Ah yes, Thursday, the day of the week where you know you’ve almost completely made it. It’s a beautiful thing and I’ve found in my time of being able to go out and enjoy adult live music that Thursdays generally never disappoint. So throw all caution to the wind and get down on it this evening at such shows as Sully Erna at Gracie Theatre, Radio Thieves at Andy’s Old Port Pub, Ghosts of Jupiter & Formula 5 at Portland House of Music, Viva at Sonny’s, El Ten Eleven & Bayonne at Port City Music Hall and more.
Acoustic act Uke n’ Smile will be hosting another open mic event over at Local Buzz. All musicians of varying skills and genres are welcome to get up on the microphone and perform as things get underway right around 7:30pm.
Maine-based musician Sa Rah is back at the Easy Street Lounge for another Thursday evening of acoustic serenades. Grab some friends and get cozy as this free show starts up at 9 o’clock.
Augusta based band Radio Thieves will be bringing their mix of music from the 70’s right on through today to the stage of Andy’s Old Port Pub. Check out some fun cover tunes this Thursday as tonight’s free and all ages show starts at 7pm.
I’m hoping that I can drag my ace out tonight and check out the show taking place at One Longfellow Square because something tells me it’s one not to be missed, especially if you’re into old school rockabilly because tonight Big Sandy and His Fly-Rite Boys return to the stage for an evening of musical revelry. I’m telling ya it’s going to be a real hoot so check it out if you’re around town this evening as things get rollin’ promptly at 8 o’clock.
Local jazz artist Viva brings her vivacious vocals back to the lounge of Sonny’s in the Old Port this evening. Check out another free show filled with funk songs, jazz standards, soul tunes and Latin jams done in a fun and modern way by Viva and her talented band, The Reinforcements, as things get sizzling right around 8 o’clock.
Kilcollins brings their rock and roll party to RiRa tonight. Starting at 9 the boys will be playing covers of songs that everyone knows, loves, and can shake a tail feather to as well as some catchy original jams. There’s never ever a cover charge so get your freak on if you’re downtown tonight.
Psychedelic rock and roll act Ghosts of Jupiter return to Portland House of Music and Events tonight to celebrate the release of their latest record. Jam rock/fusion-funk band Formula 5 will open the night as music starts at 9.
Post-rock duo El Ten Eleven will be bringing some upbeat tunes to the stage of the stage of Port City Music Hall tonight. This 18+ show starts up at 9 with an opening set by experimental electro act Bayonne.
I must admit that I too went through my emo phase in high school and therefore tonight’s Tribute 2 event at Empire speaks to my inner teen as members of the local music community come together to perform the tunes of Brand New and Taking Back Sunday. For any of you who also wore studded belts, went to Warped Tour, smoked clove cigarettes, and maybe even pierced your lip, you’re well aware of the emotionally driven pop-punk that’s going to happen on stage starting at 9pm.
Aside from here on this blog, she can be found around town taking in local shows, performing with any variety of musical acts (basically anyone who will give her a microphone and a tambourine), and talking up local music on WCSH 6 on Friday mornings around 6:20am.
