Oh sweet burping babies – yup, I decided to bring that one back into the fold because I mean, COME ON – I am elated that it is Thursday. I’m not trying to be overly dramatic here, but I’m in dire need of the freakin’ weekend, so the fact that it’s really only hours away is magical to me. Local musician Lindsey Montana will be back to acoustically rock and/or roll at the Fire House Grille tonight. Join him for some good times and good tunes as this free shindig starts up at 7:30.


Local acoustic duo October Road will be performing a free all-ages show at The Daniel Coast Bar + Bistro this evening. Beginning at 6 stop on by and check out the pair’s set of Americana and folk rock tunes.


Local acoustic act Uke n’ Smile will host another Open Mic event at the Local Buzz this evening. Starting at 7 all reasonably capable musicians are more than welcome to play some tunes or you can come and sing with the fellas in Uke n’ Smile as they play the music for you. It’s free, fun and yummy drinks and food are available as well, so if you’re in the area tonight, be sure to stop by and check it out.


Blues and R&B act The Bob Colwell Trio will be performing a free show up at The Rack tonight. Things get grooving up on the mountain right around 5 o’clock.


King Eider’s Pub in Damariscotta welcomes local singer-songwriter Ron Bergeron. Ron will be serving up tons of tunes starting at 7 including covers of The Beatles, Stones, Queen, Elvis, The Boss, Tom Petty, Paul Simon and many, many more. So if you’re hanging in the area tonight make some plans to swing through and have some fun.


Sa Rah’s Serenades continue over at the Easy Street Lounge this Thursday evening. Grab yourself a seat, a delicious cocktail, and get ready to enjoy some lovely acoustic tunes courtesy of this local songstress as this free show starts up at 9.


Royal Hammer will be raging some reggae for your Thirsty Thursday up at the Widowmaker Lounge at Sugarloaf to help kick off this weekend’s Reggae Fest activities. Starting at 9 the Hammer will be throwing down and making some summery sounds during tonight’s free rager.


Local duo Small Things Possible will be bringing their eclectic blend of acoustic covers and originals to Rails in Lewiston this evening. Join in on the free fun as this show starts up at 5.


Happy Hour with Hassan continues at Portland House of Music this evening where beginning at 5 you can check out a free set of jazz and funk tunes as Hassan enthralls one and all with his immense talents on the keys. This is a guaranteed fun way to start off your evening so be sure to check it out.

The Matchsellers, a bluegrass duo that began in the streets of former East Germany and now crisscrosses the US year-round, bring their toe-tapping tunes to Blue this Thursday evening. Join them for some fine bluegrass music as things get underway at 6pm.

Andy’s Old Port Pub will be getting a solid dose of the rock and/or roll tonight as they welcome I Suppose You Know Karate and Cheer Wine to the stage for a full night of music. Things get crankin’ at this free all-ages show right around 7 o’clock.

Let loose tonight with some sexy Latin Fusion sounds created by local act Viva & The Reinforcements as they bring their spicy set of songs to Sonny’s. Check out this evening’s tropical grooves during a free show in the hippest lounge around as the fun and music starts right around 8.

The Portland Jazz Orchestra will be back on the stage of One Longfellow Square tonight. This 18-piece jazz ensemble performs a variety of traditional and contemporary big band literature. The PJO plays works written by members such as Craig Skeffington, Willie Johnson, Chris Humphrey and Terry White in addition to literature composed by a variety of jazz artists including Tom Kubis, Matt Harris, Bob Mintzer, Bill Holman and Maria Schneider. You can check them out as things begin right around 8pm.

Check out the melodic folk sounds of Hannah Daman and Friends as they bring some fun to The Dogfish Bar & Grille tonight. Lots of good times, tunes, and vibes to take in as things get started up right around 8.  tonight as they grace the stage of Empire for a night of music.

Contemporary bluegrass act Cumberland Crossing returns to Blue this Thursday evening for another night full of bustling bluegrass. Tonight’s free show will get kicking at 8pm with an all out bluegrass jam directly following the band’s set that’s open to any and all musicians who wanna join in. Swing through and have some fun if you’re kicking around downtown tonight.

Singer-songwriter Ryan Montbleau returns to the stage of Port City Music Hall tonight for a performance featuring his blend of rock, funk, soul, folk and psychedelia that come together to create a sonic kaleidoscope guaranteed to thrill and enthrall all those in attendance. Singer-songwriter Barns Courtney will get the evening started with an opening set beginning at 9pm.

Local crowd favorites Kilcollins will be pop-rockin’ and rollin’ at RiRa in the Old Port this Thursday evening. This troupe of talented dudes will be serving up some serious good times with their own original songs as well as anthemic cover tunes starting right around 9 at tonight’s free show.

Portland House of Music and Events will be bringing you a genuinely eclectic night of music this Thursday as NYC sci-fi, Middle Eastern, progressive, psychedelic jam band (try saying that ten times fast) Consider The Source takes the stage for some truly unique tunes beginning at 9 o’clock.

Steve Jones & The All Night Rascals will be serving up some aggressive dub-style reggae-rock upstairs at Brian Boru in the Old Port tonight. Get down to some seriously raging tunes as this free 21+ party gets crankin’ right around 9:30pm.

Holly “The Nunz” Nunan is a musician from Portland, Maine with an unabashed love for the city as well as its thriving Maine music scene. This is her scene report.

Aside from here on this blog, she can be found around town taking in local shows, performing with any variety of musical acts (basically anyone who will give her a microphone and a tambourine), and talking up local music on WCSH 6 on Friday mornings around 6:20am. She is also the Promotions Director for WFNK, WTHT and WHXR in Portland as well as an On Air Personality at 107.5 Frank FM.
