Yaaarrr! I’m so excited about the return of Thursday that I’ve apparently turned into a swashbuckling, seafaring pirate?? Why am I like this? Please leave that one unanswered, thank you. Anyway, without fail tonight is bringing us a surplus of awesome events to check out so get out there and get your Thursday on, babies! Check out some sweet sounds at such sweet shows as Papa Tim and The Desperate Man’s Blues Explosion at the Robinhood Free Meetinghouse, Double Entendre at Flight Deck Brewing, Glass Animals at Thompson’s Point, The Ge3ks at The Pier Patio Pub, Primo Cubano at Slab, Phil Vassar with Jay Bragg at Aura, Ryan Halliburton and The Still at Amigos, The Awesome in Memorial Park, Pete Witham at Easy Day, and more!


Maine Street R&B Revue will be performing in Pickering Square this evening as part of the Cool Sounds Summer Concert Series. This powerhouse R&B act will be bringing that party to this all-ages and free event beginning at 6 o’clock.


Flight Deck Brewing in Brunswick welcomes local acoustic Americana act Double Entendre this Thursday evening. This talented duo will be making some noise and having some fun during this free and all-ages show starting at 6pm.


Acoustic act Uke n’ Smile will be hosting another open mic event over at Local Buzz. All musicians of varying skills and genres are welcome to get up on the microphone and perform as things get underway right around 7:30pm.


King Eider’s Pub in Damariscotta welcomes back local musician Ron Bergeron. Ron will be serving up tons of tunes starting at 7 including covers of The Beatles, Stones, Queen, Elvis, The Boss, Tom Petty, Paul Simon and many, many more. If you’re hanging in the area tonight make some plans to swing through and have some fun at this free show.


If you’re in Georgetown and looking for some funk, blues and soul for your funk, blues and soul holes then make plans to scoot on down to the Robinhood Free Meetinghouse to check out Papa Tim and The Desperate Man’s Blues Explosion. The band will be bringing it beginning at 7pm tonight.


Pianist and vocalist Josh Hatfield will be performing at Sea40 tonight. Beginning at 7 Hatfield will be playing classics from Billy Joel to the Zac Brown Band and many more; there is sure to be something that everyone will enjoy during this free all-ages shindig.


Legendary folk artist Arlo Guthrie will be performing at Jonathan’s in Ogunquit. The son of Woody Guthrie, Arlo is a treasured contributor to the Americana genre with his captivating storytelling, including his famous Thanksgiving anthem, Alice’s Restaurant. Tonight’s performance gets underway at 8 o’clock.


Toby McAllister of local pop-rock band Sparks The Rescue will be performing a solo, acoustic set at The Pier Patio Pub this afternoon. Beginning at 4pm Toby will be performing some of his own originals as well as some covers of popular tunes from the past 20 plus years.

Party band The GE3ks are bringing some of the best 80’s pop, dance, New Wave, hard rock, rap and one hit wonder tunes back to The Pier Patio Pub tonight. Shake your groove thing out on the dance floor as this free show gets swinging at 9.


Maybe you’re on vacation, or have the ability to leave work early, or even take yourself out to a late lunch, if any of these things are in the cards for your today then make your way over to the Slab patio where local rock band OC and the Offbeats bring their brand of blues-infused, soulful rock and/or roll to the outdoor stage this afternoon. Join this energetic and talented bunch for some awesome tunes as things start up right around 3pm during this free and fun show.

Take in some tunes out on the Portland Lobster Company deck as local rock and roll act, The Joint Chiefs bring some fun to your Thursday evening. Starting at 6:30 these fellas will get the good times rollin’ with a set of high-energy and big fun cover songs during this free and all-ages event.

Local four-piece rock n’ roll band, Riot Act will go quiet tonight for an acoustic set at The Porthole. Tonight’s free show gets started out on the deck right around 6 o’clock.

Andy’s Old Port Pub welcomes local singer-songwriter Dustin LeVasseur this evening. Check out some of Dustin’s original compositions as well as a few cover tunes as this free, all-ages show starts at 7pm.

Portland’s professional Klezmer band, The Casco Bay Tummlers, return to the stage of Blue this evening for a performance filled with traditional Eastern European Jewish compositions. Tonight’s show gets started right at 7pm.

Oxford, England-based band Glass Animals will be bringing their intriguing mix of synth pop, indie, and hip-hop influences to the stage of Thompson’s Point tonight. This all-ages show starts up at 7.

Spice things up tonight with a free, outdoor performance from Primo Cubano as Slab’s Summer Music Series continues. Starting at 7 dance the evening away to some of the best classic Cuban music around.

Three talented singer-songwriters from Portland will be teaming up once again for another evening of songs and stories over at Blue. Starting at 9 check out another In The Round Event featuring Max Garcia Conover, Griffin Sherry and Max Davis as they come together on stage to share their own original roots, Americana, and folk compositions.

Ben Kilcollins & The Vargas Twins will be hanging out at RiRa for some sweet, acoustic action. You know Ben from his time spent pop-rockin’ with his band Kilcollins, but this evening he teams up with the talented Vargas Twins for some fun cover tunes and originals starting right around 9 o’clock.

Check out a free show with Ryan Halliburton and The Still out on the Amigos patio tonight. This awesome local act will be bringing some fun pop-rock tunes to your Thursday as things get underway at 9pm.

Aura welcomes Phil Vassar with special guest Jay Bragg to the stage tonight. Contemporary country singer Phil Vassar made his name as a chart-topping songwriter before landing a record deal and becoming a hit making artist in his own right. Things start at 9 with an opening set by Nashville-by-way-of-Portland country artist Jay Bragg.

Local cover act The Depths will be bringing the party to the Oasis patio this evening. The band will be playing all kinds of songs from all kinds of genres during this free show, which starts up at 9.

Are You Kidding Me? Tapes presents Girls To The Front, a show dedicated to shining a light on the women in Maine and New Hampshire that are kicking ass, taking names, and shredding away within the local music scene. Tonight’s show is $3 to get in, but donations are also very much welcome as they’ll be donated to Planned Parenthood. Don’t miss some stellar rock n’ roll created by some bad ass ladies in the bands Wedding Camp, Ossalot and The Worst. Punk rock, garage rock, fuzzed out, scuzzy rock — all of your RnR needs will be met as these women bring the thunder to the stage of Geno’s starting at 9 o’clock tonight.

Pete Witham returns to Easy Day in South Portland for some fun Americana and rockabilly music this Thursday. Pete will be joined by a rotating cast of characters as they bring the good times and good tunes to the stage for this free show, which will start at 6pm.

Bust out your brightest neon accessories, dust off your legwarmers and get ready to party like it’s 1985 as The Awesome performs all of your favorite 80’s jams live in Memorial Park in Scarborough this evening. You’ll definitely bust a move as this cover acts plays songs from Hall and Oates, T’pau, Wang Chung, Michael Jackson, Cyndi Lauper, Duran Duran, INXS, Mr. Mister, Nu Shooz, Peter Gabriel, Madonna, Human League, Wham, Tears for Fears, Whitney Houston and more. Holly “The Nunz” Nunan is a musician from Portland, Maine with an unabashed love for the city as well as its thriving Maine music scene. This is her scene report.

Aside from here on this blog, she can be found around town taking in local shows, performing with any variety of musical acts (basically anyone who will give her a microphone and a tambourine), and talking up local music on WCSH 6 on Friday mornings around 6:20am.
