Check out some fun pop-rock tunes courtesy of local act The Grumps as they play a free show at Gritty’s Auburn location tonight. These talented fellas will get the good times rollin’ right around 8.


If you find yourself Fridaying up in the Central Maine area get on over to The Nocturnem Draft Haus in Bangor as they present another fine evening of jazz tunes and musical merriment with local act The Bill Barnes Trio. This free shindig gets swinging at 8pm.

Jake Irish brings some blues tunes to the stage of the Hollywood Casino for a free show tonight that’ll get started right around 8 o’clock.

If you’re in Central Maine and looking to have some serious fun then don’t miss the party happening at the Penobscot Pour House with local rock and roll act Overdrive as things get underway at 9.


Champions welcomes Sarah Libby, a local, soulful, and gifted interpreter of songs that cover many musical genres back to their stage this finally Friday. Sarah will be taking familiar tunes that we all know and love and making them her own as this free event begins at 6:30.

If you’re in Biddeford this evening check out a free, fun, and all-ages show happening over at Elements as Top Brahmen perform a set of funk, jazz, and hard bop beginning at 8pm. 


Bluegrass pioneer Del McCoury and his band will be bringing you an evening of high-energy, unforgettable bluegrass music during a show at the Stone Mountains Art Center. This all ages event gets underway at 8.


The Daniel Coast Bar + Bistro in Brunswick welcomes back Maine musician Peter Carriveau for an evening full of terrific tunes. Peter has numerous influences from folk to Americana to rock. During this free, all-ages show that starts up at 6, you’re likely to hear songs by artists such as Neil Young, Bruce Springsteen, Gram Parsons, Steve Goodman, Van Morrison, The Beatles, Steve Earl, Ray Lamontagne, and many more, so be sure to stop by if you’re in the area this evening.


Skip’s Lounge is the place to be for a full night of funky reggae, ska and good old rock and roll with El Grande. El Grande will be bringing their funky grooves full of upbeat horns and danceable reggae and ska to the stage this evening as the free party gets started right around 9 tonight.


The Kevin Midgley Players are back at Gritty’s in Freeport tonight. These local musicians will be performing some Americana and Delta blues tunes as this free show starts up at 8 o’clock.


Folk-rock cover act Rippleton Cross will be performing an acoustic set at Cole Farms in Gray this evening. This free, all-ages show will feature the pair performing renditions of songs by such artists as The Who, Joe Jackson, Simon & Garfunkel, Cat Stevens and many more as things get started right around 7pm.


Hanging in Hallowell? Then check out the dead ahead, high-energy, 4-piece, dance-your-butt-off rock and roll band The Worthy Bones as they return to the Kennebec Wharf tonight for a free show that gets jumpin’ right around 9.

The Scolded Dogs are back to make some noise at the Easy Street Lounge tonight as they bring some more party-rockin’ tunes to the stage for another free show. Starting at 9:30 you can expect to hear some awesome originals as well as covers of such acts as Johnny Cash, Parliament, Snoop Dogg and more.


Train’s Tavern in Lebanon welcomes back classic and southern rock and roll band Rosie to the stage for a free show that’ll get cranking at 8pm.


Check out some sweet soul, R&B and blues sounds courtesy of The Youngerbloods and Andrew Bailie as these local players team up for a Cinco de Mayo party at Pedro O’ Hara’s tonight. This free and all-ages shindig will get shakin’ at 8.


Local band JD Gilbert & The Night Train will be bringing some toe-tappin’ country tunes to The Brunswick this finally Friday. This free party gets rockin’ and rollin’ right around 8:30pm.


Roots rocker Travis James Humphrey returns to the Dogfish Bar & Grille tonight for another free solo set that’ll start up right around 5 o’clock.

A sure sign that summer is right around the corner is the opening of Portland Lobster Company on Commercial Street in downtown Portland. This terrific restaurant and venue has reopened for the season and tonight they welcome Ryan Halliburton and The Still to their outdoor deck to bring some pop-rock goodness to the masses during a free and all-ages shindig that’ll get swinging at 6pm.

Vermont folk-rocker Kali Stoddard-Imari will be playing a free, all-ages show at Andy’s Old Port Pub tonight. Stop by for some good times and good tunes as tonight’s show gets underway at 7.

Miss Maybell & Slimpickin’s bring some old time music of the Americana, jug band, ragtime, blues, jazz and country genres to Blue tonight. Transport yourself back in time as things get swinging right around 8.

Tonight local act Johnny Cremains brings their intense live performance which mixes slow heavy, riffs with piano, sharp vocals, and dark imagery for a sort of lounge-act-from-hell feel (in a good way of course) to the stage of Bayside Bowl alongside one of Portland’s finest hard rock attractions, Eldemur Krimm, who’ll inevitably cause some hairnados to occur with their ultra-groovy, jam-like riffs, tight harmonies, and vintage, stoner-rock sound. This all ages and free show starts up at 8. 

California-based roots collective The Dustbowl Revival will be blowing through Portland tonight with a show over at Port City Music Hall. The act merges old school bluegrass, gospel, jug-band, swamp blues and the hot swing of the 1930’s to form a spicy roots cocktail. Check out tonight’s performance as things get underway at 8 o’clock with an opening set by Americana, country, pop, and bluegrass act, Von Grey.

Tonight’s show at One Longfellow Square should be a special and interesting one as the venue presents an intimate evening with local acts, Paranoid Social Club, Yes We Kin, and Dominic Lavoie. A mainstay of the local rock scene, Paranoid Social Club, will be performing their 2004 record ‘Axis I’ in its entirety for the first time ever. Not to be missed by long time or casual fans, and sure to make many more of both, PSC’s performance at OLS will certainly be unlike any other. Rounding out tonight’s bill is the experimental folk collective, Yes We Kin, and the new solo selections of songs by psychedelic pop-rock veteran, Dominic Lavoie. This evening’s event will get underway at 8pm.

Portland’s own twisted rockabilly rock and rollers Pete Witham & The Cozmik Zombies are back at Salvage BBQ tonight. Check out this high-energy show as the fun fires up right around 8:30.

Tonight’s show at Geno’s will offer up a bit of everything as New York invades Portland with Brian Vigilone of The Dresden Dolls, NIN and Violent Femmes taking to the stage with his new band, Scarlet Sails. Also on the bill is punk and blues infused band, Radiator King, local indie rock lovelies, Prettysad, and NH’s Cactus Rose. Things get underway at 9 o’clock.

Aura presents the ultimate classic rock tribute featuring Vyntyge Skynyrd, The Peacheaters and Bruce Marshall & The Nor’easters tonight.  This classic rock concert experience will transport concertgoers back to the 1970s and 80s with classic anthems from Lynyrd Skynyrd, the Allman Brothers Band, and the Marshall Tucker Band. This exciting live rock and roll concert features three of the best tribute bands in New England recreating the sounds of some of America’s most iconic rock bands. Tonight’s performance begins at 9pm. 

Fridays are ALWAYS the best time to shake what your mama gave you so make sure you’ve made plans to do just that by getting down to Flask Lounge as DJ Jamie O’Sullivan hosts another of his monthly LOVE events. LOVE will feature O’Sullivan and some special guests DJs bringing you the best house, techno and disco to shake your can to. You can check out this free shindig starting right around 9.

A double-whammy of a celebration will be happening at Portland House of Music and Events tonight as Pardon Me, Doug throws a party on Cinco de Mayo in honor of their 100th show! These fellas will be ready to have a good time and mellow your mind with their renditions of Phish tunes starting up at 9pm.

Portland trio, Bread & Circus will be bringing some soul and blues classics to Blue tonight. Join these three talented musical merrymakers as things get underway at 10.

Tonight electro-pop rock act Dean Ford & The Keepsakes will be treating RiRa to a night of electrified pop, rock and dance tunes. Bust a move and have some fun as this free show starts up at 10.


Cover act Stolen Mojo will be playing some pop, rock, Motown, R&B, funk, disco and country jams from the last five decades during a Cinco de Mayo party at Mixers tonight. Join in on the dance party as this free show gets underway at 8:30pm.


Local rock and roller Riff Johnson will be bringing the party to the stage of Mainely Brews tonight for a free show that’ll get crankin’ right around 9:30.


Celebrate Cinco de Mayo at Fiesta de Rock happening at Live at 212 tonight! Local hard-hitting, heavy rock bands Arta’sinLoki, Second Sight, Dirty Rotten Winter, Primal Static, Revision and Trial By Stone will be bringing the thunder to your finally Friday with a free show that’ll get cranking right around 6pm.

The Groove Kings are back at The Frog and Turtle in downtown Westbrook tonight to bring some soul, funk and rhythm & blues to your finally Friday. Join the fellas for some free, all-ages fun as the music starts up at 8:30pm.

Holly “The Nunz” Nunan is a musician from Portland, Maine with an unabashed love for the city as well as its thriving Maine music scene. This is her scene report.

Aside from here on this blog, she can be found around town taking in local shows, performing with any variety of musical acts (basically anyone who will give her a microphone and a tambourine), and talking up local music on WCSH 6 on Friday mornings around 6:20am. She is also the Promotions Director for WFNK, WTHT and WHXR in Portland as well as an On Air Personality at 107.5 Frank FM.
