Yeah, yeah, I know, I know. I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again, I have never, ever been happier to see Friday’s arrival. This week felt like a kick to the head and I’m ready to let my freak flag fly and take in some live tunes over the next couple of days. Let’s start with tonight as this Friday is gearing up to be one helluva party. Check out shows such as Borderlines, KGFREEZE & Rigor Samsa at Banded Horn Brewing Company, Motor Booty Affair at Mine Oyster, Double Entendre at the Stress Free Moose, The Shizzle at Easy Street Lounge, Eric Bettencourt at Portland Lobster Company, Stolen Mojo at The Brunswick, Pardon Me, Doug at Oxbow, The Far East & Royal Hammer at Portland House of Music and Events, Hello Newman at Oasis, Best Not Broken & The Threads at Empire, Rippleton Cross at The Kerrymen Pub, and so much more.


Flamboyant, gravelly-voiced rock and pop singer, Rod Stewart brings his tour to Bangor tonight for a show at Darling’s Waterfront Pavilion. The former Faces front man is one of the biggest stars of the 70’s and 80’s and tonight he’ll be joined by another 80’s sensation, Cyndi Lauper for a night of fun that’ll get underway right around 7pm.

Get your boot scootin’ on with country act the Kayla Wass Trio as they return to the stage of the Hollywood Casino in Bangor tonight for a free show that’ll get kickin’ right around 8 o’clock.


Cowbell Burger Bar in Biddeford welcomes Sarah Libby, a local, soulful, and gifted interpreter of songs that cover many musical genres this finally Friday. Sarah will be taking familiar tunes that we all know and love and making them her own as this free event begins at 7.

Prepare yourself for a rock and roll party for the ages tonight as high-energy local acts Borderlines, KGFREEZE and Rigor Samsa come together at Banded Horn Brewing Company in Biddeford. Rocking, rolling, brews and guaranteed good times will get underway at 8 o’clock during this free show.

Organ-based trio Micromasse will be back at Elements tonight for some Friday night fun. This free and all-ages show will feature the melodic and mesmerizing sounds of musicians Chris Sweet, Max Cantlin and Pete Dugas as the three combine guitar, drums and organ to create some superior instrumental jams starting right around 8 o’clock.


If you’re in Boothbay Harbor this evening make some plans to stop by Mine Oyster as local artist Jeff Kilton will be taking to the stage for a show featuring the songs of such artists as Jack Johnson, Dave Matthews, The Grateful Dead, Pearl Jam, The Band, Led Zep, Bob Marley and more. Tonight’s free show begins at 6:30pm.

Prepare to shake your can all around the dance floor of Mine Oyster tonight as disco/funk powerhouse Motor Booty Affair returns to the stage.Things get shaking around 9:30 during this free show.


The Kevin Midgley Players are back at Gritty’s in Freeport tonight. These local musicians will be performing some Americana and Delta blues tunes as this free show starts up at 8 o’clock.


The Stress Free Moose in Greenville welcomes back acoustic Americana act Double Entendre this evening. This talented duo will start making some sweet sounds starting right around 7pm.


Central Maine hip-hop act, The Shizzle brings their hip-hop dance party to Easy Street Lounge tonight. Things get started around 9 at this free, fun show that’ll feature jams from such notable acts as Vanilla Ice, The Roots, Dr. Dre, Jay Z, Snoop Dogg, Biz Markie and more.

Check out another free and fun show at The Kennebec Wharf as The Boneheads return to the inside stage. This local act will liven up your Friday night with fun Americana and roots sounds starting at 9 o’clock.

The Work Trucks will be making some noise outside at The Kennebec Wharf tonight. With a blend of rockabilly, country, old-time rock and roll, Americana, and roots rock, the act is guaranteed to please as they get the party started right around 9.


Join local musician Chad Porter for some fun times and tunes as he gets your weekend started up with a free show at Pedro O’Hara’s. Expect to hear some great covers of Ray Lamontagne, Ceelo Green, Blake Shelton and more, as well as some of Porter’s catchy originals as he begins playing right around 8.

Tonight The Honeycreepers bring their eclectic storytelling sounds ranging from folk to funk to the stage of Guthries. This free and all-ages show starts at 8pm.

Local jam band The Brewins will be having some fun at Funky Bow Brewery in Lyman this evening.  Join the band and enjoy some local brews as this free show starts up at 5pm.


Toby & Nate of Sparks The Rescue will be playing all of your favorite pop-rock tunes at Bray’s Brew Pub in Naples tonight. Join these fun and talented fellas as this free show starts at 6 o’clock.


Local cover band Country Roads will be bringing the boot-scootin’ boogie back to The Bull and Brew in OOB tonight as they play tunes from such acts as Florida Georgia Line, George Strait, Jason Aldrean, Kenny Chesney, Brooks & Dunn and much, much more during a fun Friday night show that’ll get fired up at 9.

Radio Revival is back at The Pier Patio Pub tonight with tons of tunes for you to returns to groove to including covers of Queen, Billy Squier, Bowie, Tom Petty, Talking Heads, Led Zeppelin, The Strokes, Thin Lizzy, Weezer and more. This free show gets rockin’ and rollin’ at 9pm.

Cover act Stolen Mojo will be playing some pop, rock, Motown, R&B, funk, disco and country jams from the last five decades during a free show at The Brunswick. Join in on the dance party as things get grooving right around 8:30.


Fat Knuckle Freddy is back at Blue this evening. Freddy is a local composer, instrumentalist and a songwriter who plays and writes American Primitive Music on cigar box, resonator, Weissenborn, acoustic, and fretless guitars. Check out this fun night of of music as things get started up right around 6 o’clock.

Over at The Porthole you can check out local act Northern Groove as they gear up to play out on the deck this Friday evening. This band promises a little bit of something for everyone as they span genres such as blues, classic rock, contemporary, country, R&B and more. The party starts at 7 o’clock.

It’s been a minute since we’ve seen the talented Eric Bettencourt singing his ass off and picking some guitar strings like it ain’t nobody’s business. Well good news, friends, Betts in back in town this week and ready to have some fun out on the Portland Lobster Company deck with y’all. Don’t miss your chance to see Eric in full force during a free and all-ages performance that’ll start up right around 7.

Local musician Ron Bergeron will be playing another free show at the Old Port Tavern tonight. Ron will be getting things kicked into gear right around 7 o’clock with tons great covers from The Beatles, Stones, Queen, Elvis, The Boss, Tom Petty, Paul Simon and many more.

Local singer-songwriters Dan KnudsenJuniper Ginger, Faith Francis and Molly Ladd will be coming together at The Cathedral of Saint Luke on State Street for a special acoustic performance. This all ages event begins at 7pm.

Phish cover act Pardon Me, Doug is ready to bring some musical merriment back to Oxbow tonight as they play two sets of their renditions of Phish classics starting up at 8pm.

Desertion Trio, the newest project from Philadelphia-based guitarist and composer Nick Millevoi, will be exploring the sonic space between Neil Young’s expansive work with Crazy Horse, late 60’s free jazz, and the New York downtown scene on stage at Blue tonight. Desertion Trio also features Johnny DeBlase of Sabbath Assembly and Zevious on bass and Kevin Shea, best known for his work with jazz assassins Mostly Other People Do The Killing and Talibam!, on drums. Things get underway at 8pm.

Local musician Rexy Dinosaur returns with saxophone in claws to the Dogfish Bar & Grille tonight. Rexy will be joined by a couple pals on guitar and percussion the trio brings you a mix of blues, hip hop and jazz beginning at 8 o’clock.

Check out a fun night of funk jams as funk and soul rock n’ roller Andrew Bailie is joined by a few friends for a free show out on the Slab patio as part of their Summer Concert Series. Enjoy some delicious pizza and take in some equally tasty tunes as things start up during this all-ages show right around 8 o’clock.

Local fellas Sylvain’s Acadian Aces are back at Salvage BBQ on Congress Street this finally Friday. Beginning at 8:30 these talented gents will be serving up some authentic Cajun tunes for you to dance around to.

Jam-band rock n’ rollers Big Head Todd & The Monsters will be bringing the party to the stage of Aura tonight for an 18+ show that starts at 9.

Welcome the weekend with some reggae as Brooklyn based act The Far East teams up with local favorites Royal Hammer for a night of guaranteed fun over at Portland House of Music and Events. Good vibes abound as things begin at 9 o’clock.

Lots of energetic, awesome, and heavy-hitting indie rock and roll will be taking Bayside Bowl by storm tonight as local bands Cape Cannons and Wait team up with MA trio usLights for a free show that’s guaranteed to make you move. This shindig gets shaking at 9pm.

The fellas in Hello Newman will be pumping out the jams tonight as they host a party out on the patio of Oasis in the Old Port. Starting at 9, you can check out the band as they rock all of your favorite 90s tunes all night long!

New England based alt-pop band Best Not Broken will be at Empire tonight. Having performed with contemporary, chart-topping artists like Jason Derulo and Matt Nathanson as well as legendary classic rockers like Pat Benatar and Jefferson Starship, the band has proven it can charm audiences of many types. Tonight they’re joined by Illinois rockers The Threads for a show that’ll get swinging upstairs right around 9:30.

Portland’s own Celtic punk-rockers, The Pubcrawlers will be bringing the party to Brian Boru tonight. This lively crew will help you blast off into the weekend with a free show that’ll get swinging upstairs at 9:30pm.

Treat yourself to some sultry salsa tunes  with a bit of a punk edge over at Blue tonight as salsacore act El Malo hits the stage starting at 10.

Local pop-rock cover act The Nikki Hunt Band will be bringing the party back to RiRa tonight. Covering artists such as Sheryl Crow, Joan Jett, Bruce Springsteen, Sublime, No Doubt, The Doors, U2 and many more there’s guaranteed to be something for everyone. Tonight’s performance will also include a colorful hula hoop act so be sure to check it out starting at 10pm.


Sharon Hood & Dixon Road
will be heating things up at Moose Alley tonight with some old school country, modern country and classic rock tunes. Tonight’s free show starts up around 8:30.

Local folk-rock cover act Rippleton Cross will be at the Kerrymen Pub this evening. Beginning at 6 the duo will be performing acoustic renditions of songs by such artists as Joe Jackson, Simon & Garfunkel, The Who, Cat Stevens and many, many more. Welcome the weekend with a bang out at The Landing at Pine Point in Scarborough as local party act The Time Pilots bring a you a night of non-stop dancing. If you’re looking to get down to some great tunes be sure to make plans to be a part of this party, which gets underway right around 8:30.

Portland’s own twisted rockabilly band, Pete Witham & The Cozmik Zombies will be rockin’ the Frog and Turtle in Westbrook this evening. Join these fellas for some high-energy fun as this free and all-ages shindig gets fired up at 8:30pm this evening.


Lots of great Americana and folk tunes for you to check out tonight as SugarbushThe Oshima Brothers and William Joseph Jiodan come together for some musical revelry at Sheepscot General in Whitefield. This finally Friday shindig gets shakin’ at 6 o’clock.

Holly “The Nunz” Nunan is a musician from Portland, Maine with an unabashed love for the city as well as its thriving Maine music scene. This is her scene report.

Aside from here on this blog, she can be found around town taking in local shows, performing with any variety of musical acts (basically anyone who will give her a microphone and a tambourine), and talking up local music on WCSH 6 on Friday mornings around 6:20am. She is also the Promotions Director for WFNK, WTHT and WHXR in Portland as well as an On Air Personality at 107.5 Frank FM.
