We are heading into a looong holiday weekend and I am so very ready to do it to it, so hike up those Party Pants, shine up those dancing shoes, and get ready to break it on down this evening. Local acoustic folk-rock cover act Rippleton Cross will be at the Fire House Grill in Auburn this evening. Beginning at 8 the duo will be performing renditions of songs by such artists as Joe Jackson, Simon & Garfunkel, The Who, Cat Stevens and many, many more. This event is free and all-ages so make some plans to check it out if you’re in the area this Friday.

Singer Viva will be bringing her vivacious vocals to LAVA in Auburn tonight alongside her talented band, The Reinforcements, as they present an evening of jazz standards, funk, soul, and Latin tunes. This free and fun show starts up at 8:30pm.


Acoustic Americana act Double Entendre will be playing a set at The Gin Mill in Augusta this evening. This talented duo will start making some savory sounds starting right around 7:30pm.


Groove into the freakin’ weekend with the Cliff Randall Band as they take to the stage of the Hollywood Casino tonight for a show chock full of some of the best rock and blues tunes around. This free shindig gets shaking at 8.

Central Maine rock cover band Dakota will be bringing the thunder to the stage of the Penobscot Pour House tonight as they play songs from such acts as Bon Jovi, Shinedown, Bush, Aerosmith, Journey, Nickelback, Theory of a Deadman, and more beginning at 9pm.


Head out to Dirigo Brewing Company tonight as Captain Ray and the Castaways will keep you dancing all night long with some fun rock and roll cover tunes during a free party that’ll get started up at 7:30.

Shanna Underwood and Wanderlost will be bringing some Americana music to Elements this evening. Starting at 8, Underwood joins forces with Brian Durkin and Devon Colellafor some stellar musical sounds this finally Friday.


Tonight Portland’s high-energy, hip-hop and dance band, Sugarbox brings the party up to Boothbay Harbor for a free show at Mine Oyster. Get ready to GET DOWN as this 21+ shindig gets shakin’ at 9:30pm.


Local folk-rock musician Brian Patricks returns to The Daniel Coast Bar + Bistro this evening. Patricks intertwines finger-style, rhythmic guitar with a hint of harmonica into his sets of originals and covers that span the folk, blues, roots and rock genres. Check out this free all ages show as things begin at 7 o’clock.


The Blast Addicts will be helping you kick off the freakin’ weekend with a free show at Ramona’s in Bucksport tonight. Starting at 9:30 join these cool cats for a non-stop rock and roll dance party that’s guaranteed to get you moving out on the dance floor!


Check out local musician Ron Bergeron as he plays a free show at Cole Farms in Gray tonight. Ron will be getting things kicked into gear right around 7:30 with tons great covers from The Beatles, Stones, Queen, Elvis, The Boss, Tom Petty, Paul Simon and many more.


Analog Salad brings a mix of funk, rock, reggae, and various jams to the Kennebec Wharf tonight. This free show gets swinging at 9pm.


Local musicians Tommy O’Connell and Eric Green join forces as The OG’s tonight as they bring some blues tunes to the stage of Guthries for a free and all ages show that’ll start up at 8 o’clock.

Brooke Lachance, Jason Fogg, and Joey St. Pierre will be bringing their trio set to Pedro O’Hara’s in Lewiston tonight. Join them for food and spirits while they perform original music as well as covers that range from Heart, Radiohead, Nick Drake, Leonard Cohen and more. This event will also double as fundraiser for Elijah True, a huge supporter of the local music scene and arts, who is currently battling cancer. This all-ages show will begin at 8:30.


Maybe you’re one of those lucky souls that gets to start this long weekend early, if that happens to be the case why not kick your Friday into high gear with some free music at The Brunswick in Old Orchard Beach with the fellas of Kilcollins? These guys will be forming as trio this afternoon, right around 1 o’clock, to play some super fun pop-rock originals as well as some tried-and-true covers, so swing through this afternoon if you’re kicking it in OOB!

Dance it out down at The Brunswick later in the evening as dance/pop cover act Tickle gets ready to bring the house down with some of the best of today’s music mixed in with a little bit of retro funk. The party starts at 8:30 tonight.

Radio Revival returns to The OOB Pier tonight with tons of songs for you to groove to including covers of Queen, Billy Squier, Bowie, Tom Petty, Talking Heads, Led Zeppelin, The Strokes, Thin Lizzy, Weezer and more. This free show gets rockin’ and rollin’ at 9.


Take in some roots rock tunes this finally Friday as local musician Travis James Humphrey plays a free Happy Hour set over at The Dogfish Bar & Grille. Let the good times roll as things get swinging right around 5 o’clock.

Party out on the Maine State Pier tonight with The Disco Biscuits. The jam band has distinguished themselves from their peers by incorporating jazz and electronica elements into techno and trance. Get weird and have fun this finally Friday as the music begins at 6pm.

Acoustic duo Stealing North, which features Neal Jandreau and Tom Doucette, will be playing all kinds of fun covers at The Thirsty Pig tonight. Join these fellas from some music as things get underway at 6.

Spice things up tonight with a free, outdoor performance from Primo Cubano at Congress Square Park this evening. From 6 to 8 dance the early evening away to some of the best classic Cuban music around.

Blue welcomes back local act, The Ghosts of Johnson City for an evening of tunes devoted to love and loss, old mountain music, Civil War songs, coal-mining melodies, and haunting murder ballads from the American South. This must-see music event will begin at 6 o’clock.

Over at Portland Lobster Company you can join Vinyl Tap out on the deck as they play all kinds of classic jams during a free and all ages show. Vinyl Tap is known for making people bust a move to their wide array of danceable cover tunes that span between everything from everything The Beatles to Huey Lewis, Cee Lo Green, Stevie Wonder, The Dead and many, many more. There’s never a cover charge so check it out starting at 6:30 tonight.

Soulful indie electronic outfit, The xx will kick off the summer concert series at Thompson’s Point tonight with a show that’ll get started up at 7 with opener, Kelela.

High-energy bluegrass band Seagrass returns to Andy’s Old Port Pub on Commercial Street for some good times and good tunes. Get your finally Friday started with this talented act as the music starts at 7 o’clock.

Check out some tunes by Portland’s Brazilian choro ensemble, Choro Louco, as they play a show at Mayo Street Arts this evebning. Choro Louco features local musicians Carl Dimow, Nicole Rabata, Joel Eckhaus, Eric LaPerna, and David Newsmam. This evening’s performance begins at 7:30pm.

Over at The Dogfish Bar & Grille local act The Waiters will be serving up some quality tunes for you to enjoy this finally Friday. The Waiters will be playing all of your favorite cover tunes from a variety of different genres and decades beginning at 8 o’clock.

Somerville-based singer-songwriter and guitarist, Antje Duvekot will be performing at One Longfellow Square tonight. Dukevot holds three top songwriting awards including the Kerrville New Folk Competition’s Best New Folk Award, Boston Music Award for Outstanding Folk Act, and Grand Prize in the John Lennon Songwriting Contest. Rising, local singer-songwriter Lena Rich will get the night started with an opening set at 8pm.

Globe-trotting, Maine-bred drummer RJ Miller leads Jesus Cactus, an electronic, psych, and jazz-infused trio with Portland multi-instrumentalists Dave Noyes and Pat Corrigan, at SPACE Gallery tonight. They’ll be joined by the shapeshifting electro-acoustic collective Qi Hammer, which features members of Leaf Peeper, Mind Wheel, Big Blood, and Sore Eros, who’ll start the night at 8:30pm.

Salvage BBQ will be swinging tonight as The Juke Joint Devils kick out some old time, hard driving blues tunes. Tonight’s free, all-ages show gets jumping right around 8:30.

Indie pop duo, Forget, Forget, electro-rock act, Sea Level, and soul, funk, rock, Afrobeat, Latin, and hip-hop influenced band, Akela Moon will be joining forces for a fun Friday night at Bayside Bowl. Check out this free and all-ages show filled with some seriously great local songs starting at 8 o’clock.

Brooklyn-based jamtronica quartet, Space Bacon will be bringing some fun to the stage of Aura tonight. The act weaves composition and improvisation through an ever-changing landscape of segues, inversions, and palindromes to challenge conventions and pave the way in the modern era of improvisational music. Things get underway tonight at 9pm.

Tonight Empire presents Vapors Of Morphine, which features 2 of the 3 original members of the world famous Boston low-rock act, Morphine. Vapors of Morphine reignites and reimagines the music of Morphine with saxophone, 2-string slide bass and drums. This evening’s show will also feature sets by Will Bradford of SeepeopleS and indie rock duo Pretty Sad. Things get underway upstairs at 9.   

Country-rock act Dalton & The Sheriffs will be playing a free show at Brian Boru tonight. Get upstairs and get your boot-scootin’ on as things get crankin’ right around 9:30pm.

Get down on it with some of the best alt-rock tunes the 90s ever gave us with Hello Newman as they throw a party upstairs at Bull Feeney’s tonight to celebrate their eighth year together. Grab some pals, drink some drinks, and enjoy tunes from such bands as Sublime, Blink 182, the GinBlossoms, Everclear, No Doubt and even Chumbawumba (yes, I just said Chumbawumba) as the (free) party starts right around 9:30.

Cover act Stolen Mojo will be playing some pop, rock, Motown, R&B, funk, disco and country jams from the last five decades during a party at RiRa tonight. Join in on the dance party as this free show gets underway at 10pm.

Blue welcomes back jazz, funk and fusion act Sassquatch for some serious getting down on this finally Friday. Get into the groove as things get fun and funky during this free all ages show starting up at 10pm.


The Jameson Four will be rockin’ Moose Alley two nights in row this Memorial Day weekend starting tonight. This local act will be bringing you all kinds of fun covers spanning a few decades starting at 8:30pm.


Local cover act 95 North will be rocking and rolling at Mixers with some time-tested songs that everyone knows and loves. Check out this free show as things get swinging right around 8:30.


The Easy Money Band will be supplying the soundtrack to your finally Friday with some danceable covers of everything from rock, country, soul, blues and more. The band will be playing a free show at The Kerrymen Pub starting at 7 :30.


Burlington jam band Revibe returns to Maine for a show at Mainely Brews in Waterville. Revibe combines a wide range of musical influences and genres including jam, funk, psychedelic rock and electronica to create tight grooves that are bound to keep you moving. Tonight’s shindig gets shaking right around 9.


Maine-based act Memphis Lightning bring their brand of old school, entertaining, energetic, down and dirty blues to Lenny’s at Hawkes Plaza tonight. Join these fellas for some fun as this free and all-ages shindig gets swinging at 7pm.

Phil Divinsky and his Americana-tinged rhythm & blues band return to The Frog & Turtle in Westbrook tonight. You can enjoy some soulful sounds starting at 8:30 at this fabulous gastro pub located in downtown Westbrook.

Holly “The Nunz” Nunan is a musician from Portland, Maine with an unabashed love for the city as well as its thriving Maine music scene. This is her scene report.

Aside from here on this blog, she can be found around town taking in local shows, performing with any variety of musical acts (basically anyone who will give her a microphone and a tambourine), and talking up local music on WCSH 6 on Friday mornings around 6:20am. She is also the Promotions Director for WFNK, WTHT and WHXR in Portland as well as an On Air Personality at 107.5 Frank FM.
