Holy mothahuggin’ Hot Pockets, this has felt like the longest week in the history of The Nunz (so long in fact that I’ve reverted to talking to about myself in the 3rd person…). I have had Friday on my mind since Sunday evening so I am overwhelmingly glad to welcome another weekend. Here’s what’s happening around town and beyond for your finally Friday including such shows as Jordan Coffey, Livid Orange, The Doug Quaids & Front Seat Dream at Central Gallery, Quad at Elements, Skyfoot at The Rack, Hambone at Easy Street Lounge, Unearth, Exalt, Darkness Divided, Bottomfed & Ruin at Port City Music Hall, KGFREEZE, Burr, $300 & Bruvs at Geno’s, Le Vent du Nord at The Strand, Whiskey Sour at The Kerrymen Pub and so very much more!
The Veggies will be rocking the Fire House Grill in Auburn tonight with a free, fun show chock full of danceable cover tunes spanning tons of genres and decades as the music starts up right around 8:30.
Join Launchpad and Central Gallery as they come together for a night of music and art to benefit The Trevor Project, a nonprofit organization focused on suicide prevention efforts among lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender and questioning and other queer youth. Beginning at 7pm you can take in tunes from acoustic emo artist, Jordan Coffey, garage rockers, Livid Orange, post-punk band, The Doug Quaids, and the experimental pop-rock outfit Front Seat Dream. Several local artists will also be on hand with their creations during this all-ages gathering.
Tonight at Gracie Theatre in Bangor you can check out What’s Going On: The Marvin Gaye Experience. This performance invites audiences to celebrate the hits of the legendary Marvin Gaye as soulful singer Brian Owens performs selections that span Gaye’s music-making career. This evening’s all ages performance starts up at 7:30pm.
Jake Irish brings some blues tunes to the stage of the Hollywood Casino for a free show tonight that’ll get swinging right around 8 o’clock.
More in the way of good tunes and good people will be happening at 58 Main in Bangor as the venue invites one and all to celebrate the start of the weekend with adventurous folk artist Heather Maloney as she plays in this unique and intimate venue beginning at 8 o’clock.
Portland funk/rock duo, Quad, a pair consisting of drums and cello, returns to Elements this Friday. Join the pair for an evening loaded with original material plus some selected covers and maybe even a special guest too as this show begins at 8pm.
The Blast Addicts will be helping you kick off the freakin’ weekend with a free show at Ramona’s tonight. Starting at 9 join these cool cats for a non-stop rock and roll dance party that’s guaranteed to get you moving out on the dance floor!
Northern Charm brings a melting pot of musical sounds to Skip’s Lounge tonight as they play some rock, country, R&B, soul, and funk covers starting up at 9pm during this free and fun show.
Starting at 9 check out some funkadelic sounds courtesy of Skyfoot as they bring the rock and funk jams to Sugarloaf tonight for a finally Friday night show up at The Rack.
Burlington jam band Revibe returns to Maine for a show at Chummies. Revibe combines a wide range of musical influences and genres including jam, funk, psychedelic rock and electronica to create tight grooves that are bound to keep you moving. Tonight’s shindig gets shaking right around 9.
Welcome the freakin’ weekend with local jam band Hambone as they bring some musical merriment to Easy Street Lounge tonight. Starting at 9, swing through and check out Hambone’s soulful, energetic jams during this free and fun show.
Steve Jones & The All Night Rascals to bring some dub-style reggae-rock to The Kennebec Wharf tonight. Get down to some seriously raging tunes as this free 21+ party gets crankin’ right around 9pm.
American Ride will be busting out a bunch of modern country covers for you to boogie down to this evening as they play a free show at Train’s Tavern starting at 8.
Local musicians Tommy O’Connell and Eric Green join forces as The OG’s tonight as they bring some blues tunes to the stage of Guthries for a free and all ages show that’ll start up at 8 o’clock.
Acoustic trio Fog Ave will be bringing the good times and good tunes to Funky Bow Brewery in Lyman this evening. Starting at 5 o’clock this troupe of talented fellas will be playing some unplugged covers of such artists as Paul Simon, U2, The Beatles, Pink Floyd, The Who, The Monkees and many, many more.
Take in some finally Friday soul, R&B and blues tunes from The Youngerbloods as the local act plays a free show at The Crooked Hook Tavern in Mechanic Falls beginning at 8 o’clock.
OLD ORCHARD BEACH
Dance it out down at The Brunswick in Old Orchard Beach as dance/pop cover act Tickle gets ready to bring the house down with some of the best of today’s music mixed in with a little bit of retro funk. The party starts at 8:30 tonight.
A free and fun Friday show happens over at the Dogfish Bar & Grille this evening as roots rocker Travis James Humphrey returns for an all ages Happy Hour set that’ll start up right around 5 o’clock.
High energy folk duo comprised of fiddler and shruti box player Johanna Davis and guitarist and percussionist Adam Nordell will be bringing some fun sounds to the stage of Blue tonight as Sassafrass Stomp. The pair’s performance will start up at 6pm.
Check out some acoustic blues and roots tunes courtesy of local duo Beam & Fink as they perform a free, all ages show at Andy’s Old Port Pub on Commercial Street starting at 7 this Friday.
Check out local musician Ron Bergeron as he plays another free show at the Old Port Tavern tonight. Ron will be getting things kicked into gear right around 7 o’clock with tons great covers from The Beatles, The Rolling Stones, Bruce Springstree, Tom Petty, Queen, Paul Simon and many more.
Mark Tipton & Les Sorciers Perdus will perform the entirety of their new album, “Alchemist’s Dream,” at Mayo Street Arts this evening. Join in the celebration and hear the act’s new original jazz compositions as this all-ages show starts up at 7:30pm.
The time has come once again for you to muster up your mightiest hairnados, lock up those horns, and prepare to bring the thunder as Port City Music Hall hosts an all-ages heavy metal catastrophe as Unearth is joined by Exalt, Darkness Divided, Bottomfed and Portland’s own Ruin. This show is guaranteed to rattle some skulls starting at 7:30pm
Blue welcomes the band Dirty Bird to the stage tonight. Soulful, harmonious and ever-evolving, Dirty Bird offers a unique sound that redefines what it means to be a folk band. See them live as their set starts at 8 o’clock.
An awesome night of alt-rock, pop-rock and psychedelic-rock will be taking over Bayside Bowl in Portland this finally Friday. Beginning at 9 you can swing through and check out some seriously awesome sets of sounds from Leverett, Midwestern Medicine and Million Dollar Lounge. Again, lots of terrific original tunes happening during a free and all-ages show over at Bayside so make some plans to hit this one up!
Tonight The Patio presents a full evening of locally sourced sounds upstairs at the Empire. Starting at 9 you can check out the blues rock of Jon King and his band alongside the acoustic rock, hip-hop, and folk sounds of Hours North, some gypsy-surf and melodic rock
courtesy of Wyld Lyfe, and the soul-infused funk-rock sounds of Andrew Bailie.
Boston’s Wobblesauce will be bringing the party to Portland House of Music and Events tonight. Wobblesauce is known for their complex, textured effects and driving rhythm section that can make any crowd freak out and get down! They combine keyboard riffs and synth soundscapes with live bass and drums to create a one-of-a-kind concert that draws on many influences from the electronic music scene. NYC sci-fi, Middle Eastern, progressive, psychedelic jam band (try saying that ten times fast) Consider The Source will get things cranking as they take the stage for some truly unique tunes beginning at 9 o’clock.
There’s going to be one helluva party at Geno’s tonight with three awesome rock n’ roll bands joining forces for some freakin’ weekend thunder. Starting at 9, check out electrifying sets from KGFREEZE, Burr, $300 and Bruvs. Swing through, enjoy some tunes, and rock it out tonight.
RiRa plays host once again tonight to Ireland’s own Crooked Jacks tonight. The band blends their own unique individual talents as musicians and singers into a group that is bound to be one of Ireland’s next big folk acts. Be sure to check them out as they hit the stage right around 10pm tonight.
The Last Sip, which is an outfit comprised of local musicians Aleric Vincent Nez, Aaron Cloutier, and Brian Arlet, draw their musical inspiration from the tales of monsters, ghouls and zombies that roam the streets of your dreams. Their musical influences range from rock, reggae, lounge, jazz and everything in between. You can see them live tonight as they take the stage of Blue at 10pm.
Andi Fawcett and the fellas of Doubting Gravity will be bringing you some original pop rock as they play a free show up at Moose Alley tonight. Starting at 8:30 fill your finally Friday with some good times and good tunes at this free, 21+ dance party!
Check out an evening of original Maine made music tonight at Rock City Coffee in Rockland as they welcome the ambient electro-beats from Quantum beginning at 7.
Quebec’s Le Vent du Nord turns the energy of a Friday night kitchen party into an eventful evening of music up at The Strand Theatre as they bring their driving, progressive folk tunes to the stage this evening. Check out this energetic act as they get things going right around 7:30 tonight.
Time travel back to the 70’s and 80’s tonight as Triple Threat brings some fun classic rock covers to the stage of Mixers tonight. Get down to stuff by AC/DC, Poison, Alice Cooper, ZZ Top, Golden Earring and more as this free show gets crankin’ at 8:30pm.
Modern country and rockabilly cover act the Whiskey Sour Band will get you boot-scootin’ out on the dance floor of The Kerrymen Pub tonight as they play a free show starting up at 7:30pm.
Mainely Brews welcomes The Calypso Soldiers for a night filled with modern and classic rock, funk, country, and blues. Starting at 9 they’ll be covering a wide variety of artists and styles as well as performing some of their own original material during this free and fun show.
Get ready to have your face melted off and your ears blown out by Fistbump the Reverend, No Hugs, Civil Disturbance, Project 246, and Arta’sin tonight as things get really loud and really awesome during this free rock show over at Live at 212. Music starts at 6.
Maine-based act Memphis Lightning bring their brand of old school, entertaining, energetic, down and dirty blues to Lenny’s at Hawkes Plaza tonight. Join these fellas for some fun as this free and all-ages shindig gets swinging at 7pm.
Singer, songwriter and musician Luke Patchen Montgomery of Patchen & Roberts, Strangefolk and Dirigo returns for another intimate performance at The Frog & Turtle with a few of his friends. Tonight’s free show will start up at 8:30.
Aside from here on this blog, she can be found around town taking in local shows, performing with any variety of musical acts (basically anyone who will give her a microphone and a tambourine), and talking up local music on WCSH 6 on Friday mornings around 6:20am.
