignota, and the shape-shifting doom of ‘Cuse Me for an 18+ show that starts at 8pm at SPACE Gallery.

Portland’s premiere string act the Amarantos Quartet plays a special show this evening at The Bearded Lady’s Jewel Box. Classically trained, each member of the quartet has also performed extensively with musicians from a wide variety of styles such as rock, pop, folk, world, and more. This group of supremely talented string players will begin playing right around 8pm tonight.

Empire’s Three for 3 music series continues tonight with the haunting sounds of love and loss from the American South courtesy of the Ghosts of Johnson City, as well as the stripped-down acoustic balladry to old-school rock n’ roll, gritty gypsy-blues and distorted proto-punk of Starcrossed Losers, and the punk and jazz-tinged rock and roll sounds of one-man-band RSO. Things get swinging upstairs right around 9 o’clock.

Another Open DJ Night is happening at Flask Lounge.  Starting at 9, you can sign up for a slot DJing on some open tables and all you need to bring are some records, CDs, and a pair of headphones! This event is absolutely free and always a good time, so go on and check it out.

Check out a free show at Gritty’s tonight as roots rocker Travis James Humphrey plays a set starting up at 9.

Acoustic act Uke n’ Smile returns to the Sea Dog Brewing Company in South Portland tonight for another open mic. All artists of different skills and genres are welcome as this free, creative gathering gets underway at 8.
